Although we were not directly introduced this weekend, I do recall seeing you and your spouse at NSXPO2021. We were one of a few Washington attendees with red/black 1991 NA1/5 MT cars. Your videos are really informative. For example, I had never known what to do with the gas cap when fueling the car until now. Also, with our drives back to Washington from the NSXPO site, I am considering an upgrade of my headlights to LED and your video on that topic was totally on point. Finally, I was totally unaware of the button in the glove box and the purpose of it. Finally, the "flocking" on my engine cover is in decent shape but only because nobody had bothered to touch it. In other words, the black carpet materials will disintegrate with any contact, so your video on that dilemma was a bit reassuring. Dave

I did not know/think about the inside of the door trick. Knew the rest. Only difference is the front bonnet/hood, if you will, I lower it down and close it like I do the trunk. One other thing I am amazed at is how many owners do not know the door air vents tilt up.

Wow, that was awesome!! I learned three things, where the fuel cap can rest (I even knew there was a designated spot for it but couldn’t figure out where), the glove box button (Which is why I suspect is why the button on the door “stopped” working), and the jump points! All good stuff. The other things I had pretty figured out on my own but those three are priceless!! I assume the jump points are probably the best location for a battery tender as well? (Edit: As others have remarked, closing the door by the pushing behind the door handle was a new tip for me as well!)
@LapoftheWorld4 жыл бұрын
For the battery tender, it probably depends on your parking situation. If you plan to permanently install the leads, then I've seen most folks rout the car end of the dongle from the battery up into one of the openings in the front bumper as there are also convenient mounting points up there.

Also i am dying to try out the bridgestone potenza race, I hope they will fit.
@LapoftheWorld2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The RPF1s are a nice combo of light, decent looking, and not terribly expensive. I miss my Advan RZs at times from a purely aesthetic standpoint, but I don't miss paying extra for the 18" rear tires, lol. The TEs are classic and also very light. Not sure where the SP2s fall in weight. I've seen both look good on an NSX though. Those bridgestones look spicy, I'll have to keep an eye on available sizes.
@markusluftner84182 жыл бұрын
@@LapoftheWorld I intend on keeping the rg3s as a track wheel, and looking to drive te37, or meister sp2s on the street. It's purley for esthetic reasons. BTW the smallest size for the Potenza Race will be 225/45 R17

@@markusluftner8418 That may be problematic for your fender liners if you aren't running wide fenders or no liners. Really anything wider (really taller) than a 215/40 17 will rub pretty bad. 235/40 17 *might* work with perfect offsets but you'll probably still rub at full lock.

😁 You are certainly not the only person to have missed some of these things. Thank you for the video, Richard. I am planning to get a NSX in the near future. Have you drove a automatic NSX? If so, how would you compare it to a manual NSX in general?
@LapoftheWorld4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and good luck on your search! I have not driven an automatic NSX so I can only speak to the technical differences. Different cams and ECU mean the Automatic cars only put out ~250hp vs. 270/280 for the manual versions. Auto->Manual swaps are possible, but expensive and labor intensive. Subjectively if you are buying one to use as a "GT" with no real aspirations to drive it past 7/10ths, an auto car might be fine. For me, the manual was the only option.

super helpful video when i finally get one haha what's a decent price range for a stock '91 w/ ~40k miles? been looking to get one as a weekend cruise car
@LapoftheWorld3 жыл бұрын
Good luck with your search! For a really clean '91-'93 with that mileage it'll probably be in the $50-60k range depending on actual condition. I'd say "good" cars can be had down to the low $40k range, those might have more miles, but as long as they've been maintained the mileage isn't a problem. Any car under $40k is going to have a LOT of mileage and/or current issues that need fixed and/or a branded title.

whats the wheel and tire specs?
@LapoftheWorld3 жыл бұрын
Tires are 215/40R17 F / 255/40R17 R (so essentially the stock size for the '02+ NSX). Nice balance between grip and road manners without any rubbing. Wheels are Enkei RPF-1 17x8 +45F / 17x9+45R *with a 15mm spacer* on the rear. So effectively +30 offset. Enkei do make wheels with those "natural" specs, these were an offer I couldn't pass up.

I have a warning regarding the anti-lock brakes system on my 1994 5 speed. It is a godsend when pushing the limits, but it has a fatal flaw. On November 8, 2022 I had to break in rainy weather. No big deal; the Mercedes CLA in front of me simply stopped dead. I pushed in on the clutch and break to slow.down. The car slowed from about 18 - 20 mph quickly, but after that it just kept rolling. Today I played my dash cam video for the first time. After slowing to a mind numbing 5 mph it rolled another 15 feet and cracked my nose and bare miffed the underside of her bumper. WHY? This first series of NA1 had a system which simply released the brakes when a lock was sensed. After that it simply would not re-engage. My wife watched it with me and was dumbfounded. This is not the first time it happened. I slid on sand and dirt almost fifty feet at such a low speed there was nor damage to the car I hit. So let me warn you - as advanced as NSX was back then, the kinds of systems it engineered were only in their infancy in the car industry. My mechanic at Four Star in Tulsa simply said 'It's just one of those things you should upgrade because the newer versions don't have that problem. Great car however. Ity's just old enough that the turn signal cancellation and cruise control stopped working. $1000 plus later it is working fine. Had I bought the part new the bill would have been closer to $3K.
@LapoftheWorld2 жыл бұрын
That's maybe the first situation I've heard of the early ABS system failing in an "off" position, but you're definitely right. The NSX was the first production car with 4-channel ABS. Bleeding edge at the time, but very fiddly to keep the system working after 30+ years. For my part ended up in the gravel after T10a at Road Atlanta because it decided I didn't have ABS halfway into the braking zone, Just enough lock that I barely didn't make the turn after realizing that threshold braking was suddenly way more important, lol. The best solution (and what I've done) is upgrading to the 2000+ NSX ABS module which is way smarter and doesn't rely on ancient solenoids, accumulators, and pumps to get the job done. Looks factory if installed correctly (because it technically is) and plays nicely with all of the warning lights, etc.

👍I don't want to discourage anyone from looking them up, but figured the "such as" catch-all would be sufficient for this discussion. No one's likely to see one in real life and while exceedingly rare, from a technical standpoint they're nothing revolutionary (by most accounts they are just cosmetically updated NA2-R cars used homologate the aero packages for the '02+ JGTC cars). The Spoon version is cool but that's a 3rd party package, not factory Honda.
