Steves awoke my travel lust. He gave a small class on how to travel cheaply in Europe, in Seattle, 1981. He showed us his self published 1st guidebook, all of 100 or so pages long. My planned 3 week trip to Europe stretched to 5 months. I was hooked. Then shortly after this, an 18 month trip around the world, 38000 km of land travel with a backpack, a budget of less than $5 a day and a strong pair of shoes. Via the trans- Siberian railway, I ended up in Switzerland, happy and penniless. Spent the next 17 years in this wonderful country, became a Swiss citizen in the process. I did manage a few trips back to the USA, but Europe was in my heart. Now 40 years after the Steves class, I am retired in Switzerland, having had a full and very adventurous life, thanks to travel.

I really needed this. sometimes when you travel too much it can start to lose its meaning you have to remind yourself for the reason why we suffer through plane rides and train rides and walking through stressful airports and rude ticket agents and hurt arms from heavy bags and spending time tired in transit. When you feel the joys of meeting amazing people and making new connections and seeing things in real life youve only seen in your dreams and on tv you realize its all worth it. It really makes life worthwhile.
@INTUITIVENORSK23032 жыл бұрын
I hear you, but please try to turn all of those negatives, into real positives. You see, even lifting, carrying, waiting, flying, feeling upset, hurt, or whatever, it's all worth it and it's all for good reason. Maybe not @ the time, but almost always in hindsight. I always enjoy every single aspect of my interstate &/or global travel experiences. Why? Because i just do and i don't get to do it too often, so i make the most out of every single trip abroad. I don't look @ anything as a negative & i try not to moan and groan, bec every seemingly negative experience, in the end, will only help us to grow into bigger, better and stronger people. Also, when we complain too much, it ruins an otherwise wonderful travel experience. If we wear the blinkers, we miss out on great things and great opportunities around us. It blinds us to the otherwise beauty of the "moment". Have fun, no matter what you do, no matter what the experience. Smile too, for a smile and choosing to carry peace and joy within our hearts, costs absolutely nothing. Peace :-)

Hi Rick, I've only known you and your travel videos for 6 years now and absolutely love them/you and have watched them over and over and always get loads of fun, excitement, education, culture, nature and a good general understanding of some of theses fantastic places around the Northern Hemisphere. I myself live in the U.K. in a small Yorkshire coastal town of Bridlington and it's my little piece of Europe Heaven. I unfortunately, my health and mobility is in great decline and can not go to some of these places and I am in great pain all the time but somehow when I watch your programmes I feel as if you are travelling for me and/or bringing theses places to me in my living room and it makes me feel better and helps me to relax as your so easy to watch when I feel ill - they're/you're a great pick-me-up. So thank you Rick for that and bringing years of travel-fun and awareness of some absolutely amazing places in Europe to the masses out there, that either love travel or like me are in a situation where they can't go but love to watch. You're programmes make me happy, make me smile and really help with my pain, so keep on making them and keep on travellin'! Love you Rick.

I just love watching Rick Steves. He is such a wealth of information when it comes to traveling. Traveling to Europe has been on my bucket list since I was young. I still remember when I first traveled out of the country. I was in third grade, going into fourth. My parents and I took a trip to Aruba. I was just amazed to see a new part of the world I had never seen before. Since then, I have been there 12 times. My parents and I are going to Aruba in a few days, and I can’t wait. The nice thing when traveling is you can meet new people. We have met some incredible people who have been coming to Aruba for many years. When you travel, connect with people, make some friends. I always look forward to traveling.
