PERFECT! Ok, so I’m only 1:28 in and you may answer this later but, I gotta get it down. So, when you fire up, the separate modules, add them to your wifi network, and then pull up WLED on one of them…. Do all the modules show up like yours shows bottom, top, lamps, console? Or do you have to add them? This is beyond cool and exactly what I want. I thought I was going to have to code a solution…

WLED is one of the best open source, and arguably the best out of all, Addressable LED controller firmware. It runs on a wide range of devices, the maintainer is very responsive and it just seems to work so well. It's fast, can run standalone or integrated to your wifi, can easily just have a physical button if you want. Overall just a great way to control LED's. You should try the Sound Reactive version if you want to use effects with your background music.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos, I have learned so much and love WLED. I noticed you appear to have your cubbies behaving as "groups" of leds and thus, they fade in big blocks. I have been trying to figure out how to do this as I made a large 3d Printed text marquee and would like to get the letters to behave like your cubbies where the effect is across the letters, not the individual LED's ... hope this makes sense. Thank you for any help
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and glad you are enjoying the videos! That sounds like an awesome project! So I actually do no have them in groups. The fading effect I believe your seeing is the Android effect and the lights are not turning off/fading per box but rather they lights are just turning off in relationship to the chasing effect which does give have the same effect as if the box is slowly turning off completely when the lights turning off passes through each box. I'm reading this back to myself and i'm not sure if im explaining that well but its kindof hard to put into words what is happening lol.

@74357175 Жыл бұрын

@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and great question! Yes they can. Once you create a segment, you can only have that segment selected and when you go back to choose color/animation, only that segment will be controlled. You can then go back and uncheck that segment and choose another one and do the same if that makes sense! For sure there are some applications where this would come in handy!
@TheSlimHim Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisMaherDIY I appreciate the reply but i should have been more clear. When I said treat the segment as LEDs I meant as an LED not a strip. So for example an animation that makes all LEDs off except one that glows green and "bounces" back and forth. Could each segment be treated as an LED so the boxes light up one at a time in the same back and forth manner.

Awesome video! Question for you… I want to light the inside of a cabinet that has 4 doors using reed switches to automatically power the LEDs when individual doors are opened. I’d like for it to work so that if the right door is opened, only the right door LEDs come on, if a middle cabinet is opened, only its LEDs turn on and so on. Is there any way around needing 4 separate outlets to achieve this? If using the esp32 would I need 4 units to control each section of LEDs independently with the reed switch? Thanks! And again amazing videos!
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Sounds like an awesome project and idea! So you could for sure create segments in WLED to control each section of lights that you want. You could do that all of one power supply and controller. Now as far as getting things to automatically turn on when the doors are opened, thats something that is above my paygrade lol. If you can get that to work, you should make a video as I'm sure a lot of other people would love to see how you did it!

What’s up Chris, love the channel. I was wondering how you decide what type/brand of strip lights your going to use for a project? I’ve noticed you use Govee along with WLED. So when do you personally use govee plug n play strips vs Wled? Right now I have a lot of govee lights but feel like I can’t achieve what I want anymore. My issue is i love the T2 and I know if I don’t use Govee I won’t be able to use the dreamview with those strips. Would you recommend I just use govee for things I know I want to integrate with the t2 like the Lyras and use WLED for the rest of my projects?
@KingZarkon Жыл бұрын
I just started following. Question, I bought a govee m1 strip and was wondering if you think I can solder wires from the stock controller to the beginning of the strip? I’m starting the strip on the ceiling and want to locate my controller on the floor. I have moulding to hide my wires.
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and that's a great question! I think in theory you should be able to! I know in some of my setups using the diy type led strips, when the controller is somewhat far away from the first led strip the data has a hard time traveling the distance so in some cases I have had to use a simple resistor on the data line right after the controller which boosted the data signal and then it worked perfectly. Not sure if it would be similar on the Govee setup or if there would be any other issues but for sure something that would be fun to try and find out! Let me know if you do and what happens!

Thanks so much for watching and great question! I just split the data line coming off the controller and ran it to both lamps. I was expecting to need to use a resistor to boost the signal but they worked just fine even though the data line for the one opposite of the controller is about 8 feet long. Also just split the voltage and gnd wire from my power to feed into both.

Ae these all running off the same power unit? If so what are the Amps and watts for it? Thanks, love the videos
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching buddy! The media console is hooked up to a 5v 30amp unit. The floor lamps are powered by 1 5v 10am unit and the top and bottom diffuser are also powered from 1 5v 10a unit. I cant remember the watts off the top of my head but since I never run the leds super bright (max brightness is very unnecessary for what I use them for. way too bright) they dont take up much power. Thanks again!

Lol glad you liked it because its playing the entire time! I don't know what it is about the song but it just seems like the perfect background music for videos like this. Not too annoying and just a subtle sound in the back so there is not pure silence during parts. Here is the link! kzbin.info/www/bejne/f37JlIprjJmme8U Thanks buddy!

Hi, how can we choose true power supply? How can we calculate easly do you have any video about?
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! So on WLED, once you input the number of lights you are using and set the type of lights you are using, in led preferences near the top it will give you a recommended power supply for max settings but also will give you estimated option based on what will achieve good results for most animations. I usually go with that option. Hope that makes sense! There are other ways you can calculate this but I still have not taken the time to figure that out.

Hey Chris, I might need some help. I can't get my LEDs to turn on at all. Im getting 5v between hot and ground on the strip, and I'm getting 5v between the signal and hot (which seems wrong to me) but I am not getting anything between signal and ground. If you could share some insight, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

What are the specs for your UST setup? I need to do something similar in my basement. Curious how far away it is from your screen and what size screen you're able to get. Been looking at an XGIMI or Optoma P2.

Chris, I sent you an email about SignalRGB. Upon further research there is modded support for WLED. You could use a PC with your screen and have music visualizer, game reactive, and all kinds of custom effects. It's fairly new software and there is very little coverage about it on KZbin.
@kasoni Жыл бұрын
@@wojtek-33 Well if you're running 5 RGB softwares compared to running just one, it is far from bloated.

Hey Chris , i followed your previous tutorial and it really worked but I have an issue, whenever i powerup my esp32 and strip using an external power supply using Vin pin it requires additional power supply for esp32 which i feed it through micro USB port
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Hmm that is interesting and should be the case. When using the external power supply, is the gnd from the module and gnd from the led strip connected together with the gnd from the power supply? Its gotta be something easy but that would be my first guess. Let me know if you figured things out!

@swissfreek Жыл бұрын
Hyperion looks super cool, but so far my research only finds solutions that are inline with HDMI or run software on a PC. With the proliferation of smart TVs that do all their streaming internally, I’d really like to find a solution that can take advantage of that. Not holding my breath tho 😕
@ChrisMaherDIY Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seems like the perfect system still does not exist and with everything there are some drawbacks like you mentioned. I personally only use a NVidia shield for everything so it would not bother me, but if your using the tvs internal apps, then all the hdmi sync box options out there would not be an option at this point. Lol but yeah, I also would not hold your breath.

Chris, can you explain how to sync? When I click my sync button it only controls one strip. I have a desk setup identical to yours (followed all your vids haha) but I can’t get them to sync. 4 ESP32 controllers; 1 per desk leg and 1 for the desk perimeter. They’re all in the same sync group in my Sync Interfaces, on the same network, same UDP ports. I don’t get it. I can only control each light strip individually. Thanks in advance.

Nice video! I have a few quetions though 🤔 Looks like you have Android and in your app, every effect has the name, a color palette icon and 3 dots & the sliders are on the bottom But in my app (also Android) I only see the name of the effects and the sliders are on the top Also, in the "colors" section theres's a "R" rounded button/color but I don't have it. There's also a "Bg" rounded button and same case in my app (it's not there) I've just started using WLED but I don't know why there are such differences between your app and mine 🤨 Maybe it's because of the version of WLED itself installed on the ESP32 but I'm not sure Edit: It was the WLED version. I updated to 0.14.0-b1 😁😁

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you are enjoying the videos! So I am not very familiar with HomeKit but my understanding is there is some compatibility if you use something Homebridge plugin. But someone did let me know that if you need to use Homebridge, that means its not compatible so I'm not sure lol. Maybe that makes more sense to you than it does to me!
