That whole recording where she and her sister were in the RV is weird. They both did this rambling child's voice, hurriedly sucking in air and rambling some more. Not really making any sense. I commented on that another time that clip was shown. I worked with a woman who did a baby voice at times. This women's dad was a pastor and she remarked how she doesn't know anything about music or movies, specifically when she was a kid, because her dad didn't allow it. As time went on, it was clear religion was used to abuse this woman. She would revert to this baby voice and baby actions when she was wrong or was in trouble at work. She also use this tactic to cry to management and say other people scared her. You can look up why grown ups revert to this baby persona and it's because they were abused or traumatized as children. Again, that rambling baby voice is very off putting.

Or even better yet start campaigning for laws to change so that the parents right to religion doesn't supersede the child's right to safety. This has been an ongoing issue that even plays a part in why so many children died under CPS care and then the CPS workers are looked at as the bad guy. We expect more than is possible with our current laws. Roe v Wade having been overturned absolutely opens the door to be able to push for these laws to change wherw even kids have equal rights

It's called denial. It is a psychological condition. Anna can not advance to a survivor until she breaks out of the lies that she has been groomed to believe. Having come out of a similar cult, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said Josh is like a drug to her. YES! He is the cult-leader, and she is his follower. There is hope for her, though. I broke free and ended up in an emergency women's shelter with my 2 young children to escape. I had no phone, no driver's license, no money, no job or resume, and was still devoted to my husband. But it got so scary to be in my husband's "home cult" that staying became a far scarier proposition to me than fleeing, so that's what I did. There's still hope for Anna, and for her kids. God IS using the Duggar show and all that followed, just NOT in the way that Michelle and Jim Bob intended!

I was once very much like Anna, and can tell you from experience, there IS hope that she will break free. I can tell you have done your research to the point of understanding the psychology of being in that system, and so you are able to put yourself in Anna's shoes and see a bit of the "why" behind her choices and what she may be thinking. I also came out of a Christian fundamentalist cult-like belief system (now freed) and appreciate your nuance in handling this topic. It's so easy to just cast a broad net of "they're crazy", but they are also people, with motivators, intellect, and genuine fears, so if they're ever going to get out, they need to be approached with that sort of nuanced understanding, not "you're crazy, you're in a cult and are a robot".

And the proposal was was obviously staged for the show, though the claim was that Josh “secretly” filmed it (yeah - with 2-3 camera angles). The bridges she would burn by leaving are just miles long and affect her life greatly. It’s all such a sad, twisted story, and as much as I can understand that Anna is also a victim and uneducated, that does not excuse her refusal to accept the fact that her husband and father of her children was convicted of truly heinous CSAM. Someone capable of enjoying the assault and torture of young children can never be around any children ever again. Anna is failing to protect her own children by sticking with Josh, and her reasons for that really don’t matter. At 3.06 all of them have ear phones? When I first saw it I thought of maybe it's racing to protect the children's ears, then those two had them as well...maybe there was music playing? He's done a billion miles worse than hearing music! I carry ear plugs because I'm on the spectrum& the majority of music sets my nerves on edge, then I have to keep myself calm and not stim...but I don't think it would be for anything like that.
