Hello, I film weddings with 2 sony alpha 7/4, 1x with Hdmi 1x with Holyland Mars 300 pro on blackmagic atem mini pro, in the end I have a quality problem (the picture from both cameras is completely different) what recommendations do you have for me? Teradek Bolt 4K LT HDMI 750 TX/RX & 6G would be better. ask for your support Thanks

It’s interesting, but the lack of loop out is a very serious oversight for such a product. It means it has to be at the end of the device chain and will be susceptible to all the lag added in that HDMI chain.

What do you mean in regards to “loop out”? Thanks
@TheTechnoPilot

@@214_Studios it means basically splitting the HDMI signal and providing an HDMI output in addition to the input. Normally the device shouldn’t modify this signal from the original input.

Great little transmitter indeed. It's a bummer that Teradek abandoned that product. They're now pushing the Ace 750 with no internal battery... But the concept of the Spark, the internal battery for 2 hours, that's genius. Especially for gimbal work.

Two way for camera control would be a major plus. It wouldn’t even need to be zero-latency … 80ms wouldn’t matter for tally, iris, stop/start etc. I would also like to see a loop through - especially useful in the alternate use case you mentioned of sending to a display. Looping through to a Hyperdeck or the Duplicator 4K at events.

Fantastic review and totally agree with your comments. Zero latency is what I've been looking for for a long time. A 2-way system with commands, tally and talkback going back to camera would be awesome. And there would definitely be a market for SDI ins and outs for the broadcast market. One question is that at 1080 there is no delay. It is labelled as 4K so is there any delay at this resolution?

Thanks Tim, I'm glad you enjoyed the review and found it useful! Couldn't agree more about the 2 way communication, I really hope this is something that can be developed in a unit in the future, same with SDI too. Good question, I did personally test at 4K too and found that there was zero latency at 4K as well as 1080p, which was fantastic to see :) Hope this helps, Alex

Excellent, excellent video and thank you! I’ve been doing research tonight because I ran into a issue today on an actual production shoot using the bmpcc 4k and 6k with the ATEM ISO Pro. I was so looking forward to this day using the 4k on the iFootage Shark Mini Slider but I was using a hdmi cable to record with both cameras but the cord’s weight / pull wouldn’t allow the automation head to perform right. So I decided to see if a wireless hdmi device even existed? Thank God it does! BUT will the Spark 4K record to the ATEM with all the bells and whistles / options the ATEM ISO Pro provides?

My issue is that the transmitter gets so hot it could cook eggs. It needs a small quiet fan on the heat sink grill to cool it off. Heat kills electronics so I am worried about the MTBF.

Great video Alex, just a quick question, if I wanted to set up multiple Wireless cameras with this system, would I require multiple sets or do I just need the one receiver and multiple Transmitters? Thanks.
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 10 ай бұрын
Yes you would need a kit for each camera. A receiver unit can only receive a feed from one transmitter unit. Also worth noting that I think there is a limit of 4 systems being used in a space at any one time. So the max number of wireless cams you could have in the same space would be 4. Hope this helps

but it should also be mentioned that due to the latency-free HDMI output of the blackmagic cameras, there is absolutely no latency - the opposite is all the others (sony, panasonic, canon, etc), which all already have a latency at the HDMI output, and partly not little!

One of the features this system lacks that I wish it had, is the ability to pair directly to an ipad from the transmitter, to be able use the ipad as a director's monitor or for a follow focus monitor without having to be directly at video village, etc. The Hollyland Mars 400S Pro has this capability, but the poor latency performance makes it completely un-usable for wireless follow focus. For the work I've been doing so far, I am using both the Hollyland Mars 400S pro for the B-CAM (doesn't have a wireless follow focus, manual focus by operator only) and the Teradek Spark 4K for the A-Camera (which does use wireless follow focus) to an ATEM so that we can see all wireless and wired cameras at once at Video Village. The focus puller needs to be at video village in this setup making it a little more crowded for the director. Audio from the sound bag is sent wirelessly to the ATEM as well, but requires a frame or two of offset in the ATEM to make the audio and A-CAM video still in Sync. There is still latency in most cameras processing and output over HDMI that the testing that Alex did not get identified or explained. The latency for my particular A-CAM is not great enough to make it non-usable for the focus puller.

In terms of features it seems like a teradek ace 500 with 4k support and an internal battery. They're both 500 foot units, hdmi only, and low latency. Only with this I assume it's only compatible with other spark units.

@AlexPettitt 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I that's my understanding too. I've never tried the ace 500 before, went straight for the Spark 4K as I wanted that UHD ability. 2:44 5GHz is more susceptible than 2.4GHz when things are in the way of line of sight. 5GHz is just less saturated than the 2.4GHz because less people use it. I don’t know why they advertise it as such. The lower the frequency the more radio like the electromagnetic wave becomes. The higher the more “line of sight like” it becomes. It’s basic physics.
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 2 жыл бұрын
You are right, 2.4GHz is less susceptible to line-on-sight than 5GHz. When I mentioned this, I was referring to other wireless transmitters that use the 60GHz... as 5GHz is much less susceptible to objects in the way of line of sight. Hopefully I didn't cause too much confusion there. I've been really impressed with the 5GHz band performance so far... it seems to be a good balance between congestion, distance, noise, and line of sight breaks. :)

As always an excellent and well explained video. Functionality apart why are these devices so huge?? Also why are they such different dimensions. From a product design point of view they do look like someone made the prototype in a 5th form wood work class and they went with that. In all seriousness what component inside is accounting for the size?? They seem bizarrely under designed in terms of form rather than functionality especially given their very basic display and ports. A smaller unit with a breakout cable might have made more sense??? Thx for all your work and happy new year.

You have a few options here, if your on camera monitor has HDMI pass through, you would plug your camera into the monitors HDMI in and then the Spark into its HDMI output. You could also look at getting a HDMI splitter that you mount to the camera and power from a batter bank. Another option is that one Spark 4K TX unit is able to broadcast to 2x RX units at the same time. So it’s more expensive but this route would work too. Hope this helps 👍

Great review! Can you recommend a camera for this to use with Atem ISO that can record 4k internally unlimited, with clean hdmi out for Teradek -- but also has continuous autofocus? If the BMPCC cameras could do Continuous Autofocus this wouldn't be an issue -- but I often film speakers and musicians who tend to drift forward and backward on stage, and also low-lighting scenarios where I'd like to be around f2.8 -- and I don't want to have a camera operator on all 6-8 cameras pulling focus. I'm worried about a Canon R6 / Sony A7 IV overheating while recording 4k Internal Recording while also sending out the HDMI feed to my mixer. I saw some Prosumer camcorders, but it's hard to tell on spec sheets if the cameras drop any features while internal recording -- such as clean hdmi, autofocus, or the screen on the camera.

Good question, I’d maybe look at a Sony FX3. We use some on some of our gaming rigs, never had an overheating issue (usually on for 10hs+), clean HDMI out, Autofocus. They’re expensive, but tick all the boxes you’re after :)

It can’t be zero delay. Radio waves travel at the speed of light. If you separate the tx and Rx by a great distance you will have latency.
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 2 жыл бұрын
The max transmission distance of the Spark 4K is 500ft, at that distance it truly is zero delay. The loss would be way less than 1 frame.

You are actually wrong about 5G it’s a very short wave length and does not penetrate well. It will got through drywall fine but sensor materials or objects with water like people it does not penetrate well. Your also adding delay with the splitter

This system seems great on paper I’m trying to use it with the yolobox pro for portable live-streaming. I’m just a bit worried about it overheating. I’m using the anten Bauer battery system powering my Sony fx3 and powering the transmitter at the same time. I’m hoping to get 4-8 hours of use out of it with some breaks in between. How long do you think it can last without overheating?
