I'm a huge fan of David Fincher and his filmography is something I come back to time and time again. Love or hate _Fight Club_ and its messaging, it's from an era where films just felt more impactful and lasting. It still has one of the best cinema twists of all time, no question.

I was 19 in 2010s when I saw this movie. It was very fresh ideas at the time of shedding vapid consumerism and call to fighting to satiate a primal need was very fascinating at the time.

I saw Fight Club when I was about 17. I didn’t fully grasp the satire at the time, but I also didn’t then and do not now understand the idolization of Tyler Durden. I found his nihilistic attitude deeply off putting. He struck me as a violent and reckless guy spouting high minded sounding bs to justify his destructive behavior including essentially starting a cult. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to be like him. Minus the physique of course.

Im 19, 20 in a month roughly. I watched ***** **** when i was 16 maybe? Or 15 idrk. My key takeaways from it back then were that 1) consumerism bad 2) stop self improvement and live in the moment cause nothing really matters in the end anyway, and you're doing self improvement to make yourself feel good in the moment which might not even ultimately matter. Ofc id interpret it differently if i watched it now. Right now i really have passions and some of that are a bit consumer-ish, and i think its fine to engage in as long as you're not falling into the trap of conspicuous consumption, but just doing it, generally, for yourself

I watched fight club a few months ago and I’ve just turned 20 but the way I interpreted it was that I shouldn’t fall into the trap of buying things for buying sake which I didn’t realise I really did until this film. I also left watching it with a desire to get out more and do more things socially which I’m starting to do. I definitely did not agree with the nihilism Tyler Durden viewed the world with though.

well, i think you didn't understand the 'self improvement is mastrubation' part. for my understanding this means: face your real problems, instead of following every self improvement advise that you don't even need. and by 'self destruction' he means the process of breaking down the problem to something that is really improving your life. short: don't follow every trend, just focus on the problems that really need to be fixed

You didn't understand "self improvement is masturbation, now self destruction". What they mean is no half measures. It's impossible to improve some aspects of your character. Destroying aspects of your character and creating new habits is the only way.

As a 21 year old I just recently watch this movie the first time. It has blown me away. One of my new favorite movies of all time. I think Tyler’s speech about being the “middle generation of history” resonated with me the most. It was true for generations x and millennials and unfortunately it’s still true for Gen Z.

1. Fight is metaphorical, as is the whole movie. Fight means fighting for something and some reason. 2. Having scars I would understand as having some adventures, stories to tell or to carry to the grave. Being brave and doing something crazy.. ... 5. There is a deeper meaning, from or similar to some philosophy. Means facing our fears, hit rock bottom, destruction before reconstruction rather than some fluffy cover up. Surely, you can find a better explanation here on KZbin. One of the best movies ever made. Multiple meanings or meaningless. It's the beauty of it...

The younger generations will need therapy after watching Fight Club. They'll have PTSD from watching all the "toxic masculinity" and "misogyny".

Actually, I think it’ll help them identify that all these current day social media keyboard warriors are just cosplaying Tyler Durden, but aren’t the strong men they pretend to be. They’ll be able to walk away thinking well this would almost be cute if it wasn’t sad

This broke down the superficial stage props of a story and completely missed the point of the film. It’s about every man’s struggle with and ultimate unification of his innate dichotomy. It’s about resolving the yin and yang inherent in every male. It’s not about pants and fist fights.
@BrockMcGoff3 ай бұрын
I agree that a lost or ill-defined sense of masculinity is a big theme of the story, but not the entire point.
