Kinda disappointed that in this timeline, Davis didn't die in office because of the infamous Curse of Tippecanoe (any US President elected on a year divisible by 20 dies in office, starting with William Henry Harrison, then Abraham Lincoln in our timeline, then James Garfield, then William McKinley, then Warren Harding, then FDR, and finally JFK, before Reagan broke the curse by surviving the attempt on his life).

@crusader2112 this I can partially answer in 2.5 ways, some how some way new England is pro slavery and cedes. This might lead to an early support from Britain but when the US declares slavery illegal they loose support and the union wins. The .5 way is if they aren't pro slave and instead pro freedom, they secure support from the UK and eventually develop their own identity away from the US and might eventually merge with Canada. Final way is they win with the help of the csa leading to a VERY weak america, majority of the gunpowder that the North used was from New England and with almost guaranteed support from Britain. The CSA might fight Mexico in a 2nd war and invade Cuba too but they would be reclaimed by the Union, this south would be far less developed compared to the North in this time, arguably less so than the West coast, the American British relationship would collapse and when the war comes the Americans side with Britain. The Americans might secure better relations with Japan and those w would join WW1 on the German side. Britain would loose its biggest trading partner and colonies in the America's while also loosing a large chunk of their Asian ones. A conditional peace deal where germany is slightly cut down to size while Japan and the US acquire the pacific, American and southeast and East Asian colonies. The Japanese would kick the Europeans out of China and have an earlier hold in Manchuria too

8:33 John Brown’s actions were already noted by the United States Military. Brown was already a known criminal by the garrisons stationed in Kansas, including the garrison commanded by Colonel Robert E. Lee. It would be unlikely that Davis would mobilize the national guard in such a situation as Kansas was a territory and - therefore - did not have a national guard of its own. Rather, Brown’s actions would have been notified to the United States Military and they would have moved into the territory to establish order; very little would have changed regardless of who was the President.
@MatthewChenault7 ай бұрын
15:05 This also fails to understand Jefferson Davis’s (and the south, as a whole) beliefs regarding the matter. Their belief was that it was *the states* that determined whether the institution would be legal or not; not the federal body. The matter was a domestic issue; a right of the states to determine of their own volition rather than a matter the federal government’s dictation. Such a proposal would run directly against Davis’s worldview. Davis would not act on the issue, but emphatically state that the matter was a matter of the states to determine. There’s nothing he could really compromise on regarding the matter.

@ADMusic1999 Listen, be anti-confederate all you want but find a better name then Traitors, it doesn't just make you look like an American Nationalist whose judgement is clouded by American Exceptionalism but also a hypocrit, are you forgetting the United States was founded by traitors? We all are traitors whether Confederate or not because we broke off from Britain. Yes the winning side of the War Between the States did infact end slavery which I heavily agree with the Union doing. But the fact is the actions the Union took during the war are unjustifiable not to mention the Union really only cared for the preservation of the Union (You can find countless speeches from Abraham Lincoln saying so) the truth to history is the Confederacy was not fighting for slavery, although I will not doubt that some leaders and soldiers in the CSA were. These horrible people like Alexander Stephen's (Who was deeply hated by alot of the Confederate Government including President Davis) wanted the CSA to take on a racist idealogy as said in his horrid cornerstone speech, Davis was not a fan of this as he wanted the Confederacy to be a republic like the United States. Davis didn't wish to end slavery nor continue it but rather let it slowly fade into history which he would've ensured had the CS of won (Not to mention if Robert E. Lee became a President of the CSA as he was a staunch emancipationist.) At the end of the day, you are right. We are all Americans but we have a right to love the old south just as much as the new, the difference is knowing the rights and wrongs of both the CSA and the south.

@@virginiansupremacy irish slaves is unlikely even in the not realistic at all idea that no colonialism in africa means no african slaves. the vast, vast majority of slaves in the atlantic slave trade were bought from african traders not taken by european attacks. there is simply not enough irish nor an established irish slave trade system. the likely alternatives to africa is the Caucasian and black sea slave trades. that was already large and well established. a handful of irish might end up being bought from the barbery slave trade. but they would be a minority even in those markets. the other alternative is the south east asian slave trades, south africa imported slaves from there rather than the much closer africa due to the costs ending up being lower (fewer deaths in transit from diseases for example), if africa is not an option for what ever reason than this might become attractive to even the americas
@matthiuskoenig33787 ай бұрын
@@virginiansupremacy better borders is debatable. even assuming no external colonisation there is still going to be the game of empires within the continent, especially since the main drive for colonialism (the need to establish stable states for resource extraction) would still exist. if for whatever reason this doesn't result in direct colonisation the various interest groups would simply sponsor local entities to create the necessary conditions. the lower infrastructure is also going to be region dependant, in someplace the local entities will have sufficient power at the beginning that the infrastructure investment to gain access to resources is going to go on same as normal. while other places the wars to stabilize the area for resources, or the refusal of local entities to cooperate could make it FAR less infrastructure. the biggest change is going to be population. unlike colonialism which was justified to the public on grounds of welfare (in adition to other reasons) and thus a great effort was made to educate the locals, and provide modern farming and medicine. this is going to be a much less well funded venture in a world where its entirely private investment. while they'll get the tech eventually it will be delayed. this combined with more wars as the tribal conflicts last longer, means significantly lower populations, it would likely stay at the level it had stagnated at before the OTL colonisation for much longer, delaying or slowing down the affects by just 30 years means a reduction in the modern african population by around 50%.

@DeanMonsieur7 ай бұрын
Well it was likely that slavery would have slowly been phased out in the United States without war had it not been for the invention of the cotton gin. Some historians claim that if the cotton gin wasn’t developed and produced when it had been, slavery would have become unprofitable and would be abolished slowly and over a longer period of time. This concept of slavery becoming illegal as it becomes unprofitable is what compelled the British and other European powers to end slavery (as well as the moral arguments-though history teaches us that economic motives are often more powerful than moral ones).
