They seem to be between 30 and 60 dollars. I just checked, I had never seen this brand before. Despite being a “fashion-forward blue collar” guy 😅 I think these are cheap though. If your other pairs of shoes are boots, maybe a work and a “dress” pair, that cost between $200 and $300, these are cheap. I just went to buy a pair of classic topsiders, like I used to wear when I was a sailor, and they’re over $100 now at Macys!

I've been through 3 pairs of Hey Dude shoes dating back to ~2012ish. The first two pair absolutely had cork in the insole which is part of the reason I loved them. The third pair didn't have a gram of cork in the insole and definitely had a different feel and I haven't bought a pair since. I still like the style but I don't wear these types of shoes for style, I wear them for comfort around the house, for driving, and short walks to a store. Now I'm wearing Sketchers Go Walk as a replacement for the OG Hey Dudes.

I’m becoming much more concerned about a factor other than the materials and construction of my boots and shoes. That’s the part about who’s making them, the work environment they have, and how much they are paid for their labor relative to the selling price of the shoes. I’m particularly grateful for your reviews that include some clips of shoes and boots being made, and a bit about the companies producing them. Thank you for this awesome channel.

Same here, especially with stuff made in china, if its fabric theres a decent chance that the material wasnt just produced in a sweat shop, or even with normal slave labor but in a concentration camp where they use r*pe as a form of torture and harvest peoples organs, the thought of buying clothes that use fabric from such awful places or even propping up the economy of a country that does that makes me feel awful, im sticking to buying stuff from thriftshops or made in a country ground up with good labor practices and nice materials

Your best bet then would be to go with small brands built in north america. Factories in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico all widely range in terms of quality of work, life etc for their workers. Most big brands make sure that the factories they work with are on the up and up but sometimes thing get through. Apple builds all their phones with foxxconn - the biggest tech factories in China and despite the high quality of worker, tech know how and such the living conditions, hours and pay could def be way better - that is a trillion dollar company that could afford to make their manufacturing better but do not. For clothes and shoes - it is generally a bit worse.

You can have both, it just takes a good deal of searching. Partially unlike the comment above, any first world country is a good place to start, and secondary would be any company that is fully open about every aspect of their manufacturing.

@@corail53Unsurprisingly, even the "Big Brands" that say they're on the up-and-up almost never are. There's a whole system that makes it impossible to properly audit the factories the brands contract with if they're not in the US. The Auditors are only ever hired by the factory owners, which incentivizes them to overlook problems. The people that work there may be in terrible conditions. But that just means they don't have any better options. Speaking up puts a target on their back and they lose the only job they have access to if they try to whistleblow. You're right about buying stuff from the US whenever possible. But that costs way more. Capitalism is truly awful. It's way too easy to outsource suffering and poverty if we don't personally have to see it and it saves us a few bucks. RIP to everyone I guess. It's garbage all the way down

I bought a pair of Hey Dude shoes a few months ago when T-Mobile had a huge discount offer on them. They are really comfortable for walking around inside the house. I agree with your method for tying the laces. Unfortunately I find them flimsy and unsafe for use outside on the streets. You can feel the smallest pebble poke your feet through the sole. The inner lining is already coming apart. Great as house shoes/ slippers. Not worth $60. I’m glad I bought them at a highly discounted price. I’d probably buy another pair if I could get the same deal as before. I think it was 60% off.

I really love my hey dudes. I have the cream colored ones with a leather topped removable insole is by far my favorite insole. I think its the foam its on too. Its practically molded to my foot and feels really goof on my foot. Their sole is also pretty good on slick surfaces. I tried sketchers version but theyre so stuck on "memory foam" and gluing their insole to the midsole and theyre so slippery on any semi smooth surface unlike the hey dudes.

As a fairly wide-footer I can completely agree it's all about the upper. That makes or breaks the sneaker for me. Those 270s don't hurt even though it looks like they would, because of all the breathable mesh. I definitely get why the Hey Dude upper would be appealing comfort-wise. These grey ones just look like rebranded knit boat shoes, but some of what they offer are up there with the ugliest around.

Discontinued? Damn. I am on my second pair of Santa Cruz, and i love that shoe so much. My first pair had that frayed moc toe that i wasn´t a fan of, but the Santa Cruz 2 is a perfect summer shoe. Light, soft, easy to put on, no laces, breathable, machine washable. And it also cost me $60. I´ve worn it every day from may to september the last 3 years - in the city, to the beach, even on light hikes. I can get it soaking wet, the upper is just a thin canvas, it dries really fast. I should really stock up on them, i checked, retailers still have some pairs left.

I’m late to the party, but I’m on my second pair in three years, and I honestly love them for work shoes. I work in a hotel, real low impact, standing for 8 hours. After a week or so, the heel drops enough that the foot slide wasn't an issue, but it certainly exists at first. The loose weave of the upper makes for a very comfy, well ventilated long term shoe. The insole, while comfortable at first, quickly becomes useless. I’ve found a flat “odor masking” insole works better. As for tying them, the best method Ive found is to take the cone, wrap it down, behind, and back up through itself on the inner side of the tongue bit, and tuck the cone into the corner. The coneorner. For everyday wear outside of a controlled environment, I’m likely to pick a more robust shoe, but summer months these are second to being barefoot or in flipflops. I did use my original pair, out of necessity, through winter 22-23, and they held up surprisingly well. After watching a few of your videos following the ranger boots, I was curious to see what you thought of what is soon becoming my favorite shoe.

I have worked for HD for 3 years (pre- and post-crocs). There are several styles with cork insoles. Most have the leather insole. The cork insoles will be available for sale on the website in 2024. The correct way to tie the shoes is to not tie them at all. The HD outsole is not the same as the Crocs outsole.

i had those shoes back in like 2015 before anybody else around had seen or heard about them. randomly found them on woot for like $30 and figured what the hell and gave them a try. everyone gave me so much shit for wearing them lol they were so comfy though, and easy to slip on and off. i wore them for years before they got too nasty and i had to ditch them. i remember when i started seeing them in stores in like 2019 and thought it was funny they were starting to catch on. im quite the trendsetter. or unfashionable cheapskate who enjoyed a deal at the cost of fashion.... either way, not bad shoes for casual wear.

Agree but their construction has taken a nosedive in the last few years. The pair I purchased in 2016 versus the pair I got about a year ago are night and day. Thinner leather, worse stitching, awful paltry (GLUED) insole, just bad. Not nearly as comfortable. Still wear em a bunch because they cost $$$ but it’s very disheartening. Might pick up a vintage pair next time.

@@stevemcgowenWhat a stupid and ignorant comment. First you ignore the video, which has an actual review including the materials, and instead talk about how the shoes “look” to you, as if any body should care about your uninformed opinion. Then you make a stupid comment lumping all Americans and American cities together into a stereotype that was never particularly true. The average American walks around 1-2 miles per day, more than the 800m walked by the Dutch, and less than the 2-3 miles walked by the Japanese. Of course, if you live in rural areas or highly urban ones, that number increases drastically-as it does in every other country.

They are basically unknown (yet) in France, but they are on Amazon ; bought a pair after your enthusiastic review, and I love them ! A lot of people have asked what they are, and I basically answer : Crocs for grown ups. Perfect for the summer, I chose the red canvas seen in your videos. What surprised me most is how well they fit me, as I've very thin feet for a man and I usually avoid mocs because they're always way too large and they slip off my feet when I walk. But not these shoes, they adapt very well thanks to the stretchiness of the fabric.
@willbearheart7919
@willbearheart7919 13 күн бұрын
"Crocs for grownups" is a bs description for a cheaply made shoe that isn't anywhere near as versatile as crocs. And this is coming from a man who wouldn't be caught dead wearing crocs.
@ordinosaurs
@ordinosaurs 13 күн бұрын
@@willbearheart7919 : they are not "cheaply" made ; I've worn them everywhere since I bought them, rotating with Converse and other shoes this winter and they don't show any sign of wear, either in the fabric or the sole, while the Converse have been trashed months ago (split fabric, worn rubber under the heel). Granted, Converse leave a lot to be desired, but they're in the same price range. I'm in fact amazed how strong the Hey Dudes are. Now you may not agree with my description, but they look better than Crocs, the care is the same (washing machine when dirty), and they're, in my experience, as durable.

I really appreciate the backstory/history you give on these companies. As for the Hey Dudes themselves...meh. Don't get me wrong, I see tons of men, women, and children in them daily here in the Midwest (especially now being warmer weather). But I agree they certainly serve their purpose as decently comfortable for the cheap price shoes, and they come in seemingly dozens of styles (if that's the right term?). I also already own ~6pr of Crocs so really why would I buy these that aren't all waterproof or as comfortable? One last thing: as far as comfort goes, the only time I actually tried some on, I happened to be wearing my felt Highlanders from KEEN. Maybe it's just because I'm on the heavy side, or my fairly flat feet, or just the orthotic insole, but there was absolutely no comparison-the KEENs are leaps and bounds more comfortable than these. And I'll put money on them being more durable too. I love those KEENs so much, I found 2 more pair (on clearance too which made them cheaper than the Hey Dudes).

Recently bought my first pair. I'm impressed by the comfort and leather removable insole but the outsole has worn slick in only 2 months of localized wear only after work and around town. I've thought about buying something else built better for longevity and comfort. Because, as we all know, it's hard to have comfort and serious durability and longevity without really long break in periods. Idk if I'll buy these again (I just can't get over how comfortable they are but how little time they last) or try the Jim Green African Rangers as an after work errand shoe to get out of my work boots.

I got these as a gift around 5 years ago. I didn't understand why the toe box looked roomy but felt average and slammed my feet forward. That incline is the reason. The heel ended up constantly collapsing from me slipping them on and the foam was too soft causing foot problems (along with uncomfortable toes). Would really like something closet to a zero drop with half as much foam then I'd consider these again
