War dogs. The retelling of all those that fell in the line of duty is fit to make a a grown man want to cry. Some even do. Have heard of soldiers & even whole units that owed their lives to them...and would have traded their own in exchange if they could.

Thank you to both of them for their service. The most heart warming moment for me is reuniting a retired service dog to their training handler. The human where have you been reaction is beautiful. I had the honor of working with a cadaver dog for a bit, while training as a fire fighter. Their ability to track even the faintest sound or smell is truly amazing. While in training we were taught that 9/11 rescue workers had to volunteer to hide in the rubble to be found. So many were becoming depressed from finding body after body that many of them stopped eating and refused to work. And people say that dogs have no soul. Those people have no soul.

Yeah, in the military the dog is always at the very least a rank higher than their handler. This is to prevent the handler from abusing the canine or face Military Law Justice Article 91

Well, never was a K9 soldier. But key to training Dogs so far in my experience- Take care of them, like you would take care of yourself. Positive Reinforcement for correct actions, and consequences for negative behavior that is not gonna be demeaning to the Dog, and make it SCARED of you, and not trust you. You take care of them like you would yourself, family or your battle.

We had a sentry dog training company overseas...One night , while we were conducting an instant reaction force deployment,,one of the dog handlers found it prudent to loose his dog on the nearest sentry...Belgian Malinois speeding toward the sentry,,,no growl no nothing...and it was quiet enough to hear the sentry's M-14 click to full auto...dog got a dozen feet away and caught 15 rounds...never could figure out why that handler did that...but he was lucky he didn't catch the rest of that magazine..
