U don't have to restrict EVERYTHING. Ive lost 65 lbs so far eating clean ab 90% of the time, and eating unhealthy sweets that go off my diet as a treat ab 10% of the time while also counting my calories and staying active. Completely shutting foods that make you happy off will mentally drain u and can likely lead to an ED

I agree! My diets have been a lot better since I've been allowing more "treats" in. I try to fit them in more with my macros but before I would break and end up binge eating it. Rather now I am more content with a serving and less cravings. I'm also in the best shape I've been in my life.
@daisy-we5ox2 жыл бұрын
this is honestly the best advice I've heard online and I'm so happy that people are encouraging this. i developed a restrictive mindset too when i was starting to eat comparitively healthy. but overtime i rewired my brain into accepting that most of these foods that i crave actually make me feel sick after. so my cravings went down (took A LOT of time and patience and trust in myself) and i don't even feel the need to restrict anymore. i don't crave chocolate as much as i used to and if i do, i just have a few pieces and I'm DONE , my brain doesn't let me eat more. now don't get me wrong i can still chug down a cake if i want to because i love them (especially the ones that my mom makes) but i stop after having a considerable amount cause my brain is wired to avoid that uncomfortable feeling of overeating which is way stronger than my urge of eating more. p.s. - you got yourself a new subscriber :)

This is actually very valid for people who don’t have a problem with food. In my country, Saturday is “candy day” and growing up I used to buy a bunch of candy, and then devoured it all till I got sick. Now that I’m older, I eat it casually and therefore don’t have a problem with it.

Hard to believe, but this 100% some of the best advice when it comes to maintaining your diet. Ever since I started my diet, I was extremely strict about it and wouldn’t allow myself to ‘cheat’ in any way. This caused my cravings for snacks/sweets to skyrocket and made it extremely difficult to refrain from eating the entire package of whatever it is that I initially had a small portion of. Prior to this, I didn’t have an extremely restrictive diet, and instead I just generally tried to eat healthy while allowing myself to ‘cheat’ on occasion. During this time, I didn’t even have to try to refrain from eating anything outside my diet. It was so much easier and I regret being so strict. People need to understand that it’s perfectly fine to have a snack/treat that you enjoy every now and then. Don’t binge eat it, just take a portion and enjoy. This way you won’t be hindering your progress.

With a lot of things it's about portion control, and changing things up a little so you can get your "fix" without as many unhealthy ingredients. That means dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, and less sugar than your standard Snickers bar. I like Ghirardelli 72% dark chocolate. I break one of those squares in half, which is about 2 bites. I hold each bite in my mouth and let it melt .. savoring the flavor, rather than gobbling it down as one does with Snickers bars lol. Two bites savored is, for me, just about as satisfying as one gobbled Snickers bar.

Tip: Try 4 or 8 pieces of chocolate and have a bowl of grapes(or any fruit) to eat along with the chocolate and tell me how it goes. (For better results finish it with a bite of fruit so your mouth finishes with natural sugar (fructose) instead of the processed, more addictive, sugar)

For me, personally, there are phases in my life where I am more susceptible to guilty pleasures such as chocolate. The nice thing about chocolate, though, is that there are so many varieties of it and one thing I have noticed is that while I could easily eat a whole bar of milk chocolate, I would find it hard to do the same with a bar of dark chocolate. With dark chocolate, particularly Lindt’s 90%, I find that one, two, or three squares is more than sufficient. In general, however, I would say that if you are just starting a diet or a new way of eating, it may help you stick to your plan if you don’t have your weaknesses near at hand. I’m not saying eliminate them completely, but wait until you’ve established some good eating habits and then treat yourself every once in a while if you think you can handle it responsibly.

I actually often have certain cravings but now when i get a few bites of the thing I'm craving I'm done. Dont even know what changed but it just did and it works for me. Also breaking it of and putting the rest back before you start eating could be helpful because its less tempting to eat the whole thing. This is something people need to hear. Having snacks in your diet is fine. If your goal is to cut the only thing that matters is calories in calories out. No need to ban snacks from your diet
