Steel drums and this was part of the soundtrack for the movie "Cocktail"

I grew up with The Beach Boy's music & had a lot of their records. Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Don't Worry Baby", "Surfin' Safari", "I Get around", "California Girls", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Heroes & Villains", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "In My Room", "Good Vibrations" etc.

ITS FROM THE MOVIE COCKTAIL!! It was written by John Philips of the Mamas and Papas...and Scott Mckenzie of If you are going to San Francisco, Wear some flowers in your hair... fame..
@paulkingartwerks79812 жыл бұрын
Brian Wilson did not write this tune: written by John Phillips / Terry Melcher / Mike Love / Scott Mackenzie. The verse of the song came from a demo by John Phillips (formerly of the Mamas & the Papas) and Scott McKenzie (best known for his 1967 song “San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)," which Phillips wrote). The Beach Boys' Mike Love added the chorus which lists the names of islands. Drums are steel drums.

The Beach Boys were my very first concert at Summerfest in Milwaukee 1975 with my brother. I was 15 and my brother was 17. Then last summer, 47 years later I got to see The Beach Boys again. You guessed it. With my brother at Waterfest In Oshkosh, WI. What a great time!

Hi guys. If you ever saw the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise this song was used in that film. Also you should check out the actual video of this. If you ever watched Full House on TV, you will remember Uncle Jesse. He was playing the bongos and conga drums on this. Don't believe he was playing the steel drums though. They had several people playing percussion on it.

This was probably their last big hit. When I was about 8, I spenr a day at my aunt's house, and she had like 2 dozen Beach Boys albums. We stacked them all up on her record player and listened to them all day. Mt favorite song of theirs is ' B.' I also like a lot of their other classics like 'Help Me Rhonda' and 'Shut You Down. They have a big catalog to go through.

The Beach Boys, well Brian Wilson has went through a lot of musical experimentation during his life. Good Vibrations is probably their biggest experiment hit. I still love them for their surfing and teenage years songs, Fun Fun Fun, Little Honda, 409, Help Me Rhonda, are all some their early years stuff and just fun to listen to.

I noticed something nobody has mentioned that this song with from a famous movie with Tom Cruise called cocktail it was a very well-made movie I don't know how good it did at the box office but I watched it after when it was in video and I really liked it it was made in 1988 and if you watch another video of this on KZbin you will see the actual video they made including clips from the movie and the Beach Boys look a lot older and amazingly enough the drummer was John Stamos from Full House so people are shocked to see him in the video but he did some traveling in 1988 with the Beach Boys that's why you see him

This is from around 1988 which was waaay past their original heyday of the 1960’s. It was a massive hit. Huge! And not all that different from their older stylings. The Beach Boys are considered one of the most innovative and influential rock groups of all time. You should definitely delve deeper into their discography.
@dudieb2 жыл бұрын
No, they are definately not a capella. John Stamos from the series “Full House” used to sit in on the drums with the Beach Boys and was featured in their Kokomo video. One of my favorites of theirs is “God Only Knows”.

....'Acapella' means unaccompanied voice, as in a singer or a vocal ensemble😀 without musical instruments along side supporting the vocals. A 'barbershop quartet' is an example of an acapella style. Another example is found in the genre called 'doo wop' a.k.a 'street corner harmony'. Classical music is full of acapella music....

Kokomo was on the soundtrack for the 1988 film Cocktail, starring Tom Cruise. Maybe that's where Dee heard it.
