Yeah people thinking a midsize truck is a good replacement for a growing family type vehicle may be in for a rude awakening when they actually need to use it as such. Even a double cab Tundra will be more suited due to the width advantage it has. I think sometimes people see the Tacoma with 4 doors and assume it has the space and passenger accommodations that even a RAV4 would, when in fact it might be even tighter.

I towed with it once in the mountains and on the CA highways pulling my old VW Jetta diesel on a car skid to the dealer for turn in in San Juan Capistrano some 70-80 miles from home. This and similar wording is in several places in the latest version of Ford's towing guide. It's referring to the chart in the brochure, but no idea why they put that wording in instead of a payload that is GVWR-GVW= Payload. "Cargo Weight Rating shown in chart is maximum allowable, assuming weight of a base vehicle with required camper option content and a 150- lb. passenger at each available seating position." Maybe I missed something in the brochure, but I can see why you might be getting comments saying the door sticker isn't including occupants.
@Pickuptrucktalk2 жыл бұрын
What page are you seeing that? I'm seeing "Maximum towing capabilities are for properly equipped vehicles with required equipment and a 150-lb. driver and passenger and vary based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories, option content and number of passengers. Maximum payload capabilities are for properly equipped vehicles with required equipment and vary based on vehicle configuration, accessories, and option content." Max towing vs Max payload. The towing including 150 lb driver and passenger language is just Ford CYA.

I don't really need a rear seat and considered a full sized regular cab with a 6 foot bed versus the mid-sized, mainly because of the size of the truck when parked in a garage. (Due to the supply shortages on dealer lots and inflated prices), I punted and went with a 2005 Toyota Tundra Access Cab with less than a 100K on the odometer. Payload is 1575 lbs. - not great, but better than 900 lbs. The 1st Gen Tundra Access Cab is about a foot longer and maybe 8 or 9 inches wider than a 3rd Gen Tacoma. With regards to garage parking - which is my case is in an alley - it is two or more stabs going in and the same coming out, because my neighbor across the way has fence place right up to alley right of way.

Done both midsize and full size. Midsize will work for most people, easier to maneuver and live with, and can do some full size jobs if equipped. Typically cost less to run and maintain. Draw back is less power, less towing capability usually, and less space in the bed, interior, and engine bay. Fuel economy can go either way based on configuration. Aftermarket and equipment options are typically better for full size trucks. Prices aren’t that far apart like before. It’s give and take.

@Pickuptrucktalk2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Not part of payload.
@Mattedfred2 жыл бұрын
@@Pickuptrucktalk I think this still might confuse some people. Please correct me if I'm wrong but, a full tank of fuel is already included in the curb weight of the vehicle therefore it is factored into the equation. The fixed number is the GVWR. If one weighed their vehicle with any amount of fuel in the tanks and subtracted that weight from the vehicles GVWR the result would be their payload. If they then added more fuel to the tanks after the weighing they would have to subtract that amount from their payload. In conclusion, if you hauled with 1/4 tank of gas you could haul more payload.

Depending on how much/large you haul, something like a Maverick or Santa Cruz may fit the bill. Would be good daily driving or on a road trip as well.
@SasukeUchiha-zu6dw2 жыл бұрын
Yeah probably the maverick is best for your use case. If stuck between mid size and full size the only real advantage of mid size is easier to park/maneuver in the city or out on tight trails. The 2 sizes cost about the same these days and even get very similar gas mileage, but full size gets more payload, towing, space and comfort.

@@ALMX5DP I'm more impressed with the Maverick in this case but I don't haul big round bales like that, I haul the flat rectangular ones that weight about 100lbs each; I could only fit maybe four of those in the bed before it becomes dangerous. The torture test they did on the hill was the most interesting part to me but given the nasty winters here in Northern Nevada I really do need something with all wheel or four wheel drive which means I can't get the hybrid. Everything shows that what I need is likely a Ranger or Tacoma. If the Maverick had a bigger, 5.5 or 6.5 foot bed, it would be a lot more useful to me. Otherwise, yeah, gimme the Maverick. That being said, my dream truck is either an F150 king ranch with the powerboost, or a 1794 Tundra with the hybrid. And that comes down to styling. But I am never gonna be able to afford those.
