I dont see the difference between a great white and a killer whale. Killer whales need to dive hundreds of feet, and also migrate great distances. Putting them in aquariums or Sea World would be like putting a human in a bathtub. A big bathtub, but a severely limited tank based on their behavior. And NO, I would not go to see it, that is paying people to keep them confined.
@Jackylification5 жыл бұрын
Deb Stein yeah, they swim just as far in the wild. It’s the worst point. Orcas also get depression so that’s a stupid point too. The true reason is that they don’t survive due to their hunting methods. There’s a whole documentary about how they get confused due to differences in electric impulses, that’s why they ram into the tank. She mentions it but it’s pretty much all to do with that.

To all of you crying that aquariums should be illegal, I encourage you to take a little trip. Take a trip to Corpus Christi, Texas. When you get there, visit the Texas State Aquarium. I was just there last weekend. They have an exhibit that is all about their behind the scenes conservation. Wall after wall and photo after photo of injured animals that have been rescued by this aquarium. Criticially endangered animals with gunshot wounds, fishing line wrapped around their throats... on and on. Every one of those animals showcased was rescued, rehabilitated and released, except for a couple that were too injured to survive in the wild. The back wall is this HUGE line of boxes. Each box contains some man-made item that had to be removed from an injured animal. You see all that and realize, without aquariums doing their work, there would be so much less life in the world. You have to look behind the public exhibits. Those are just there to generate the revenue for the science, conservation and preservation. People who get degrees and dedicate their lives to marine mammals and sea life usually end up working in one or two places. Universities... or aquariums. Aquariums don't exist to make money off suffering. Many are non-profit. They exist because a group of people came together with a love of animals and the knowledge to help.
@Cat-zp4vi5 жыл бұрын
That seems to be more of a catch and release or a aquarium that isn't there to please the public eye. What those people seem to be referring to is the ones who have animals to purely please the public (like when they keep Orcas for no reason). If I'm wrong please do correct me
@ariannasilva71675 жыл бұрын
There’s a difference between this aquarium you’re speaking of an sea world where they have 1000+ lb orcas in a puddle of water compared to their natural habitat. And you think they don’t know they are harming the animal? But the profit to be made is too good and when one dies it’s easily replaced. Those are the types of aquariums people are angry about.
@henjoyer5 жыл бұрын
In almost 97% of Australian aquariums have save millions of injured sharks in total! (Idk about other countries) they never appreciate what we have done to help, and insist that we are being cruel to hold animals in captivity. This video is a load of bull crap talking about things that also apply to the orcas at SeaWorld, you see them and by their actions you can tell they are FINE! What is right, the people think is wrong, and they’re too stubborn to realise us helping. Most humans are selfish, money-driven, stubborn creatures than can’t tell the difference between right and wrong. Only the small percentage of us are not. We are nice, we are not. They have to adjust to the world that doesn’t revolve around them.

But Monterey Bay's attempts WERE successful. They acquired a young, small shark, knowing a larger one wouldn't be sustainable in their tank. They were aware that they would be releasing it and not keeping it into it's adulthood. Those 100 days they did the IMPOSSIBLE, something no other aquarium had done. They got it to eat, swim, and live. That's hardly a "failure."

@@lyximoonstar335 so people can learn about them? So we can understand and benifet from their millionss of years of evolution? Possibly so that injured sharks have a place to go so they dont just die when they can no longer live on their own? Do you think before you speak, because i highly doubt it.

I saw 3 of the great whites at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. They were all under 6ft, but they were still more than capable of sending chills down one's spine! I would not say that all of them ended in failure. The one shark that lasted 198 days was actually thriving quite well! They decided to release it because it was growing so fast. It grew almost 2ft in the time it was there! They thought that if it were allowed to get much larger, they would not be able to move it. She would eventually get bored after eating all the other fish and they would have no choice but to call the Fonze to try to jump the tank for her entertainment. (Yes, I realize that many of you won't get that last bit. I'm totally OK with that, because I know that those who do get it are laughing or at least smiling. ;) To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of keeping anything contained, unless, of course, it was injured or sick. The Monterey Aquarium does keep some, but they are well cared for and the tanks give them space to move freely. Recently, they seem to have begun to shift towards more educational presentations than actual animals on parade. The otters are free to come and go into the wild as they wish. The aquarium gives them a safe haven for them to rest, play, eat and raise babies without fear of predators, yet still keeping their knowledge of what lies outside intact to pass to the next generation.

As I was watching this video, I was wondering instead putting the Great White in a aquarium, make a underwater dome where us human in a big glass bubble and watch the Great White that way. Truthfully, I rather see them that way...in the natural life. Also with Ocras, Whales, Dolpins, Seals and other things in the Ocean. If they already have a glass dome, build more.

Miriam L Sage Mazza I work at seaworld and agree that orcas should not be in captivity, and Seaworld’s stopping their orca show soon, they are also stopping the breeding program but they cannot set the orcas free. The chances of the orcas, in captivity at seaworld, surviving in the wild at this point is very low. Although there’s a lot of things that seaworld could be better at doing, they have tons of programs that help the earth and animals that live on it. Just the other week we had a beach clean up for employees and friends to attend. They also rescued tons of hurt animals. If people stop going to seaworld, funding stops for the programs they provide to help animals. Seaworld needs to make changes, I agree but they aren’t all bad.

I'm against circuses. However, if we could create an environment to act as a sanctuary for species that are in danger of dying out, as well as a place for humans to learn and to come to appreciate animals... without causing them to suffer from depression, I see no reason why Zoos and Aquariums shouldn't be a thing. It's just that it is difficult to please everyone. Which makes financing such a costly and time-consuming project difficult. Alas, it shouldn't be about the money, but it is. We'd like to think the world doesn't revolve around money but sadly this is not the case. And so long as we don't have money we can't provide more "humane" ways of housing and studying any animal. Which is a shame.
@facepalmdaily44045 жыл бұрын
Most people who get their degrees and become marine biologists end up working at aquariums. People only see the public face of the organization, but aquariums are really scientific research organizations. The public exhibits are just there to fund the science behind the scenes. Heck...an awful lot of aquariums around the nation are non-profit organizations.

There are places that manage to recreate natural environments with some success they are called safari parks in the UK Longleat is an example of one. The animals are kept in hundreds of acres of countryside where they can roam rather than cages and pens as with zoos. Safari parks are a much more humane way to keep animals compared to zoos which are bad for animals well being.
@jonathansmall62815 жыл бұрын
What if we made an aquarium that opened up to the sea so that random fish, sharks, eels etc can wonder inside and freely leave whenever they want to, at the same time as letting scientists study/track them and letting ppl visit and stuff like that

@chatteyj5 жыл бұрын
@@JBrotsis1 I get it zoos are educational and often provide insurance policies for animals on the brink of extinction in the wild. However I feel some zoo pens are just too small for animals to have any satisfactory sort of life. I think safari parks (such as longleat in the UK) should be replicated across europe and north america as the best way for zoos to develop going forward.

You aren't "supposed" to be able to communicate with people across the world using a magic device you carry in your pocket, but you do. The fuck do you mean none are "supposed to" be there? According to what/who? No, it's not "natural" for them to be in aquariums, but many things are not natural, get over it. I care about the mental state of the creatures in captivity, but it has nothing to do with whether or not they're "supposed" to be there.
@catmagno17165 жыл бұрын
@@Yasha277 Are great white sharks "supposed" to be living in aquariums? That is not their natural habitat. Obviously they will not survive. Animals taken from the wild and placed in captivity is a poor comparison to use of cell phones, for what is "supposed" to be. A cell phone was invented to make communication easier between people. Because people are generally social by nature and like to communicate. Many things are not natural, but humans are the only creatures who cause the destruction and harm of other living creatures, for their own selfish reasons. Not because we need to survive (as in sharks preying on animals) but for mere entertainment. So yes, according to a lot of people, and according to previous attempts to FORCE them to do what is not natural, great white sharks AREN'T supposed to live in aquariums. And they won't live, they will die.

What’s up with humans continuously wanting to keep wild animals in small containers. Leave wild animals alone, they’re called wild animals because they’re WILD AND FREE! Imagine being forced to live in your house and never leave with everything like your air and food being controlled for you....what a horrible, miserable life that would be.

If a great white shark was in the aquarium I would not go there not even like I'm ever going to go there anyway so I'm just going to stay away from aquarium because sharks are scary and if it gets out Imma die not by the shark eating me I'm going to pass out

Stop killing these innocent creatures by putting them in captivity!!!!

They don't seem innocent but no wild animal should be held if they are not kept happy.

So what your saying is that we shouldn't care about humanity and only animals wow. stfu
@Yasha2775 жыл бұрын
The intention was to have them be alive. They wouldn't have done it if they thought they were going to die. It wasn't their intention to be like "LUL LET'S SPEND SHIT LOADS OF MONEY SO WE CAN PUT A SHARK IN A TANK AND WATCH IT DIE!"

Orfea Cool Im not stupid, Im just saying no fish should spend their whole lite in an aquarium when they could be free in the ocean living a lite they deserve in their natural habitat :) Im not stupid I just have an opinion, no need to go crazy with your anger issues
@orffieraku20946 жыл бұрын
ok let's release all the fish in the ocean and we go swimming and get jumped by fish
@tovajohansson51246 жыл бұрын
Orfea Cool yea! the fish would not swim in to land anyway so there is realy nothing to worry about, us human are such egoists who doesnt care about other living creatures that walked on this earth before us :) Whe should treat them with respect
