Having had an asus ROG Strix 3090 oc for about six weeks now I can confirm they are a fantastic gpu, the lighting specifically is very well done and casts a halo effect on the fans. It’s fast as hell and wipes the floor with my Strix 2080ti as you’d expect. It’s quiet and it’s well built It does need a decent PSU though, especially if you want to overclock but anyone splashing out for one of these cards won’t skimp on a PSU is my guess. So for anyone waiting to get one of these I can tell you they are well worth the wait.

Totaly agree wit your comments about the Strix 3090s slim/non existant advantages over the competition out of the box. Where this card excells though is with custom watercooling. The massive aircooler is doing a tremedous job here, but aircooling that beast has its limits, into which all the 3090s seem to run. Under water, things suddenly change alot. With an appropriate waterblock and radiator setup, the ROG Srix's 60 mlcc's, 480 watt powertarget and Asus pre-binning of the GPUs on the OC variant, you get a 3090 that runs at ~45°C under load with stable 2.200MHz boost for hours. Ofcourse, such a custom watercooling loop adds again alot more cash to the bill. But the true target audience for a card like this is people running customs loops anyway, wanting to replace whatever GPU they have atm with the new best card there is. If you don't want to make compromises, the Asus ROG Strix 3090 OC is the only option.

I bought this model today, and it cost me about 1800USD. The issue is that in Argentina, buying an RTX 3080 Strix costs around 1500USD, because sellers are stealing, taking advantage of economic instability and ignorance of what a product really costs. Unfortunately, at least for me and in Argentina, it is more profitable for us to buy a 3090 than to take advantage of the significant price difference between it and the 3080.

@PrimeRsoul4 жыл бұрын
Two things I'd like to add: 1. At this price point, please look closely at the hardware components used. Especially pay attention to the PCB, and components used for power delivery. For instance: I've run into Zotac cards (previous generation) that had poor quality components leading to artifacts and failure. I've seen MSI using poor components on a high-end board, while using relatively good components on a cheap card. Yes, this will require some technical research but when you spend this much, I think that' time spent is justified. 2. If you're going for a new PSU, you might as well get a very efficient one with a good label. Depending on power usage of the entire system, maybe even aim for higher than 850W. All PSU's should come with a "curve" on the box or in the manual that shows their efficiency which indicates how much power is actually delivered to your system, and how much of the power is lost in terms of resistance and heat. And that last part can be important if you want fans to run at a lower speed (or not at all) and if you want to minimize the amount of heat the PSU radiates into your case. If electricity bills are not your favorite things, an efficient PSU can be an argument as well,... but I doubt you'd be "wasting" this much money on a 3090 if that were the case.
@TechTesters4 жыл бұрын
1) Yeah, but there is a cut-off somewhere. As long as it's "good", it becomes hard to draw a line at which point it's "great", or if that even matters. It also gives a false sense of reliability, you could argue that a mid-range PCB with a moderate power draw would last longer than a high-end power delivery pushing 480W. I think it's just too complicated to draw really fair conclusions, so I'll accept it as long as it's "fine" (which this board is definitely). Most people won't invest that time though even if I did ;) 2) I agree that for a 3090 you may as well spend 50-100$ on the PSU because you clearly don't lack money, that's for sure. 850W is still fine though. Typical i9/r9 + 3090 gaming load is closer to 500 Watt, you won't really save money by buying a 1000W PSU (if you can even get them, they're mostly sold out here), while losing a bit in light power loads. A really fancy PSU might be able to handle a 3090 gaming with the fans off though, that could be a good argument.
