Could be a double reference. Bowser's moveset being used for a Taokaka homage. Then again, if it was a reference to Taokaka, why wouldn't they just parody Blazblue? The studio obviously had the rights to Arc System Works' properties due to them outright using footage from the games.

i just wanna point out that in the smash bros segment of the op, when aguri fsmashes keita she gets a tipper fsmash (tipper being something exclusive to marth confirming that this is indeed marth), which explains why keita went from 172% to 195% as a tipper hit will deal significantly more damage and knockback than just a regular hit god i just love the attention to detail

CookieGlob I thought it looked more like Roy's F-Smash. Marth only holds his sword with one hand in all of his animations (to display his skill with a sword). Aguri holds the sword with two hands, and her charge up is almost exact to Roy's charge. her end frames are nearly exact too. It's kinda weird, she hits a tipper, but Roy only has his close sweet spot. It's possible they did this just in case Nintendo tries to fuck with the OP. So yeah, sorry for being that guy.

I'm relatively convinced by the Dragonquest reference theory The Golem instantly reminded me of the Golems you see in DQ9, where we AFAIK also have analogues for the Samurai armour and Gi at some point. This might make this a more general DQ reference than a direct DQ3 one but it might still be the case.
@warman13x
@warman13x 7 жыл бұрын
Ceser That's kind of how I felt too. The golem looks pretty similar to Dragon Quest's depiction of golems, and if we take the series as a whole, their outfits all have some pretty close parallels. And considering the extreme popularity of DQ in Japan, it's definitely not too far fetched.

Game references aside, the big problem with this opening is that it has almost nothing to do with the content of the show. Or maybe the problem is that the show is called Gamers and barely has any games in it. Not going to lie, I felt a little cheated watching this opening, thinking this would have more game references, but turned out to be a stock romantic comedy.
@Ziirf

Andrew Quan It is too meta, you see, you misunderstood the misunderstanding of the entire thing. Therefore it was on point, clearly all the misunderstandings were clearly summed up in that opening.. Dont get me wrong i ranked this a 2/10, it was so great, they only used the misunderstanding troupe every... single... episode... much fun.

The fight at the end of the opening reminded me a lot of Tales of Phantasia because of Cress and Mint, even though the fighter looks like the Final Fantasy 3 monk, while the rest of references look like they've just been extracted from Dragon Quest. Great that you spotted the reference to Phantasia on episode 2, it was a great game that was obscured by the FF series.

@juuken8987
@juuken8987 7 жыл бұрын
If by "the UI is exactly the same" you mean it is completely different, then yes, it is. Chara designs are different too. Take it from someone who has played a lot of Japanese eroge, the UI used in the OP of「ゲーマーズ!」is original. It actually has greatest similarity to 「桜舞う乙女のロンド」in terms of: position and separation of the speaking character's name, location of the navigation settings below the text, and general floral design of the text box, while also being of a screen ratio of 16:9. Most modern (in the last 5 years) eroge UI follows current UI design trends, favouring regular geometric designs with flat, transparent, or gradient styles. The floral type design is proportionately more common in cross-dressing eroge, such as those by Ensemble and Navel, due to their inherent emphasis on femininity.

Thanks for the video! i'm looking forward to your next video on Gamers! Personally while i'm not well versed in fighting games similar to that last scene in the OP, i feel that it's not a reference to any game, and more of a reference to the character's growth in the show and the fun they have when they're all together. The fight with the monster can be seen as their group defeating the misunderstandings which keep arising in the show (and why Uehara gets knocked out instantly since he only contributes to the misunderstandings). If you also note, each game previously in the OP was seen from the perspective of a person playing the game, while this last one is not from any specific perspective.

I think they Golem scene is just a combination of general JRPG classes mashed up into one battle (Priest, Witch, Monk, Warrior). The last reference I believe is that it's just to reference MMORPG's in general. For example Tera, BDO, Guild Wars 2. You have the healer, dps= sorcerer, brawler, (maybe) samurai, knight, Tank = Samurai (maybe) knight (maybe). Standard party size of five too. Like Tera there is supposed to be 1 tank, 1 healer, 3 dps

I'm going to say the Smash character is Star Wolf. The battle against the golem reminded me a lot of the intro video from Final Fantasy 4's DS Remake, or possibly something from Tales of Symphonia, though none of them match up exactly. There are a lot of JRPGs that have that team faced off on a cliff against something shot, though, so it's probably just that.

I mean, I _thought_ it was referencing Dragon Quest 3 at the end, until I actually watched this video and finally noticed that Tasuku was also there. It even seemed to me to tie in neatly with the earlier DQ3 parody: not only did the party consist of Keita, Karen, Chiaki, and Aguri, but looking closer, all of them have MP except for Aguri; this is consistent with the idea of Keita being the hero, Karen being a priest/pilgrim/cleric, Chiaki being a mage/wizard, and Aguri being a martial artist/fighter. I viewed it as having a sort of continuity: the party was wiped out by Tasuku/Zoma, but were brought back to life by the Street Fighter continue screen, which was then represented by Karen's resurrection spell. But, as I say, Tasuku being there throws all this out the window because DQ3 doesn't have any classes that fight with spears. Goddammit, Tasuku, you just _had_ to make even the OP more complicated.

I am unsure if this is worth noting, but fight scene in the OP against the golem may be paying homage to various portions of the dragon quest franchise. The party composition is very similar to that of the party Comp in the opening for Dragon quest XI, with a warrior, healer, mage, and a monk. The monk garb shown looks to resemble a more feminine version of the monk garb in Dragon quest XI. The basic outline is the same as well. It starts with the healer healing the warrior class, followed by an attack by the monster, and finishing with the warrior applying a finishing blow. The Red samurai armor may be a reference to a pretty late game set of armor you can get in Dragon Quest 8 and the golem shares very similar shape to those with in the Dragon quest series.

If I remember Archie used a rock spell and he runs up it to attack in a similar manner in the Tales of Phantasia Animation they did (not the Op of the game but animation much like how Symphonia got a series of them). I know it's probably a weak reason, but when I first saw it, it reminded me of that scene

I think the enemy from that final fight is also reminiscent of Dragon Quest, though I only ever played Dragon Quest IX. Still, there was a golem-type enemy that was pretty much exactly the giant they were fighting, just a lot smaller, because it was a basic enemy. And looking them up, they appear to be a staple of the series. dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/Golem

I always believed that the end of the OP is the grand daddy to all rpgs, Dungeons and Dragons. The healer is a cleric, the mc is a paladin with his divine smite ability at the end, the magic user is either a wizard or a sorcerer with the classic magic missile spell, the samurai armour is the fighter class as a tank and the karate girl is a monk.

Time for that one knitpicky comment that says you got something wrong. Aguri was actually Ike in the smash brothers section of the OP, you can tell by the exact damage % that was dealt and the way she swings the blade down, Ike's uncharged side smash dealing exactly 23%. Attention to detail is insane in this OP, I swear to god.

Anime has become a cesspool of references and unoriginal story tropes that for some inane reason still remain because animators know they work and they don't have the resources and time to experiment. Whenever I see a video that praises an anime for its references or comments on how fun it is, the facepalms just get that more painful.

When Tendo & Keta got together I was like "FINALLY we can have an actual relationship!" but no even after that, the misunderstandings constantly kept coming, look if you like it that's fine but I had enough of that shit.

The fight scene is probably an homage to the Tales of series always showing the party fighting a massive monster of some type in every single modern opening that the series has had, Vesperia shows Judith fighting a Golem, Xillia and Xillia 2 also have a fight that was similar in style, as well as Zestiria, Abyss, and so on. So I don't really think it's referencing any one Tales game, bot more or less all of them.

the elitistic comment of the day. You know that something doesn't have to be objetively good to be a favorite of someone, do you know that right? My favorite anime is highschool of the dead because all the references to classic zombie movies and vietnam movies, fanservice and good detailed guns. No, but i guess you don't get that logic, people should be blamed for like what they like, yes, of course, sound logic right there, yes i will force myself to watch something objetively better even if i don't like it FOR THE GREATER GOOD. Ah, yes, comments like yours reminds me people complaining about fanservice and bouncing boobs when you can go to animes from fucking 1989 and find the same thing, anime has barely changed over the years. In fact Hideaki Anno before making Evangelion made a couple of fanservice shows, and the mangaka of Berserk loves Idol games, so now they're also whats wrong with the industry? both of those guys had made masterpieces but they also can enjoy and like weeby stuff as well.

This video is about Gamers! Not highschool of the dead.... i liked highschool of the dead, i don't like gamers because its garbage, cliched, cringey, fan-service covered and boring. I don't see how me calling Gamers shit has anything to do with Highschool of the dead and to say that anime has hardly changed over the years is just disingenuous and plainly wrong. Yes such fan service animes existed in the past, obviously. But it is undeniable truth that such animes have greatly increased in number as the years have gone by and by continuing to sing the praises of such shows the anime industry will just be further incentivized to create boring cliched stories filled with fan service instead of actually trying to make something new and be creative.

@@dodgechance4564 yawn. It's easy to claim that a show is generic without explaining. Gamers! However is a show revolving around taking the piss out of the misunderstanding trope in anime all the while establishing growing friendship in their group. It accomplishes both of these things. 6:48 I'm pretty sure it is referencing doki doki literature club, as the character design has a very similar style to that game. The background is exactly the same style and the dialogue box in that game is also a shade of purple with shapes behind the text. I'm surprised no one has suggested that. But it's just speculation. Very good game though, check it out.

On the topic of the RPG reference at the end of the OP. I think that its not really supposed to be a specific reference and more of just the cast in a jrpg setting. My reasoning for this is kinda abstract: The OP seems to be divided up into 4 distinct chunks, with the music separated to match. All the video game references are packed into the second section (spanning from the 25 second mark, to the 50 second mark in /watch?v=lBYkMFGkZNc). The first and final section are the bookends, then this 3rd section is a distinct section of its own, instead of being part of the video game reference montage.

I think the final image is a reference to Final Fantasy you have a white mage, black mage, warrior, monk, red mage/ samurai which are all classes found in the staple parts of the series and the general non clearness may represent the overall non conformity of the series as a whole.

I think the final scene is just a mash of JRPG character archetypes. The classic Hero and Cleric, with the more obscure but still quite common (originally from JRPGs if I'm not wrong), Mage/Wizard, Monk and Samurai. If I recall correctly, most JRPGs only include Archers as a last resort, and prefer different types of mages as backline support.

I think it's a bit of a JRPG Pastiche at the end there. HOWEVER, as a big fan of JRPGs, I can easily recognize a number of nearly-shot-for-shot scenes from it that come from all of the various animated Tales of Openings. In particular, take a look at Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia to see nearly identical giant-monster fights. The minor costume parallels to Dragon Quest strike me as more coincidental and 'generic JRPG' than actual references, but I won't discount them since Dragon Quest is THE Ur-JRPG and an easy visual shorthand for calling those tropes to mind.

The JRPG battle could be Dragon Quest 9 or Dragon Quest 10. Both games have original class armor designs that match the ones missing from DQ3, and have DQ3 reference class armor sets as well. Both 9 and 10 have strong multiplayer functionality too (9 lets other players join your party over WiFi, 10 is flat out an MMO), which would explain why the group is fighting together in that shot.

I think the sakuga bit at the end is supposed to be a mmorpg not a single player game, but I don't really have a reason for that. I also think the characters are supposed to represent generic classes in very clichéd costumes, Which is why it looks similar to a lot of things but not like anything in specific.
