This coach is fantastic. He reminds me of my high school cross country coach. That coach taught me much about running and life, and I still think about things she’s told me to do when I run now, 5 years later. I have done a lot of sports that are all very different, but none of them have coaches quite like cross country coaches

I've never seen a college program with... required calisthenics. I mean... they're not a bad idea but my coach (and many others I've seen) took a much more "laid off" approach toward that type of stuff. We determine our own warmup routine. We get to the workout meetup on time by ourselves. We decide how far to run before or after a workout. We decide whether to stretch or not after a run (I mean... you definitely should) and how long to stretch. We decide if that stretching includes core. It actually worked out really well, and we were extremely competitive against D1 schools much larger than us in XC (kinda hard to do the same in track... even if you win the events if the other team gets 2 and 3 you still lose... which was very often our case.) If you WANTED more direction, you could certainly ask and he would provide, but most of us were extremely happy with the freedom provided to us. I mean, it's not like we could lie about how much we ran on non-workout days. He'd find out eventually by how well (or rather, badly) you were running. Probably the best coach I ever had. Got me into the best shape of my life and I don't even remember trying that hard in the workouts. (We had times to hit, and were often told to "try to hit the times exactly." We were really ever only given leeway on the final set of 30 30s (30 second 200s with 30 seconds of rest... often a set of 6, and often multiple sets with a larger break in between.) These often boiled down to a full out sprint toward the end of the workout, which was fine because at that point a full out sprint was only 2-3 or so seconds faster. (We were tired after a hard workout full of much longer repeats.... miles... 1200s, 1ks, etc.)

did you ever run in high temperatures?
@soilgrasswaterair5 жыл бұрын
Nils Petras yes. And guys don’t workout in hot pants and sports tops so the logic isn’t supporting the heat thing. It’s simply a silly thing just like women’s attire in tennis is a short skirt while the men wear knee length shorts.
@nilsp94265 жыл бұрын

by now all these girls would have graduated, so you were right none of them have turned pro or gone to the big leagues, but hey at least they have their degrees from Harvard.
