Looks promising. It's difficult to not become the thing you don't want to be if you've employees. The best way to handle this is to make him really comfortable in his position and yourself also. If you have that "boss" position you'll always be seen like that I believe. No matter how good the relationship is. I've been struggling with this subject myself. How can we change the working culture and authority to more of a truly independent and intrinsic motivation kind of job. Maybe the job is not the right word, maybe it should be pronounced like a thing you sincerely like to do. It can be a hobby but's not truly a hobby. Any ideas?

He routinely went beyond the scope of his duties and always answered the phone to come in on his days off (when others called in "sick"). He constantly complained that he was tired. He stopped hanging out with family/friends because he was either always at work or was sleeping because he just got off of work. After eight years you know what this got him? Just minimum wage. Oh and his boss started acting like all those extra duties my brother VOLUNTARILY took on was now his job. But no he wouldn't get a raise because of it. That was like me. I worked as a amansger for a restaurant. I kept the place together when COVID hit, when we lost that manager, their boss, *and* their boss's boss. In spite of all that, my location was one of the only profitable units in the territory. I worked 65 to 80 hours because the previous manager did fuck all, they told me I was costing them... no the previous manager cost them, they're just now getting the bill. And they brought in someone else to take the manager's job. Refused to give me a raise while giving someone else 2 raises and a promotion because he threatened to quit. When I lightly remind them that I can do the same, they do nothing to keep my but beg me to stay. Then when I leave because I had to endure slurs behind my back, no only did they protect that person, but they screw me over on my earned benefits.... which I was told was the reason they didn't want to let that person go. *They couldn't even spell 'cheese' correctly.*

I’m not trying the climb the ladder, I never thought that was a way I want it to go in my life anyway I never understood how people could just in the same job for years and be OK with it. Especially when they’re always saying I wish I wanted to do so wish I would’ve did that, I’m pretty much on that path because I’ve been at my job for 7 years and haven’t figured out what differences I want for my life and how to ask for them.
@SCP-001DatabaseAdministrator3 жыл бұрын
If you hate the job, why don't you take the promotion? Lol. The definition of success doesn't include declining pay to stay in the same place. He said decline pay if it helps you move towards where you want your life to be.

You can take the promotion and use it to get another job. You being in the same position isn't going to give you any benefit

Josh, it’s such a good idea to pass on your knowledge and your entrepreneurial spirit to someone else. I at 62 with years of high level corporate jobs . Yet learned so much from you. Too bad it’s just when I’m retiring as no one wants a 62 year old former Nurse exec. I know I in part cannot work out in the corporate world anymore. I’m broken. I hate the BS, let’s have eating contests, play stupid team building games. I also refuse to attend drunken Christmas parties. I’m just not that much fun. I work hard, get the job done. I don’t need to be the fun gal. I’m a nice loving person, I have given those in need at work clothes, housewares you name it, but no games. I arrive early, but leave promptly for sure. But for now I’m at home. I totally agree with you. I was so “loyal” and worked my ass of. But to no avail. As soon as my salary began to rise it was “fire her and replace with cheaper”.

The thing about you Josh, you always had the drive but hadn't figured out a plan, or the structure to build around it. In the last couple years you figured out both of those things. That's people's biggest problem, not having the discipline to create the structure and maintain it. Essentially, you are mentoring people on how to accomplish both things. THAT is why you're approaching half a million subs.

“Corporate Alumni” is now part of my vocabulary. Someday, I’m going to sit down & write you a rambling email about our similar experiences, 20 years apart. Disengaged? Ya. The moment I saw MY WORK on a large screen with someone else’s name on it. I’m a “purple girl”, so I like to use colors in my spreadsheets. THEY DIDN’T EVEN CHANGE THE COLORS OR FONTS. Disengage. I was written up for “sneaking around doing work”. I was written up for wearing boots with heels walking from the parking lot to my desk. At the time, I was in my mid-40s, and I can assure you I can successfully walk in 4” heels, snow or no snow. When they fired me, they said they didn’t have to tell me why & weren’t going to. Yes, it’s all legal in NYS. I’ve checked. It was at least 5 years ago & Im still damaged. Sorry, rambled on a bit anyway. I wish this was the only- or worst- company I’ve encountered as an employee, but it isn’t. If you get this far in my comment, YAY ME! I’m dying to know where you fall on the Meyers-Briggs scale.

How can i be exited about a project and feel responsible for it if i cant even manage my own time! I can already hear the boomer boss say "i pay your salary so that is MY time". Then they wonder why you're not focused on the project. **facepalm**
@_L.R.3 жыл бұрын
It’s even worse! Most of the times-especially in corporate environments-boomer bosses don’t even pay your salary! It’s just their “delusions of grandeur”… they’re only ONE step farther up in the so-called “corporate ladder”. The people who actually pay your salary are the company’s stockholders-and middle managers rarely hold any stock. Plus, stockholders are result-oriented, which means that long as you help them to profit, they couldn’t care less about how, where or when you do your job.

We don’t owe them anything just as they don’t owe us anything. We are living in a time of awakening where people are slowly standing up for their own values against money control from corporations. Just like narcissists and psychopaths seek to rule and control you with their money, it’s the same with corporations and government. No wonder why top executives and powerful politicians are mostly narcissists and psychopaths

Bro I just want to say that your videos are doing a huge help for us black sheeps who are tired of corporate/working bullshit alongside the ridiculous expectations of society, labelling as "lazy", "entitled", "non serious", "not matured enough" and all that. In the sea of toxic people that I have around me, family, relatives, acquaintances, you remind me to not give a fuck what they say and just live my own life. I dont have a good support system yet, it's pandemic, I gotta isolate, so to find out people like you who share the same perspectives and successfully navigating through life without being a conformist, it inspires me. I'm definitely not eloquent in any language at all lol (and was even hesitating to leave a comment), so to hear my thoughts out loud through your videos, I feel like I'm being heard and I feel like someone is standing for me. I work in IT too btw so I relate to many of the vids on a personal level. Tldr; thank you for what you do. Continue making these because they inspire people such as my lost self.

You are spot on with what you say. Don't give up your lives to a company. Don't let them abuse you. This company will throw you out at a moments notice and really has no loyalty to you. Work no more than 9-5, mon-fri not a minute more which is really what is humanely ethical and should be the law anyway and don't kill yourself with trying to meet an impossible deadline or do superhuman things. Work needs to have reasonable goals, reasonable pace and time allotments.

Love this rant. It's got a bit of everything and it all rings true to my experiences. With the exception being that I am someone who sees working in an office as a chance to get paid to hone skills and learn. If I'm not doing that, then it's not a job worth having. I'm excited to hit enough savings to last me a full year of minimalist city living though. I can start building my own online business with room for small catastrophes along the way. 2D Painting/Animation services while gaining education on C# for learning web design and Unity in 2022. It's ridiculous I work in a place where all this sort of knowledge is available but everyone's worked down to the knuckles so much, it'd practically be unethical on my part to ask for their attention.
