"No longer and not yet" Yes! The most growth happens in uncertainty 1. If you lost something, grieve it 2. Find mentors when you are feeling uncertain, stuck, at a crossroads. 3. The return - Time for reflection and patience. Be mindful. Savor and celebrate the unknown. It is a natural state. Be comfortable with it.

For myself, after the shock wore off, it was deciding I didn't want this event to define me. That left me lots of opportunity to walk forward (some days 5 minutes at a time) and explore.

What if one has lost almost everything, is homeless, on jobseeker's payment and with mental illness? How do you recover from that?

I don't know if I've moved so much during the last years just trying to get un-stuck. I'd rather deal with the uncertainty of a new immigration role maybe. IDK, I just feel so detached from everything since I lost my Mom.

Do whatever you feel like doing as much as possible. When hungry, eat. When tired, sleep. When you want to cry, cry. When you want to scream, scream into a pillow or in a car in an empty parking lot. Obviously work gets in the way of these things but as much as possible just do whatever feels right in the moment. If you feel confused and have no idea what to do it's okay to just sleep, sit, watch tv. You don't have to do anything or fix anything. Just be.

I hope sharing my experience with grief is helpful in some way. For me it's like a wall goes up around my heart when I'm really sad- preventing me from feeling anything. I just feel numb. So realizing I'm afraid of the grief on a subconscious level- I pick a few things I can do/think of that bring me peace and feelings of gratitude (My pets, the blue sky, music, having enough food to eat, or if I'm really depressed- maybe just the feel of a soft blanket and/or heating pad (aches and pains can accompany my grief) Once I have something that lights up positivity in my brain- then I do a deep dive into the numb areas where my sadness hides. I say to my deep inner pain- "hello my dear grief- I love you, and I'm here to listen deeply to you with patience, kindness, and respect. I will wait a thousand years for you to heal if that's how long it takes." then I just hug myself and spend sometime listening to my heart. I journal about my feelings. I remind myself that they will never truly die as long as I'm alive- because they live on in my heart and memories. As long as I am alive- I have chances to be reminded of them, and to feel the deep love and happiness again that I once felt. Sending Love 🙏💖
