I live in Canada and grew up with Tim Hortons. Most Canadians will agree that the overall quality has suffered greatly in the last decade; and even more since Restaurant brands bought them. They are living on good will, and that wont last forever. This also explains why they struggle so much in the US. They simply don't have those decades of goodwill built up like they do here in Canada. There's no nostalgia factor for locations outside of Canada...unless it's in a location with a lot of Canadians. They used to bake doughnuts in-house, but now have everything shipped in...they changed their coffee blend a few years back, and not for the better. They used to be really good at coffee & doughnuts, and then the menu exploded with a bunch of low quality sandwiches, potato wedges, etc, and the company lost focus. Now it's just "meh" coffee and "meh" food.

The biggest difference is speed. Timmies in Canada may be a shadow of it's former self in terms of quality, but it's FAST. They have a dozen people working in an assembly line so as soon as you have finished paying, your drink and food is ready. All of the US timmies I've been to are painfully slow, they have 2 or 3 people working and nobody is in a hurry. I don't drink Tims coffee because it's good, I drink it because it's familiar and because it's the fastest drive through around. Take away the speed and I'm going to Starbucks or Dunkin

We ate at 9 different Tim Hortons over the 7 days we traveled across Canada, we were trying to make it a game to see how many different ones we could eat at. I've had Tim's in both Ohio and New York and it was not as good. They didn't even have my favorite thing, the Chicken Salad sandwich 😠. Also not as clean and not as nice and quirky as in Canada. As a Canadian Tim hortons is overrated. Bob Mackalski from McGill University is totally wrong in his viewpoint.... The simple reason that Tim Hortons coffee shops are failing is where they are placing them they're not placing them in key areas the not identifying American demographics they're going with a Canadian mindset instead of adopting an American cultural mindset. For example in Pennsylvania I know two locations that would be ideal for a Tim Hortons.... In Westchester County New York as well as Bronx County New York I know two great locations where they could be ideally suited for the heavy traffic. The current Tim Hortons Express Cafe located at the White Plains Railroad train station Metro-North in White Plains New York is doing fairly well however due to current construction it would be my suggestion that they moved to Tim Hortons off that property into Main Street..... In the Pocono region of Pennsylvania I know a perfect location for a Tim Hortons that would take advantage of the ski crowd in the weekend there's that come visiting the Poconos. And the property that it would be placed on I own it...... people want something for lunch not just donuts and coffee they want something to eat like a light fare sandwich or a suit and that's the problem with Dunkin Donuts and the problem with Panera's is they never have enough on hand they make their stuff in the morning it's gone by the afternoon Tim Hortons however keeps their items fresh and it's an opportunity for Tim Hortons to revisit the United States Market opportunity. Another thing I will share with Tim Hortons Starbucks products are garbage I can tell you right now and if Starbucks is watching this post knock yourself out I tried to contact Starbucks customer service since last year they never responded back so don't worry about Starbucks their days are numbered right now

Good for you. As a Canadian, Tim's is garbage and that's the real reason it can't compete in the US market.

Let them come to the Caribbean. Starbucks here is too costly we need competition !!!

People in the Caribbean should build their own brands so they can control their own Economic Destiny. 😎👍

50 year old Canadian here who grew up with Tim's- unless you're loading up cream and sugar/sweetener, the coffee is dishwater. The new dark roast, attempt #3, is actually OK. Worth the try. The donut quality crashed hard in the 1990s when they went to smaller, pre-made donuts in fewer varieties. They don't provide a taste sensation worthy of their carb load. Sandwiches and wraps are decent, though there seems to have been localized quality decline since the 2000s, at least in outlets near me. Chili is not bad for a fast food place, though a little greasy.

Because we got Starbucks. Canada will do Canada and America will do America.

We have Starbucks and Dunkin' too. Just not as many. And Tim's costs less.
@Lucky8s5 жыл бұрын
Starbucks is much more expensive though. We have it in Canada and the same size coffee can cost 3x more than at Tim's

@Dennis Xu Curious, if both sold coffee for the same price, which would you prefer?

Tim Horton's Should Do Business With Australia , And New Zealand. And The U.K. Less Business With The States And More With The British Commonwealth. Canada Needs To Join The CANZUK Union. The Soon Canada Joins The CANZUK Union So Much The Better.. Less Trade With The USA..

As much as I agree with your sentiment RBI is majority-owned by the Brazilian investment company 3G Capital, so isn't fully Canadian company any longer.
