Im a newbie to the gym and i just finished my first week using your way of training (fast concentric, very slow eccentric, eccentric stretches and full rom) and it worked so well. One of the most important thing that I’ve learned from Dr. Mike is to be intensely focused during each set and putting your best effort to make each and every single repetition count and make it as high quality as possible that is full ROM, slow-controlled eccentrics and pauses in the deep stretched position and using super efficient technique and eliminating unnecessary or excessive momentum and training like if we’re inside the muscle that we’re working to improve the mind muscle connection immensely and getting really great pumps. The high quality work is what matters and it’s certainly essential. It improves the efficiency by a huge margin. Thanks for educating me on the importance of quality work. Highly appreciate that. I’m deeply grateful and indebted to you forever for being such an important part in my lifting journey. Following you religiously was one of the best decision that I’ve made. Your training methods, philosophy and approach helped me a ton! You taught me that progressive overload can come in many ways and it’s not always in terms of weight and/or reps. It can be improving technique and efficiency too! Outstanding work! This channel is truly a masterpiece. 🙏💪👍

Hey mike i always do leg press all the way down like you do and i must say its amazing and also literally no one else in my gym does it like that. Using an extra thigh pad on prone hamstring curls makes such a huge difference. I'm a taller guy and had never been able to get a full stretch on the machine at my gym. Been using a couple extra pads for the last few months and get such a better stretch. Weirdly enough, it made the movement simultaneously harder at the bottom and easier at the top, so much so that I was able to increase the weight by a significant amount and progress really quickly. I think it put my hamstrings in a better position to exert force, and I think I was getting more active insufficiency than peak contraction at the top in the past.

2 Will/Mike videos? This is the best Sunday of my life.
@CounterNarrative_ Жыл бұрын
On Will being surprised at you finishing the set before failure because of pain, one thing you will notice about more effective training that has higher hypertrophy effect to fatigue ratio is that you'll often fail because it becomes painful, not because of a metabolically induced failure. I've notice this in my own training, slow stretched eccentrics really are king and "failure is failure" is a really wrong way of thinking about training, there are different reasons to fail, pain being superior to fatigue for growth.
@smelma Жыл бұрын
My personal experience is that it depends on the muscle group. I _cannot_ do calves to failure because they burn too much, but I can do lateral raises until my shoulders are too weak to lift up my arms.
@leevikamarainen1493 Жыл бұрын
What? It's definitely the other way around. You shouldn't stop when it starts to hurt.
@CounterNarrative_ Жыл бұрын
@@smelmaofc, very hard to get a stretch in the lateral raise, unless you do an across the body form, for that reason, most lateral raises are done from neutral to contracted state with little stretch beyond neutral, so not much way to circumvent the fatigue that exists as apart of "normal" ranges of motion.

I’m glad they briefly discussed why Mike went to like 2 RIR while Will went to failure. In the other videos I was confused because I knew Mike prescribed RIR 3 the first week of a mesocycle and decreasing by 1 RIR each week, but then all the workout guests were always coached to failure. Maybe Mike treats these as if the guests are at the end of a mesocycle?
