Good points. I'd like to add that to be successful in poker, EVERYTHING starts with DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE. The discipline to study poker, the discipline to review hands we played, the discipline to put in the hours playing, the discipline to control one's emotions, the discipline to exercise good bankroll management, the discipline to table select, etc. It ALL happens with DISCIPLINE.

Im only 18 and trying to learn as much poker as I can because it is a game I absolutely adore. Thanks for the good advice. I personally think the number one reason people go broke in the game is bad Bankroll Management. People tend to play to high stakes without having the bankroll for it, plus being too overconfident. Cheers for the video.

I dont want to be a 5 percenter or even a 1 precenter. I just would like to be good enough to spin a profit on a monthly basis. Maybe just a couple hundred a month. But I believe what you say that it's true that most people (myself included) just loose. I've only played at a table one time and it didn't take long to realize every one at that table was not in the profit as far as career earnings goes. They were all in the negative.

You can’t make this game as couple Of hundred a month and not do what he is saying and I mean playing tens of thousands of hands! That will make you becoming a winning player and would definitely teach you how to be disciplined. I played a lot of hands and I always thought about poker as a hobby. Till few months ago, when I started playing small tournaments in my local casino. I finished 1st once, chopped the prize pool with some other in the final table maybe 4 times, I finished 6th once I realized that yes, I can make it a side hustle but it’s still need a lot of studying and playing hands!

I’ve never in my life seen any profession where the very top 1% even less than 1% get rich. That’s pretty much with everything. Lawyers, doctors, pilots, engineers etc even business owners only the very top 1% of the businesses out there are making enough to get rich off it. It’s just about finding what you have the best chance to make that money in. If you have the personality of a lawyer and like to fix problems in other people’s lives you’d probably have a good chance to make it. But all who are rich and successful have 3 things in common that’s luck #1 this also holds the most weight. What I like about poker is everyone has luck. Everyone. It’s a game with a certain amount of luck tied to each hand. It’s beautiful really. Along with that #2 discipline/hardwork and #3 love/obsession

I agree with the emotional part. You have to be able to take the hits, cause they are gonna happen. And it is a game, when you get rocked, chuck it aside and keep playing your game. That said, I'm one that cashed out a winner, not 6 figures or anything but ..... the problem with making a living doing this is that, it just ain't worth it. The highest of highs are not 1/10th of how bad the lowest of lows are. And what you said, towards the end ... I get 0 joy from playing anymore. I sat with pros and never felt outmatched, they are playing the same game I am. I'll play for a couple hundred bucks but that's it, and just for fun, I'm bringing my A game but just with buddies. Rather get drunk playing $5 blackjack than poker at this point.

Winning at gambling is dangerous. More so than losing. I had a buddy who won $25k on a slot machine the 1st time he ever went to a casino, and it made him a gambling addict that lost many times more chasing that dragon. He couldn't afford to lose and was counting on winning, it ruined him for a while. I forget which comedian said it, but that car ride to the casino was always way more fun than the ride home. 😆

I’m definitely in that 25% of “small winners”. I win a few hundred bucks in my local 1-2 game every so often. I’m above break even, but not by a huge amount, and I’m not grinding away at the tables. I personally get more enjoyment studying, getting super into the math of the game, watching the best players, going through situations, examining the psychological element to the game, and working on my game slowly but surely than I do actually playing. I’m not incredibly motivated by money, I play this game so I can watch myself improve, thats where I get my enjoyment. I’m a lawyer, I’m not strapped for cash, and I love my job.

If I do lose in the end at least I didn't invest nothing. I am starting off with a bankroll I made from playing freeroll tourneys for cash prizes. Beating 600 to 800 players in a tournament isn't easy but I did it and built my bankroll from scratch. I didn't invest money. Just my time playing and learning. I play all day every day. Even when I work i am playing. I still do my job but I play all night long when I work also. 😂 Addicted to poker!

I got pocket kings in the big blind. I raised aggressively and got two callers. The board comes up A74 with all different suites. One of the players bets about 1.1 times the amount of the pot. I fold. The other player calls. The turn comes 9. Then the river comes a 2. That player bets the size of the pot. The other player calls and wins with pockets jacks. The bettor turns over Q10. At that point, I am fuming because I just got bluffed out of pocket kings. I get pocket queens. The flop comes up A95 with two cards of the same suit. This same player that bluffed me last time bets about 1 1/2 times the size of the pot. I am thinking that I am not going to allow this player to bully me. I raise the size of the pot and we end up getting into a raising war. The player turns over two pair showing me A9 and my hand doesn’t improve, and I lose my entire chip stack. What did I do wrong?

I'm a 16 year old highschool student who plays on SWC for 4 hours a day on average after school and way more on weekends. Been doing this for about a year now, and am hoping to build up the work ethic to become a pro poker player when I am able to play at casinos. edit: I have disregarded all of the responsible and reasonable advice from the adults in my life and I am currently crushing NL25 online. I regret nothing.

Don't. Apply that work ethic to something else and build a normal career. You'll almost certainly make more money doing that and you'll have the financial freedom and time to play in your spare time. The bad sessions and the bad beats aren't that devastating when you have a good paying job to fall back on.

A big mistake I did early on was to play too much without studying. The amount of study you need to put in to win any money at all is significant. You should probably study more than you actually play in the beginning.

No coach will ever tell you to study more than you play, that's ridiculous. You need volume and consistency. You don't get that by studying 6 hrs and playing 2 hrs. You're gonna be thinking miles ahead of any micro stakes player and losing.

Hey I can the tell you away everybody is u loses at online poker and that is this number generator this is also why people think that the game is hacked but it's because it uses a thing calld deterministics in the program to be able to have indeterminate causes and these are in relation to chance and they are the things you call variance this what the number generator s are programmed to do and it's contradictory to this kind of program and you'll get beat full House over flush for times in one day and what's the odds of that happening this is where I'm at in my life in poker determination it's my problem I suppose but why do they call it random and generator when you get 6 2 over and over again t or an onslaught of Jack's in every hand and it's hard to bluff every time you want when there's a full tab so Black rain 79 I'm a player that needs to have the upper hand or advantage somehow and so how do you achieve this I know equity is the cure to variance that was my guess what is yours

They lose guys they listen to nooblets like this guy. Im up 100k since 2001. I lost a bunch in the beginning but then started crushing 2003.2012. It was so easy back then,. Now GTO, theory, advantage poker, exploitive poker, poker bots pretty much make the game harder to win at. The best players have more gamble in their game preflop. Once the flop comes, the best players can over run a weaker player in the long run. Find the weakest tableand stay at it. Avoid the better table.

I can tell you that your tips are not working as helpful as they are! I've been watching the same people night after night play any 2 cards and constantly win! Anytime you raise or reraise they just force you all in! If you try to float they force you all in every hand! I watch them take at least$400 a night! They stay for about a month then a new wave comes in! Usually about 4 players! Its happening for 3 weeks now again! Thay get $50min per table on .05/.10 abd they play all available tables!
