As a book narrator, I don't understand this wokeness. If I cannot imitate another race, how am I to ever narrate a book again that has more that "white guys" in it? I can't make female voices, I can't make black voices, I can't make Chinese or Indian or Native American voices.... It's called ACTING for a reason!!! If there is NO RACIAL SLURRING INTENDED, how can it be bad (and why is it ONLY BAD) for a Caucasian to imitate another Nationality??? It's STUPID!!! I remember an old comic, I don't remember the name of the strip. A guy works long and hard to write a novel, polishes it to a shine, brings it to an editor who says he can't publish it because it might offend this group. So he rewrites it taking out the stuff that could offend. Editor says this other thing might offend. Eventually he's even told making the MC a man could offend women or nonbinary people, and then that making the person a human was problematic. Ultimately he was reduced to a long story about a rock sitting on the ground while nothing happened to it. The editor finally had nothing to say about offensiveness, but wanted to know why it was so boring.

As a Texas Aggie, I can say that we love hearing Aggie jokes. And more generally, most people who are listening to comedy are happy to be the butt of jokes. It's the hyper-woke who "need to be offended on others' behalf" that go crazy. Ignore them, you'll never be able to make them happy anyway. I've seen more comics acting unapologetic and offensive and doubling down when someone tries to call them on it, which is really good to see.

I think I agree with you Kathy there’s not a really problem with jokes. The problem is the behind-the-scenes actual discrimination and harm done to many different types of people due to ethnicity, race, gender, sex orientation, etc. Comedians need to get some slack, but the world needs to improve also.

There is a Swiss guy with Arabian roots who is telling racists jokes in KZbin - but always telling them to corresponding people on the streets mostly to people of colour. Almost all of them are laughing about those jokes and thus about the self respectively about prejudices against them - most jokes are ending with hugging - here laughing is the best weapon to ridicule those prejudices😅 He even made a special with an Israeli jew telling really inappropriate jew jokes, while his counterpart was making jokes on the Arabian heritage of the guy. I never laughed my ass away as in those videos (maybe except in yours) 😂

It's ironic that "woke" used to mean "aware of the ways in which society is trying to control and censor you" (specifically referring to systemic racism), and now means "censoring _yourself_ to avoid offense by proxy" (when, most of the time, the people you're supposedly "offending" don't feel offended). I get the feeling that if people watched "All in the Family" today, they'd think the writers were only making fun of Archie (for being a bigot), and wouldn't understand they were making fun of Mike as well (for being patronising and sanctimonious). _Lionel_ was actually the sane, level-headed guy.

I always find this a really difficult subject. On the one I agree, we need to stop with you cannot say that. We need to accept that human communication is horribly defunct, there IS NO API for that. This means that sometimes we'll say something that will trigger a error state on the other side. Let's accept that this is a given, when you trigger an error state. Be receptive to the others point of view, accept you might not understand it. Say that you're sorry that what you said caused an error on their side and that this wasn't your intention. Do not do what most people though and go full non reflective and say well that is a you problem. Even if that's correct it's only going to cause more error states and put them in a live lock. Try getting what you need from a database or application in a live lock. Good luck!
