Why Is Everything Chrome?

Chrome took off the moment it was released in 2008. But why is everything now based on Chrome? Internet Explorer was the biggest browser but not everything was based on it...

There's also the servo project by the linux foundation, it was the fastest browser like 10 years ago, now it's kind of lagging behind but now it's getting attention

The thing with Brave is that it is different enough from chrome that it could be considered a soft fork. There are many feature in chrome that brave doesn't use and it has its own ad blocker engine written in rust.

I use Brave (for now lol) and you are right it is pretty different (and better) than Chrome. But its base still comes from Chromium which is what I was trying show. Totally understand what you are saying though thank you 🙏

Chromium is very easy to use and implement compared to Gecko Many people describe Chromium as a whole but its more like a toolbox where you can just take parts of it

Mozilla is straight up *not allowed* to use a decent web engine on iOS, they're forced to use Safari's

Chrome was not the first to have extensions I was using extensions in Firefox before chrome existed! Unless chrome was down a back Alley somewhere?

Im not very hyped about Ladybird since it will only release its ALPHA in 2026 if everything goes according to plan Thats an eternity for an unfinished product which will only be a thing for Linux (good) and macOS around the start

Thats totally valid. I am just a sucker for independent projects so even if it is far away and small I like the idea of it. Plus the main developer posts updates monthly on his KZbin channel of the progress made which is also cool to keep tabs on.

I don't know, chrome runs faster than Firefox for me but I still use Firefox as I prefer it

@@maxrburgess literally anything else lol. I used to use Edge and now I'm using Safari which feels faster. Idk if I'm using chrome wrong but it would take up so much ram and just slow my computer down
