Getting into Spearhead/AoS 4th from playing Warcry. I'm also a "buy everything" guy. In the past month, I picked up 3400 points of Kharadron Overlords from various eBay auctions thinking "oh, that's a good price". I now have at least 1 of each KO unit, other than Ironclad, Drekki and a Codewright. I have a lot of hobby and painting to do! Hoping to work on the Spearhead units first, then whatever takes my fancy for Warcry units, while slowly working up to 2,000 points. Maybe KO will be a playable army by then. Failing that, I'll have a nice display of balloon lads, and tons of options for Warcry!

I picked up Drekki and a random KO army off FB! It's in a butt of a state though, so needs work. But oh dang I need to see someone explain how that army works because it's beyond my skill cap atm

​@@GlassHalfDead Aethercast is a YT channel/podcast dedicated to KO stuff, so may be a good place to start. Long-form content, but have done a faction pack first thoughts video going over all the Warscrolls. They might be the sort of shenanigans army you'd like to play. Options to play aggressive with the Frigate and Assualt Boat ability (which is a Charge ability that can be used during Counter-Charge to get Strike First during your opponents turn). Or you can play a bit more cagey and try stay out of melee range and shoot everything off the table (we 40k now). I'm only saying this from all the info I've absorbed from KZbin, Reddit and Discord. Not convinced they are good, but at the end of the day, you get to play with Steampunk Dwarves with Skyboats, so who's *really* winning?

Yeah, this is a good argument. You're either so competitive that you know exactly what you want to build and buy, or you aren't going to tournaments regularly, and so you should buy and paint what you think is cool, because its time will probably come around sooner or later. Except for finecast. Or forgeworld resin. Or any 30k models that you want for 40k. Those are more in "fool me twice, shame on me" territory at this point, and should probably only be bought if you're happy with it _only_ being a display piece, and not having rules.

I always follow rule of cool and variety - I agree there will be big changes in the first 3 month review of the rules. That way something's got to synergise in the end, also I've a lot more focus this year on painting etc. as it's impossible for me to have a tabletop game against an actual person.

Good to see you enjoying the current weather brother. It's the worst thing about the format and Games Workshop in general. You're investing in something that you have literally no control over. You're almost goaded into buying as much as possible to make sure everything you have is fun and relevant, because they are synonymous with each other in this. I don't think there's a right and wrong, more like what are you buying them for? I love the Lumineth, but their combat patrol is so boring, although i want to be able to play with the army in that format. So then i just buy them for their design and it's a cycle. You reiterate the right issue "Everything will change", and you've gotta be okay with that.

@GlassHalfDead atta boy! I did the same and got a bunch of discount nighthaunt and was getting sad when I saw them winning quite a bit. Then I looked at what I owned and I realized I was missing most of the important stuff. No Reikenor and no hexwraiths (that kit is so ugly that I refuse to buy them no matter how good they are). So I feel a bit better.

I take it a step further than buying meta units, I just buy the whole range, removing the guess work lol. Whenever I start a new army its never for the edition I started it in, but for that next edition if I know its a model that will survive several edtions in the future. And I always target fomo boxes. People say not to for whatever reasons but its the best way to save hundreds to thousands of dollars on an investment that'll last me for years to come. I dropped nearly $1200 on Necrons since 9th ed , sll box sets and value kits like their KT. Sylvaneth have been similar but to a greater degree since they have less of range. I just started STD this edition and am already 3 box sets in with their start collect, spearhead, and Dawnbringer box.
