I have a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 ABS KRT edition (aggressively gorgeous, lightweight and agile) and a Genuine "Buddy 50" scooter (made in Taiwan, not China!). The Kawa is for highways, and the scooter, since it has a trunk/basket on the rear, is for small, local shopping. I was on my scooter one day when a small motorcycle whizzed past me, and out of curiosity, I followed it until I caught up to it to talk with the owner, and that was my introduction to a Grom. Soon after that, I purchased a 2018 Grom in stock condition, from a private dealer. I get smiles/mile on all my steeds - but MOSTLY from the Grom as I ride local streets - WHAT A BLAST!! (At 78 years of age, I'll take a blast when I can get it!) Nice review - thanks!

@@Thesaviorsway Fact is, I had previously seen videos of the Kawi vs Grom, and the Grom seems to have garnered a lot more acceptance from folks, and the "cottage industry" for mod parts is tremendous, much like that of the Ruger 10-22. After riding the (barely used) Grom near the seller's house, I was HOOKED. I'll be 79 (Imperial, not Metric) years of age in a couple of weeks, and the Grom still makes me feel like a "reckless" kid, the way I swing that puppy around. ; )

Story sounds exactly like mine. Ditched the car because of cost, tried a scooter, which was fun, then saw a small Grom whizz past and had to google it. Now had my Grom for almost 3 years which I mostly use for city commutes. It has it's quirks, but still perfect for what I need.

I just got my 2020 grom back in January as my first motorcycle, hot damn I'm in love with the thing and I've been constantly looking for a second/third/fourth one haha, I put 2700 miles on it so far and loving every moment of it!
@fishontv123 Жыл бұрын
What's your opinion on getting one as a first bike? I see so many people saying not to cause they claim you'll get bored of it within a month and want something else thats a 400 or 500cc.
@crazycamkalani Жыл бұрын
@@fishontv123 I started riding with a grom cause I knew I wouldn't be able to trust the power of a bigger bike and I would've gotten myself killed lol. I have 2 more bikes now (mt07 & mt09) and I still love the grom cause its so tiny and fun, my commute to work is a little bit too far so I don't get to ride it as much as I want to though. Groms top out at 60 but you really don't want to be going any faster than ~50mph

Thank you! I had a very cheap aftermarket seat before because I didn't want to spend $300 on a seat, but it was garbage and didn't help. Suspension I just put off and wish I had gone ahead and bought the ohlins kit (which I have) sooner.

@@lexdfox ok great! I have a cheap little foam piece I sit on and it works well enough. don't wanna spend $150 on CheekySeat. rather put there money into suspension or newer lighter variator and/or clutch. and Ohlins ok right on. did you happen to buy 2 and need to sell one?! :) is the new suspension night and day compared to stock? stock is pretty hard on some bumps. does that Ohlins make it more like a Cadillac? what rating would you give the stock spring out of 1-10 for you? and now the Ohlins is what would you say out of 1-10?

Top Notch. CHOICE looking machine; you brought-out the Tech nicely. I'm an older (and heavier) tech/rider, decades of big bikes and large distances. 27 bikes previous (currently a Suzuki 1200 and a Yamaha 1300). BUT I am burning with GROM FEVER. I know how much fun a small bike can be, (used to rent them overseas), so may get a new one soon, and expect to be making Peformance upgrades as soon as the Warranty expires. But the Ocean of Grom Philosophy is immense! My head is swimming with claims about Chimera intakes, BBK kits, Aracers, Kitaco clutch mods, and improved tensioner wheels. What's a credible info site? i'm Grom Thirsty!

You won't read this but worth a shot I'm 16 thinking of getting one but I don't have alot of income $50 a month maybe less I don't need a license to buy and ride it's legal here since it's a 125cc bike but I'm scared since maintenance and repair might be expensive other KZbinrs said it's pretty cheap to repair and maintaining it is also cheap, I'll be using it as a daily driver Definitely stock I'll never mod my Grom but thinking of under glow lights and a couple of brighter lights on the front Good news from this video parts seems decently cheap I don't know how much insurance will cost though I might not even get insurance tbh btw parts here are definitely cheaper than where you are usually a battery change would cost maybe 10 dollars to $30 max, an entire chain and sprocket change is $25 both front and back sprocket and chain good deal, tires are $30 for a set Thanks for this video mate helps a ton with my questions I have now I can confidently save for it and buy it without worry I have my eye on a $250 grom used yeah groms are cheap in asia 😂 $450 most but $250 ish exist oh and how is it on long rides like 200+ km trips bumpy roads and stuff does it handle fine?

That’s if you are doing your own maintenance. Some people take their bike to the shop to have this stuff done so out will be much higher…… I think that’s an important factor that you didn’t mention

Very true, thanks for pointing that out! I sometimes forget that. For me personally, half the fun of bikes is wrenching and the maintenance.

The only one for sale in the city I live in, is a 2015, he wants $2600 for it. It has 2,950 miles, do you think it’s worth it? The only mods it has on it are the handle bars, and a different exhaust.

Do you think someone whos new to riding (taking my MSF course later this year) would get bored of this bike and wish they got something else? I wouldnt wanna get a Grom and then wish I put the money towards a Ninja 400 instead.
@lexdfox Жыл бұрын
This is a good question, but the answer is up to you and your riding. Obviously my opinion is no you won't get bored of it, because I've owned mine for going on 7 years now. But ask yourself what kind of riding you would like to continue doing and if the grom would fit that mold. Ultimately, getting a grom and outgrowing it isn't too big of a deal, people outgrown and sell/buy different bikes all the time! Even me, I've bought and sold dozens of bikes before and since settling on a grom as the "lifetime" bike.
