The first time I got hit for real was a sucker punch. I was 14 and the guy was maybe 19 or something. I used to box and kickbox (20 years ago) at least once twice a year we'd get some guy come in thinking he was the rooster. It was embarrassing teenagers, some dude just outta basic or even grown ass men, we would knock em around a bit send them on their way. I had a 19 year old kid just didn't get the hint being really aggressive and hitting people really hard. We asked him to take it down a few but he didnt want to hear it. So I spar him lead him towards edge of ring got his back on center of ropes a bumped him with my shoulder. He fell against the ropes and as the tension pushed him back into ring I stepped to my left and over hand right to bridge of his nose, he didn't look the same after that. I know it sounds harsh but you can't go into a lions den and start poking the animals without getting bit.

As a relatively competent amateur boxer for 10 years in my youth. It’s always been about the experience of situation. What I mean is boxer is no good on the ground. And ground guy is no good on feet. But the average street punk who’s thrown a few hands faster than the last guy has absolutely no idea how big of a soft slow perfectly open target is on top of that neck… and how hard someone can actually hit who puts even their toes behind it.

People always ignore what is probably the most important aspect of fighting and what makes people who trains martial arts way superior than regular folks, heart. We use to be beaten, to train to exhaustion, to endure a huge amount of damage and push through anything. A punch in the face is nothing to a trained person, but can be devastating to any regular person, independent on their physical prowess or size.

First thing you learn as a new fighter at a school is that basically everyone else there is better than you. And even after training for a few years, there are going to be people that are better than you at that school. And there are other schools! So many men think they're great fighters because they sucker punched some tiny dude who was probably talking straight facts, hence the sucker punch. Or you beat up your nerdy/gay/short/ half asleep friend/cousin/son that you outweigh by 75 lbs. You're only a good fighter if you can defeat someone larger than you. Larger than you is the key. I said it twice because there will be some trolls who won't read
