Hi everyone. This video is a few years old now, and I still get comments on this video and other videos from 2013-15, from people asking me to draw their MLP OC. I am a self employed freelance artist. I don't just make MLP stuff. If you are interested in a commission, visit my main youtube page and watch my trailer video. That has all the information you need about how to get a commission. Please do not ask for a drawing in the youtube comments.

The logo is bold, the colors are slick, and the pony as a whole conveys the essence of your culture beautifully. It's fascinating...a lot of the things you outlined in this video is eerily similar to the process I went through when designing my OC. Great minds think alike ^_^! I agree about people who think they can't draw. I get really tired of hearing people say "I can't draw." Start any activity with the notion "I can't" and you'll fail before you even start. Skill is learned, and all it takes is effort to get there. People who become artists aren't inherently better at it than other people (prodigies not-with-standing), we just have so much passion about drawing that we do it obsessively until we get good. I'm not a prodigy. My five year old art looked like any other five year old's scribblings. I just loved making those scribblings so much, that I never stopped. When people see my work, they think I have some kind of magical, inborn talent. I don't. I learned to draw, just like anyone learns anything and you can learn to draw, too.
@nathanprice61899 жыл бұрын
+Siara Hughes I disagree at a point sure you can have people work at it and learn a skill but talent is different. For an example I can play the piano I learned a skill, but can I create a master piece? no I can't. Same with drawing I can learn how to draw but I can't learn to be good. Now you could say "art is subjective and what's good to you could be bad to someone else" now I say art has defining parameters and personal opinion is not part of it. What we think doesn't change the parameters of the subject.
@nathanprice61899 жыл бұрын
sorry if I miss read you comment and I like the word parameters it's a math phrase it worked with my whole defining message I didn't think it was too far out there, but I still stand by what I said art has rules because art can be defined. if something doesn't have parameters (rules) than it doesn't existed. to quote the Incredibles "when everyone is super no one will be" same with art if everything is art nothing is only when we defined it we give it meaning. sure there are different forms of art but they have there own parameters defining what is that form of art and each of those forms have there own conditions of what is good. now you could make a case that art is reality but that is stretching it. plus if you did we would be having a different conversation.

yeah. literally 1 year ago I had shit. the anatomy didn't work, the hair was weird, and the eyes would stare into your soul. now if you know me in real life the only real trouble I'm having is getting arms to bend and how to draw feet. I'm way better now because I PRACTICED. I draw every single day. for hours on end. it took a year and still needs work, but this is an example. PEOPLE CAN DRAW.

I am so glad I am not the only one that likes to say my OC is an actual breed of horse instead of just identifying it as a typical pegasus. I live in southeast Missouri all the way back in the United States. We have two state animals, the Mule and the Missouri Fox Trotter. I like to say that my OC is mostly Fox Trotter but she has Mule deep down in her family tree.
@Kirala_TTok10 жыл бұрын
hey um..... mules cant have kids...at all.. she cant have a mule in her family tree cause mules can come from any family but cant make a family.
@vincetravis870110 жыл бұрын
Queen Kitsunae I've always heard that almost all mules were female. (kind of like calico cats) and that those mules were bred with horses, they weren't exactly "100% mule" but I would still count it as a mule because it was still a donkey + horse mix. In fact, what we might call mules might be hinnies to you.
@Kirala_TTok10 жыл бұрын
Nut Kase I have a male mule... Mules comes from a donkey breeding a horse. And a hinny comes from a Horse breeding a donkey. NO MULES OR HINNIES can have babies. They have 63 chromozones. Meaning they ar einfertile. A mule is a mule. You cant have a half breed mule. Cause to have a half breed mule that means a mule would have to breed something else and have a baby. As ive said before..MULES CANT BREED NEITHOR CAN HINNIES. PS. i have 1 regulare size female mule. One mamath mule and one minature hinny. I know my shit.

Okay, so.. I want to make an oc but idk where to start....what should i start off doing? "What's unique about your country?" Um...i don't know...We....like...extreme stuff?? "what do you like most about your heritage?" I don't know... "You're family?" Um, well... "What are your interests?" Art, doctor who, music, my little pony, idk, a lot of stuff. "Write ALL of this down before you draw ANYTHING." But why? I don't know anything about my heritage, and how do my family and my country relate to making my pony oc? "what kind of personality are you?" Uh.. "what kinds of colors and shapes do you like?" Blue and yellow and really bright colors, and i guess...all shapes? idk?
@midnightmelody321510 жыл бұрын
Well, you don't really need the stuff about your heritage for the visuals if you're not really sure about it. In my opinion it just helps me with a backstory and a few traits. My family isn't really a big part of my life (other than giving me depression :P), so I skipped that. Your interests can help with the name of your oc and its cutie mark, for example my OC went through the names Midnight Melody, Crazy Eights, and Jack O' Lantern (aka Jack) before deciding on Blazing Sketch. Each of these names is based on a different special interest of mine. If you're unsure about your personality, don't hesitate to ask someone! This is a crucial part of both the aesthetics and personality of your oc. For example, brighter, warmer colors can suggest (although not always) a more lighthearted, funny, and less mature character, while darker and colder colors can suggest a more serious and mature character. Hope this helped!

@Gnefitisis10 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem I have with your arguments is that I disagree that everyone can draw "well." If everyone can draw and most people can learn through practice; then (using your argument), I could say that everyone can do molecular biology. I hope you can see the problem with your argument, since you contradict yourself with the very CRUX of your argument- time. I am a professional and do not have that TIME needed to learn to draw cartoon characters, as well, could I hardly even begin to sketch a diagram of any pony without a reference. Yes, I agree with your premise that practice is all that is necessary; yet, you assume that all could learn to since all must have that time. Why else is everyone else not an artist, though society and all people would surely benefit from being them?- different prerogatives. Otherwise, nice video.
@MadMunchkin10 жыл бұрын
I say that it takes time AND training. It also takes you to be positive and have faith in yourself. I hate it when people say they can't do something when they've never even tried to. You have misunderstood me. These videos are here to encourage others to try to be creative and develop. 'Not everyone can be a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere.' Is the quote I use in the video. It means that regardless of who you are and where you came from, if you are fearless and just give it a go, you never know what you can achieve. Practice is not all that is necessary. I never said that.
@shawnfady352910 жыл бұрын
u can learn anything if u take the time and effort to actually learn it
@Gnefitisis10 жыл бұрын
Is practice not time and training though? I am not trying to dismiss that anyone can be creative though, only that I know without committing time I would not be able to learn to draw so.

When you talked about finding mistakes in your old design, I began to draw parallels between you with your OC, and me with my logo (my channel profile pic). I originally made the Face on Fire!! logo in MS Paint (and it shows) completely out of boredom. Later on, I began drawing the logo by hand and started subtly tweaking it here and there. I kinda figured you based a bit of you oc off of those two kinds of horses. Like, when I saw the mane, it reminded me of the Shetland pony and the hooves did sorta bring the Clydesdale to mind but I really like to focus on the mane for a number of reasons. One, I love seeing how creative artists can get when creating a mane. I have seen a Pegasus with princess cadence's hairstyle or should I say manestlye. I dunno. Also, people can get really creative with the colors. Your mane color is one of my favorite shades of blue. I don't know. Maybe I am but that is how I think.

I'm glad someone else has put so much thought into their OC! I love symbolism and honestly, my OC's cutie mark is more complicated than most when speaking of design. Her cutie mark is a love ball (type of poke`ball) with six purple hearts around it. I chose the love ball because of it's colors and the fact that it was designed to be better at catching Poke`mon of the opposite gender of the one you were using, but it actually did just the opposite! I thought that was very funny considering how religious my family is and how I had always been told being gay was wrong, but I turned out bi! lol I also love Poke`mon and it has always been my escape from reality and I know a lot about it. I chose the purple hearts both because they're symbols or love and the purple is a symbol of courage, which I've had to have a lot of to make it through my life! And putting the love ball and hearts together, they are both symbols of love, which, to me, is the single most important thing in life. The hearts radiate off of the love ball, like a loving aura or energy, which I hope to have. I also chose the number six because it's even and looks good around the love ball and because it is a number that is "incomplete". I am incomplete without my fiance` and there is always room for improvement in everything. Nothing is ever finished, but will always continue in one way or another. :)

Very interesting video and OC, I've watched some of your stuff and now I think it's time that I made some edits to my OC's story, I mainly develop stories through RP with friends to have an interesting story. (My friends are a little interesting to say the least....) Anyway, thank you for the lessons on creating a good character, keep on being awesome! *Bro-hoof*

The biggest problem I had with designing my cutie mark was that I have more than one talent. It was so hard to put them all together into one single shape. But I have finally figured it out how to put them in one image. After I found out how a cutie mark is not only a ponies talent, but her/his destiny, it suddenly occurred to me to ask myself what my destiny was. Of course... well it actually took me a while. In trying to find the perfect cutie mark, I explored myself a bit, and it lead to many things that I have discovered about myself. I can't really explain how my cutie mark came to be, it was like a light that came on in my head. I had found out more about myself looking for the perfect characteristic to add to my character than anything else.

That's very cool of you to put as much as your Scottish cloture in your pony OC I try to put my Canadian cloture within my pony OC and try to represent who I am and what makes me myself and uniq You make your self uniq because of who you are and where you come from and I get where your coming from and I strongly agree with you in this video

My pony OC is a unicorn named Moonrose Mariposa. She seems cold and distant when you first meet her, but when she warms up to you and you get to know her she is a warm talkative pony. She enjoys reading and video games. She loves learning new things that she never knew before and telling these new discoveries to others who haven't heard it. Her favorite creature is the butterfly and has a pet cat. Her cutie mark is a butterfly overlaying a full moon

Actually, if an artist thinks they haven't reached their goal, such as artists who say they can't draw, then they are still a great artist growing, according to psychology

I don't exactly have a cutie mark planned for my ponysona... I like to draw myself as various animals with five colors in mind: Sky blue, Grass green, Ocean blue, Red, & white. Sky/light blue as the main color & the rest for details. I can't think of a cutie mark because I like so many things. For example, I like paleontology, biology, ponies, the ocean, games, & even Wild Kratts. I guess I could have a prism, because I often go by (on other sites) as RainPrism (even though Google won't let me). But even THAT is obselete because so many ponies already have rainbow themed designs. (Plus, i'm a hippocampus).

The thistle, the shamrock, and the rose. One of the sentences in the Maple Leaf Forever poem which was considered to be the anthem for my country but was changed later for political reasons. If you have not guessed it yet it is Canadian which many of us Canadians have mutual respect to the British Isles and the unique differences of the British, Scottish, and Irish. Most of the first settlers did come from that region into Canada and even the United States. I also can see the thistle being a major aspect of Munchkins OC as I am quite the nationalist myself. I even pay tribute to the Canadian Anglo roots as I am an aspiring historian.
