I have an Invicta I bought as a knockaround watch while I was on a Mediterranean cruise last spring. I did not expect to like it as much as I did, but it's the watch I was wearing through Pompeii, which my son said was something he was looking forward to from the moment we told him about it. So now I have a $50 watch that I can look at and smile because whether he knows it or not, that watch captured a moment my kids and I did something historical and pretty extraordinary together.

Watch collecting is a journey to know an aspect of yourself and how the watch makes you feel. It's certainly not a cheap hobby for most of us (certainly it has not been for me) but that still doesn't mean simply spending more leads to a better collection or more happiness. That can only be done by knowing yourself and what speaks to you and fits your life

There are 2 watches I have that give that feeling. The first is a Fossil Coachman, seen by most as garbage or not a real watch. But when it is a gift from your fiance on the morning of your wedding, that watch holds more value than anything. The second is a casio mudman just like yours. Another gift from my wife as I trained to join the military. Memories and moments are far more valuable than the price tag. Great video!!

TGV, I really appreciate this video. I keep between 6-10 watches and they are all under 200. I would love more expensive watches but I know that right now I cannot afford them. It doesn't mean that I don't appreciate them, they are just not something I can seriously consider. The watches that I enjoy the most are my Casio Duros and my Timex Expedition. Many people complain about how loud the ticking is on the scout model, but I actually love that, every time I hear it tick it reminds me that time is passing by and I shouldn’t be losing any.

Couldn't agree more! It offers the perfect price-to-performance ratio for Casio watches. It similar to how I feel about my Frogman GW-200. It's titanium, ISO-rated, and the perfect size. It's still going strong 23 years later! No one thinks twice when they see it, it's like an old, reliable, overbuilt Toyota Land Cruiser. The joy I feel every time I look down at my wrist and see it still working perfectly, no matter what I put it through, is something I don't experience with any other watch or item I own. I remember when you first brought up the DW-290 on the channel, what a find. I bought one not long after and my wife ended up basically making it her own! She was working back of house in a restaurant at the time, and this watch could handle the beating that came along with that. I bought another one shortly thereafter. I so identify with that. My first serious watch was a Newmark sports watch which I goy in 1965. I was eleven and my late Aunt/Godmother bought it to me. It shone out like a beacon in the jeweller's window and every other watch paled into insignificance. She even sprung for an Expandro rally bracelet in lieu of the leather strap. Sadly it doesn't work anymore despite several frutless attempts to have it repaired. But it sits front and centre in my watch collection, the Father of them all. And I STILL wear an Expandro bracelet on my watch to this day!

Great video, TGV! The simple things indeed. I had a heart attack ten days ago which would have been much worse if I hadn't been a fit 77 year old. I'll soon be back to my walking, climbing and my art but it's reinforced what I already knew in that it's family, friends and health which are the only things that REALLY matter . . . to me anyway. That said, my everyday watch (a 1996 Seiko Kinetic 200 diver) which I wore all the way through my procedure now has even more sentimental value over its being the watch I've worn for all the days spent in the mountains with my kids.

Watches tell a lot about your personality and experiences, as they are at best very personal instruments. However, you can't buy personality or experiences. It's everything else than the watch that makes the watch. I bought a Seiko Tuna SBBN049 from my first paycheck as a firefighter/paramedic. Another intelligently argued and entertaining video, Tristano. Thank you. I get a lot of pleasure from my 2 Casios. When I travel I take the W-217HM negative dial. It does all I need it to, looks good, and reminds me that there is beauty in simplicity. The slightly more expensive AE1200WH (Casio Royale) with a 'bronze' frame and Vario brown strap looks even more elegant than the 217 and, like that watch, is cheaply and easily replaceable. But the watch I really wanted to mention was a small faced, white-dialled, analogue watch with a blue back light (no name) that I bought in the market in Blaak, Rotterdam in 2002.The plastic strap had to be replaced soon after purchase and it needed 3 batteries to run, but this 8€ find lasted me for nearly 22 years. Seek and you shall find. Best. Mark.

I got a 37 mm Swiss Army Cavalry, white dial, gunmetal from my father back in 1998 for my 23rd birthday. I used it until 2008 when I discovered the SKX007 in a online Forum of mechanical watches. From then on it was a money flowing saga: Monster 1st gen, Baby Monsters, Sumo, Samurai, Hamiltons, 6309, 6105, Turtles, big G Shocks, Pathfinders, Suunto, Steinhart 42mm, Nighthawks, Laco... so a few months ago I bought a Seiko 5 SNK807 due to a video from Watch Geek. I replaced the hands with larger ones, added a leather strap... I believe I've completed the cycle, returned to the comfort zone, under the radar, lightweight and kind of elegant. From an agonizing flipper to a stoic Seiko 5 daily driver. Jeff McMahon would be proud.

As usual, TGV takes it up another 10 levels! The point behind this entire video had nothing to do with the watch. It pointed out the insanity of coveting something else when everything you want and need is within your grasp. I was an avid Apple Watch wearer for years, counting my steps and paying for my coffee was part of my daily experience. I had been wearing Casio's and Timex Ironmans since the early 90's and the joy I got from them far surpassed anything that I got from a device from Cupertino. I sold my electronic leash and have been wearing my G-Shock 5610 with a Jay and Kays Nylon strap and bull bars daily, the sweat stains on it from my Cardio workouts and not having to worry about running out of battery have been such a joy, it is hard to put into words. I will never go back to an Apple Watch and next, I want to get rid of my smartphone! Cheers!!

Wonderful video mate! My grounding watch is a Casio my lovely wife bought surprised me with on our wedding day. She's not at all a watch person, and she's not in the slightest bit materialistic. But she went out and picked a Casio that she liked, and thought that I would like also. When presented with it I nearly cried! It ment so much that she had chosen a watch for me, knowing how much of a watch enthusiast I am (and a picky one at that). It's not a materialistically valuable watch, it's plated brass case, has a folded kink 'jingly jangly' bracelet, a press clasp...and I absolutely LOVE it! It looks wonderful, wears like a dream, keeps staggering accurate time for a budget quartz movement, and it was purchased with extremely pure intentions and a kind heart. I wear it often, and it just reminds me about some of purer experiences in watch collecting, and life itself - the days as a kid, where £60 sounded like a serious amount for a watch! And the kinds of watches my dad wore as a working class Yorkshireman, with all the plating rubbing away on the edges, but still used as intended as a daily timepiece. You’re absolutely right about the DW290. I bought mine after you and Jody from Just One More Watch reviewed it several years ago. Jody wasn’t sold on its looks, but still said it was a good watch. As far as its looks are concerned, I agree with you-I like the looks. Your comments on value and luxury are also spot on. Most of the watches in my collection are Casios-both G-Shocks and non-G-Shocks. The least expensive watch in my collection is my F-91W, and the most expensive is my Seiko Flightmaster.

All well noted. I'm starting to realise that collecting as a hobby only has real value when you imbue some meaning and personal connection to the watch. Never wear them for other people. I noticed recently that I was less excited about wearing a Certina Super PH 500 that I just bought than I was with a Casio World Time I bought a few years ago when I started this hobby. The collection expands and the meaning or connection can be diluted across it, if that makes sense. My 'happy place' watch is an old Seiko Sports 150 from the 90's. Great looking all purpose watch, was given it by a friend I have lost touch with now but from happy days! Have had it for over 20 years and long before I got into the hobby. I got married wearing it, wore it on innumerable hikes exploring the Lake District, ever dependable!

I have a watch that actually cost a negative amount of money - No2 Son needed to spend an extra £1 on Ali Express to get free and P&P so he bought me an awful watch that saved him about £5! Its got a chronograph and moonphase (printed on the dial, that is) and pushers that don't push but are moulded into the plastic case. Its the worst strap known to man and the crystal scratches if you look at it for too long. But its my favourite watch and I love that people who don't know anything about watches think it looks "Posh" cos of all the adornments on the dial. After that, yeah my DW290 is my 2nd fave.

I'm going to sing the praise of the Casio W-735H once more. For around £30 you get 100m of WR, countdown timer, stopwatch (with a 5 sec start delay), dual time and all the other usual Casio features, plus vibration alarm. Extremely useful for someone like me, who is working in loud plant rooms rather often, even more so that a flashing alarm: I might not hear or see an alarm going off, but I'll feel it. And the watch is built like a tank, despite it's not a G-Shock: I dropped it from around 5 m/15 ft and it took it like nothing.

I'm so happy you continue to produce videos on this watch. An identity and prestige of it's own along with a spot as a cinema icon. It surprises me this doesn't get the spotlight like other Casio classics. It certainly deserves the same recognition.

Casio pro-trek prg-50 has got me hooked to the brand. Definately my go-to watch since 2004. 20 years I have been enjoying this watch outdoors and on all my holidays. Scubadiving with the kids, walking my dog in the wild, getting up in the middle of the night for my sailing boat watch. This watch has it all for me. In all those years I had just 1 time to replace the rechargable battery. Never going to sell this baby!

Out of all my watches , My G Shocks get more wear than anything else . I love that model too . They meet all requirements, comfortable , tough , look good , great functionality . It's all you need .

G shock 5610 picks up atomic time setting and solar power = a true tank, also the Casio (or any Casio) a700 is super thin, light as a feather, lcd viewing from any angle and great backlight is another awesome watch. Don’t forget the Casio a158 and a168, two more super watches.

The genuineness of your thoughts is what sets you apart. I have no qualms with luxury products (even though I cannot readily afford them) but when other watch content creators wax lyrically of their love of Casios, they seem to be doing it just so they seem more “in touch” with the common man rather than a true affinity. I remember you saying that this was your "favourite watch to go to bed with!" So it's not surprising that it's one of your favourite Casios! You've reminded me how cool it looks with the green illuminator text on it! I'll have to get another one now, as I've worn the heck out of my first one and changed the battery. This watch has multiple reasons that provoke positive feelings, of utility, nostalgia, can do attitude! All of which is only experienced with wrist on experience. Great content TGV!

I love this video man! I totally get you and was in possibly a similar place like you. Although mine was probably worse than yours I was hospitalized for a month and should/could have died but thanks to all the prayers, I survived and am still here to enjoy my family and the simpler things in life. My happy place go to watch are my Seiko’s. Affordable versions of high end Swiss watches that are possibly more reliable, make you less paranoid and don’t leave a bitter after taste in your mouth after you buy it. I especially love the comfortable feel of my turtle dive watch with the silicone band. I also have several Swiss made watches and my favorite on those are my cheaper ones like the Hamilton’s. Actually thinking of selling off my higher end Swiss watches that I rarely wear. Thank you for this video and all your videos.

Bought a Casio Oceanus T200 recently and it's been my go to watch, solar, zaratsu polished case, slimline, perpetual calendar and works off either the atomic clock or a app, I've put it on a hybrid rubber and sailcloth strap and it's even better, if you haven't tried a Casio Oceanus, you're missing out, the ultimate grab and go watch 👌👌

I absolutely love my 6900 because of M:I-2 along side the Romeo 1’s I converted my 6900 to look more like the one from the movie. Tom Cruise wears both in that movie, and it makes me feel like a true badass! That’s one Casio I won’t get rid of.

Yes, I get it. I’m just not a fan of the DW290 because I think it’s a bit too thick for my wrist. My latest Casio purchase, a GWB5600, has proportions which are more to my taste, plus it’s solar and Bluetooth-enabled.
