What The Flick?!

Күн бұрын

Logan starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, and Dafne Keen is reviewed by Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap and Linoleum Knife podcast), and Christy Lemire (www.ChristyLemi...).
Read what other critics had to say: www.rottentoma...
It's 2029. Mutants are gone--or very nearly so. An isolated, despondent Logan is drinking his days away in a hideout on a remote stretch of the Mexican border, picking up petty cash as a driver for hire. His companions in exile are the outcast Caliban and an ailing Professor X, whose singular mind is plagued by worsening seizures. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy abruptly end when a mysterious woman appears with an urgent request--that Logan shepherd an extraordinary young girl to safety. Soon, the claws come out as Logan must face off against dark forces and a villain from his own past on a live-or-die mission, one that will set the time-worn warrior on a path toward fulfilling his destiny.

agreed the movie is not credited as much but if you want a superhero movie with an intense emotional theme with the perfect farewell its Logan. Ok it is not original but its very true to its idea. So far only 2 movies have given Super Heroes the perfect send off. One was Logan , other was Terminator 2. Marvels End Game also tried and somewhat succeeded but there were just too many characters in it to allow it to create a strong emotional impact. An A+.

And with the world being in such disrepair in the movie I highly doubt cellphone tech is a big thing. This is the movie of the year, perhaps the decade. It's grimness and despair rival that of George Romero and the Coen brothers, and in that grimness and despair it shows itself to be uniquely human. 10/10.

Lol to be fair to Alonso I also noticed the cell phone thing because there's a scene where there's a dialogue exchange and they say what year it is then it cuts to show the world then it cuts directly to his phone so it stood out. It's not a cinematic miracle to win Best Picture to validate fans' taste, the film has no concept of pacing, but it is really good I think 8's about right.

I was so enthused when I heard just now about this movie being a throwback to the 70s! It's almost a shame Jackman doesn't want to continue in the character because Mangold sounds like the perfect match for the mythology of Wolverine! I knew this series under Mangold's direction would be a charm the second time because he is an intelligent, awesomely talented filmmaker who probably listened to The Wolverine's criticisms and knew he had to improve. But, not to be downer, realistically it's gonna be very interesting to see the final box office total because it's R Rating! It is low budget but big studios expect super numbers for any comic book franchise! Especially for an X Men related property! I hope it makes enough to inspire an R Rated series of popular comic book properties!

Personally, I was pleasantly surprised the near future in Logan, for the most part, basically looks the same as modern day. Too many movies over-estimate the advancement of technology, and age horribly as a result. Sure, there will be some technological advances 12 years from now, but for the most part, things will largely look the same.

Yeah but like any other bit of tech, things become stagnant. There was a time when the design of traditional telephones drastically changed, then looked more or less the same for decades. Smartphones haven't changed much in the past five years, and I don't think they will change much more in the next decade.

@KeithBallardA
@KeithBallardA 7 жыл бұрын
He didn't say that at all. Feeling like pointing something out isn't the same thing as subtracting points. The concept of "subtracting points" also really doesn't apply to movie reviews. Movies don't start out as perfect and then lose points. That's how papers are graded in school.
@KTK44
@KTK44 7 жыл бұрын
Keith Ballard: Unless you go into a movie with zero expectations your argument is flawed. Most go into a movie with expectations of some degree, meaning those expectations are either fulfilled, exceeded or not. So in a sense you do actually substract points from a movie if you go into it with high expectations. Logan had a lot of buzz around it, and I bet the critics where excited also based on some very good trailers. So yeah, I don't buy your argument at all. And Logan was amazing btw. 9.5/10.

Get the movie, but to me it was a huge disappointment. For me and quite to the contrary, I oddly felt emotionally disconnected from this movie. What promise the trailers had, in terms of emotional engagement, this movie didn't have. "Logan" reminds me, in terms of a cinematic equivalent, of "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome", another movie which was the last part of a trilogy and meant as a goodbye to a popular character, a maddeningly able film that ultimately fails to deliver its true potential. And yes the movie is too long, by at least 10-15 minutes.
