What is the stickiest yoga mat? I get asked this question often as a yoga teacher. In this video I will tell you the differences between the manduka pro black mat and the lululemon reversible mat. Both have their pros and cons but overall I love both of these mats! There are many types of yoga mats ranging from a grippy yoga mat, a sticky yoga mat, a thick yoga mat, the best vinyasa yoga mat or the best hot yoga mat, Manduka? Lululemon?

Packaging: It came in a sturdy rectangular cardboard box that said Yoga on it. kzbin.infoUgkxZkaD2JsPC-fUMkF3vxJ2echoiXZ3T9aM I didn't like how it let possible package thieves know what might be contained inside but great packaging otherwise. The yoga mat came rolled up in a plastic wrap, which was fairly easy to remove.Contents: I got the green yoga mat and it came with an adjustable velcro carrying strap already secured to the mat. There was also a warranty card. There was a bit of a plastic smell coming form the yoga mat but it quickly dissipated after using it once.I've only used the yoga mat twice so far but I am loving it. It's such a game changer to my work outs, especially compared to my bed and floor, haha! I can confirm that it very thick, slip resistant, and comfortable. i didn't look at the dimensions prior to buying the mat, but it is so much longer than I expected! Width is normal size in my opinion. I don't know if it really is tear resistant yet... only time will tell!

I finally got a Manduka Pro a few months ago and I was slipping on it at first as well. Initially I did the salt treatment suggested in the instructions that came with the mat. There are also a few video's here on youtube. I sprinkled sea salt on the mat and left for 24 hours. That didn't really help at all. After a couple of weeks I was becoming a little irritated and I decided to treat it again. The second time around, I bought 2 big containers of sea salt and ground the salt into a fine powder with my spice/coffee grinder. I took my mat out into the summer heat; the heat index was close to 90 and I'm sure it was hotter then that on my driveway. I wet my mat down with a lot of water and totally covered it with the salt powder. After the water evaporated the top of my mat was totally white. I left it there for about 6 hours. I then took a scrub brush and brushed the top vigorously for awhile. I then sprayed the salt off with my garden hose and cleaned the mat with a 50/50 water and vinegar mix with a few drops of essential oil. That absolutely did the trick. I stick to my mat now like a tree frog or in this case a Manduka frog. :) I find though that I need to clean the mat frequently with the water/vinegar cleaner to keep it sticky. But as long as I do that, it's absolutely awesome. I love my mat.

Folks saying yall pay the manufacturer to do this: it's a tool. I use tools for my trade and I have to care for them. I don't know of a single thing that requires absolutely no maintenance. This mat he's talking about: you sweat on it, or at least I do, sweat on it hard. If this is all I have to do to keep it solid, sounds good to me.

Great video! I'm a Manduka guy myself. I just love the feel of the mat. When I sweat, I use a towel (feel not as good, but. . . ). Lululemon is a good mat. The lifetime warranty on the Manduka will never be used because the mat will always look the same. I've seen several Lulu mats that have been worn down pretty far after a couple years of casual (1-2 classes a week) practitioner use. You'll have to buy a new one every couple of years if you practice daily. Lulu is stickier than Manduka. I like the lululemon mat and it's always good to see a student come to my class with one for sure. I know they have experience and are very interested in yoga. Thanks for this informative video!

I've had a large Manduka Black Mat since 2003 but I cut it up yesterday for my cat to use in the various spots she likes to nap as she loves it so much! I am a heavy sweater and even though these mats do last a lifetime and it didn't show any wear after all those years, I didn't like to practice on it since I bought my Lululemon The Mat. The Mat is like flypaper and I stick to it no matter what, whereas the Manduka always meant schlepping around either a Yogitoes or a rug on top of the mats own heavy weight. I've had The Mat for nearly two years now and I love it to bits and will definitely buy another one, when this one isn't as grippy anymore. I am now contemplating buying a large Lululemon for home practice and leave my normal sized mat at the studio. If you are a sweater get a Lulu!

If you live in the tropics (or humid area), DO NOT USE THE SALT method as recommended by Manduka. I did it, left it outside overnight and got a layer of sticky salty watery mess the next day on the mat. Found out that salt is hygroscopic! Contacted Manduka and they suggested to wipe it off with a damp cloth, it did not work. Against their advice, I hosed it down with water. It cleared the "salt water" and mat became sticky. Didn't last long though, my hands are sliding again while in down-dog. Bummer.

Hi Lisa! Yes in my opinion I would say these could be multipurpose however they are expensive yoga mats and if you use with shoes they might not last as long. Hope this helps!

I just bought a Manduka Pro. I love the feel, but it is slippery even if I don’t sweat that much. I’ve heard it takes a while to break in. I ordered a Manduka towel to prevent slipping.

I live in the Philippines and its always hot here. I dont like working out on an air conditioned room so would you recommend Manduka over Lululemon? How do you clean your lululemon?

Janna if you sweat a lot I would recommend Lululemon. If not too bad then Manduka. I would wipe it down with a wet cloth and gentle soap or essential oils.

@@ShimaFlowYoga We had that colour in our living room for awhile. It (looks) like the same theme colour from the store Restoration Hardware. You could buy their paint (the sales clerk said that it was a "proprietary colour", LOL. If there was such a thing, I would take a copyright out on the colour black, and make hipsters give me all their money. I took a sample to a paint shop (who also laughed a the idea of a proprietary colour) and took it as a challenge to make as perfect a match as possible. I hope this helps.

KidScipio no I would not say that Manduka is that slippery. It is my favorite when practicing warm yoga and is fantastic with a little sweat. It does not work well for me during a very hot and sweaty practice.

Hi! In my opinion, if you sweat a lot (dripping) then choose Lululemon. You will slip on a Manduka. A Lululemon should last 2-3 years and will fade a bit where your hands and feet land but that will happen on most yoga mats. I would suggest a darker color to minimize the look of that. Hi. I took my harbour manduka pro and i love it but i actually have a question: " Can i roll it up in other ways? I used to roll up my previous mat in a more "hygienic" way, as i prefer the surface not come in contact with the part that goes on the ground. I currently have a yoga mat that I got from my local health store (not sure of the brand) and I actually HATE how sticky it is. I like to use my mat for other exercises other than yoga and I find that it is so sticky for HIIT workouts or pilates that it hurts my feet and ankles. Because I don't really like the sticky finish, would you recommend the Manduka?

LOVE my Manduka pro mat!!! It definitely is the best mat out there. For me the cons are that it took me forever to break it in and you do slip when you start to sweat a lot, but not a big deal because I quickly put a towel. For towels I love Yogitoes but they are pricey and just found Anandamuni that fits great on the Manduka Pro and doesn't slip. It says it also fits on the Lulu.

My hands and feet get really sweaty. I slip like crazy on the Manduka. It feels slimy. I salted it but it didn't work. =(. I've tried 3 different kinds of Manduka. I'll check out the Lululemon though I feel like the smell is going to make me nuts. REI has one called Jade and it feels amazing but the smell is beyond overwhelming.

I have a lulu mat and I love it. It can get a little slippery in a 104 degree hot yoga class but it's not a huge issue, I am looking into buying a yoga mat towel. As far as the smell, it took a few months of almost everyday use to go away. Wipe your mat down and allow to air dry.

Andrea Rivette try the Manduka EKO! Word of caution, it will smell like rubber for a bit but I left it out & what little smell is left I actually don't mind. The EKO has crazy grip, almost too much and you can get great prices on Amazon or Nordstrom Rack.
