Its kind of insane - especially as a university student - that I have to pay as much money as these companies are asking for, for clothes that fit me. All this means it that the supply for actual fitting clothes is so low with such high demand that companies get to exploit it. I don't have money to buy clothes from a lot of the the companies listed, though obviously not all of them. Not that any of this is the fault of your list Brock, I'm always happy with the content you put out and the video itself is still great. All that being said I'm still happy that a channel actually exists for this sort of thing, at least there's someone out there for us :p P.S ROBBIE BROWN'S: I've been to Robbie Brown's the prices aren't listed on the website but most shirts in the store go for over 100, 200 dollars. It's INCREDIBLY expensive.
@BrockMcGoff6 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. Although, for the record, I truly don't think these companies are exploiting low supply/high demand. I think they're just trying to make enough profit to stay in business. It's *really* hard for a small apparel brand to stay afloat, let alone provide salaries for its founders and employees. These brand probably have way higher cost of goods than most big brands, and their margins are often slim. In fact, I'd wager that increased demand would lower prices in this case. If the Peter Mannings of the world could order in larger quantities, mill their own fabrics, etc., they'd have much lower cost of goods. Again, I hear you. These clothes aren't the cheapest. But I don't think they're unfairly priced or overpriced - just expensive by many guys' standards (especially younger guys and students).
@LastTimeLord126 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point. I didn't consider that the companies are smaller and run by a few individuals who need money too, which is something you'd think I know considering I'm a frustrated uni student :p I'd totally buy the clothes for the quality alone if I had the money. I got into the whole fashion thing a few months ago, it's really frustrating to walk into a store trying to improve and not being able to because of my size...once you bring finances into the equation as well, it becomes difficult to stay motivated.

I also buy jeans in Big Boy's size 18 regular, which are cut for a guy exactly my height (65-66" tall) and finally I have jeans that fit in the crotch and butt area, again they are name brand jeans. The same would apply to sweaters and polos, jackets and outerwear too...most name brands make clothing for teen/big boy sizes that are cut for a shorter guy. Same quality. and no outrageous prices. Guys look at name brands in size Boy's sizes 18-20....they will fit tons of guys in our size range.

Hi Brock First up, let me congratulate you on a great site and channel. Informative and presented professionally. Love your down to earth, unpretentious style. Now, about Peter Manning. From your description of yourself and looking at the pictures Id say I am about your size although probably an inch and half shorter but with probably wider shoulders and wider waist ( usually take a 30In). I also think I could have chunkier legs. I am about the same weight. One thing I do have is short arms. I've never been able to buy shirts or outer garments where the sleeves have fitted me. The one brand where the sleeves are ok is Uniqlo although even with them I wish the sleeves were about an inch or so shorter. So that been said, what size do you take in the PMNY jackets? I love the lambskin leather one you wear and also the field jacket.
@BrockMcGoff4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You should probably try size 1 for a fitted look. But I'd probably order 1 and 2, then return whichever doesn't fit.

Hi Brock, if I were to buy just 1 item from Peter Manning, what would you recommend? I live in Europe but my wife is visiting NYC in a week or so. I'm kinda digging the black leather jacket. I believe alpha m. has one too. I'm also considering the topcoat as it's impossible to find one that fits my 5'5", 140lb frame over here. Both would be nice but I'm hesitant to spend so much money on clothes (especially expensive clothes) without trying them on beforehand. By the way, what's the size of your leather jacket? According to the website, I should be a size 3. Oh, and thanks for all the videos! Fantastic stuff!
@BrockMcGoff6 жыл бұрын
That’s tough... I’d gravitate toward the leather jacket. I wear it more than any top coat I own. I’m a size 1, but the size chart would probably say I’m a 2. You’re probably better off in a 2, but it’s tough to say without trying it on. I’ll be honest: it’s a risky purchase if you’re in Europe, so you have to be okay with the return process. But it is an awesome brand that’s worth trying IMO.
@AylwinCal6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response! I was actually thinking of getting a 2 since I'm only slightly over the limit according to the size chart. And I'd prefer a more snug fit over a loose one. I'm sure you can understand how paranoid I am about ordering clothes that are too big. :) In any case, I can see that the size 1 you wear fits very well and there's still room for some layering. You're right about the risk though. I'll have to take that into consideration.
@BrockMcGoff6 жыл бұрын
I’d definitely go 2 not 3 if you want a snug fit. But yeah man, tough call. Lmk how it turns out if you end up getting something!

Thanks for the video! I'm young and still growing, but I have been having a lot of problems. I have long legs for my short body and I'm also very skinny. For height, I'm a 30, but for the waist size, I'm about a 24. In the kids section, I'm an 18, but that's actually rare to find. That all means I have to spend an entire day at a massive mall just to find one reasonable pair of pants and all my pants are much more baggy than I wish 🙁
@Pyridius6 жыл бұрын
Would you say these companies are a good alternative to tailoring most mall brands or is it something people should do instead of shopping at regular brands.
@BrockMcGoff6 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. I do a mix of both. Standard brands + tailoring works for a lot of basics. Outerwear can be tough, depending on what it is. My wardrobe is probably 30-40% specialty brands, 10% custom and the rest standard + tailoring.
@Pyridius6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm looking to work on outerwear since I've just started living in Northern California so it's much colder than the south. Do you have any thoughts on ASOS for tops/outerwear? I've read that it's good for shorter men, and I've seen you mention them occasionally in articles, have you considered doing a video on them too?
@BrockMcGoff6 жыл бұрын
I should do a vid on them soon. I know Khoi from Gentleman Within has an awesome Harrington jacket from ASOS that fits him perfectly. They carry XXS which is cool. In my experience, their ASOS brand stuff is pretty low quality, but you get what you pay for. I like their skinny chino shorts, but they fall apart after a couple seasons.

The Modest Man I’m glad it works out for you but I don’t know how you get past the height filters. I guess it depends on where you live. I live in Maryland so I’m by Baltimore and Washington D.C so I guess the women have a large pool of men to choose from due to population and let me tell you they are some of the most stuck up bishes you ever seen. And before you say well there’s a lot of women too, they’re all going for the top 10-20% of men so a minority of men are getting most of the women. Look up the 80/20 rule. Similar to how other animals reproduce. Hypergamy in action
