This little squirrel likes to run the house his way! Gibby’s mom connected with him at a wildlife rehab but ignored it so he could be released. But when the time came, he had no survival instincts so she took him home. His personality and their bond grew and now she can’t imagine life without him.

Aww 🥰 Gibby is too adorable and such a handsome little man. Squirrels 🐿 are actually very intelligent and they can be extremely affectionate when they find a human. Although squirrels 🐿 aren’t like other animals, they do in fact usually get very attached to only one ☝️ person at a time, it’s like they form a huge bond and in their tiny little brain/heart they sorta think as their human as their mommy. With that being said it’s truly sad 😢 and unfortunate because so many people only think of squirrels 🐿 as a nuisance and as tree rats, but they are one ☝️ of the most intelligent creatures to ever exist, as well as can be the most loving 🥰 too!!

We have a cottontail and it was the same thing. It seemed that he hated the very idea of being outside; being away from his warm bed, no snacks, no pets or snuggles, and being in constant fear of hawks and foxes. So he refused to be released, and kept following us back when we tried, and finally just sat on my boot. Like he was saying, "This living in the wild idea sucks, take me back home."

There are many people who are having this experience with squirrels, including myself… I think we are seeing the beginning of an animal go from wild to domestic. Instagram has tons of people with squirrels like this. Currently I have a wild Mom raising her 5 babies 20 feet from my front door.

Very smart animals. A little too smart sometimes. A main reason I have yet to be able to grow a successful garden. They twist off my cherry tomatoes and half bury them in my yard. They nibble on all the other vegetables until nothing is left. About the only thing they’ll let me grow is jalapeños and radishes. 😂

Warning if you have a domestic squirrel and you encounter a dog that has been encouraged to hate squirrels, the dog will bite you. I love dogs, my soulmate squirrel and Corgi dog lived together, went to Home Depot (people bring their dogs inside. (Watch out for rat poison pellets on the floor, dogs will eat it, always keep my dog in the cart)…. was attacked by a dog and the owner was so very confused and concerned and so was I until I realized that the dog had smelled my squirrel. Dog was leashed, so I wasn’t bit, dog looked like it was a Blue Healer breed.

@@Cara-hm2tl in England the Grey squirrel is a non-native invasive species that has virtually wiped out almost the entire native red squirrel population.. So yes they do. And our habitats have hardly changed. Just one invasive grey squirrel has replaced the other native red squirrel almost entirely, I believe they now considered an endangered species in the UK now or very close to it..

He found that most of the decline in red squirrels was due to predator attacks, road "accidents" and more of their favored habitat being destroyed for grey squirrels (red squirrels prefer coniferous forests, grey squirrels prefer deciduous forests, which is the reason why Scotland is the main stronghold left for red squirrels because the grey squirrels are simply more adaptable than the red squirrels are and can outcompete red squirrels better in deciduous forests compared to coniferous forests) He also found that the red squirrels were wiped out years ago and our current red squirrel population has all come from imports from Norway or Sweden!! Hence the reason why there is such a small gene pool. Besides, rabbits aren't native (they came from Romania I believe) yet they are considered native and many humans in the UK aren't truly native either but are considered as such. Yet humans are THE MOST invasive species on Earth!!

They didn't die off before the Grey Squirrels became introduced, the Grey squirrels directly competed for the same territory and being Grey squirrels are much larger than the red squirrel, there's no competition physically.. You must live in a town as Most Squirrels would live in places there are few roads.. how would traffic target specific Red Squirrels and not Grey, that makes zero sense! I think your friend needs to reassess their conclusions because they're way off from fact! And Yes the small populations they have tried to reintroduce are from Scandinavia as they're the closest Genetically to the Native Populations! 👍🏻
