Love this video. It's nice to see the old VW running again. Even those rusty old "parts buses" can be fixed up, given enough time and money. The prices of VW campers are going through the roof, so almost anything is worth fixing up. I've got a 1971 Westfalia camper that was given to me back in 1999. It's a California bus that was mostly rust free, however it was missing some key parts. But scrounger that I am, I found everything I needed and rebuilt the engine to a 1776 cc size. It runs very nicely and turns some heads with its new blue/white paint job. Regards, Tom

This is the third video of this nature I have watched- getting an OLD VW bus to run after eons of sitting. It always feels to me like I am watching one of those videos of a stray dog that has been abandoned, out in the wild, raw and afraid of humans. It is a matter of putting down some treats and gaining its confidence before a leash can be put around its neck, put in a car, given a wash and some love to get the doggie back to its friendly nature. Who knew rehabilitating Micro Buses was a thing?

Another fun video ! I restored a 71' superbeetle and had a good time doing it . The only "little" problem I had was a stuck axle nut . I used heat , impact driver and finally bent my craftsman 1/2" breaker bar ! Had to cut the nut in half with a moto tool with 1" cutoff disks . Will be awaiting the continued story . You are a bad influence , makes me want to tackle a large project .

By the time you finish building all the new panels you’ll be an expert panel beater if you’re not already... Nice find. It was a necessary but sad day when I sold my ‘69 pop top Westy- someday I’ll have another. I’ve still got a freshly rebuilt never run 1776 in the back of the shop that was intended for that Bus. Might wind up in a Beetle though. It was assembled with Gene Berg semihemi machined bugpak heads with an Engle over a new NOS forged crank. Estimated 115 horsepower from John (the VW guru here in Vermont) that machined the heads and set the compression height.

Hey Darren, I saw a another KZbinr loosen up a stuck wheel by placing a prybar under the lugnuts like you did. EXCEPT that he let the prybar touch the ground. Then he lowered the jack back down so that the prybar could put pressure on the drum and broke it loose WITHOUT any hassle. Maybe he got lucky, but he sure made it look easier. Hope this helps.
