As a kid without access to cable television from 1987 on things like the Main Event were really the only way I watched wrestling at all. It wasn't until the creation of Smackdown that I was even able to start watching wrestling more regularly... which I have to say is also the reason I've enjoyed watching the Monday Night Wars videos of yours.

Born '75, and I was in an adolescent psych ward after a failed suicide attempt when this aired. (Things are better now, thanks to all the things they taught me there.) EVERYONE in the ward watched this on a single tv. Patients. Staff. It didn't matter. Andre vs. Hogan was just that huge. It's the only time I've ever seen anything like it. So that estimated viewing audience of 30 million? There's no way they're counting all the people who wouldn't normally be gathered around a tv together. For once, the WWE is probably undercounting the number of fans they once had, hanging on every move.

I just remember going to the kitchen to get a Twinkie.... then as I opened up the wrapper I watched Andre pin Hogan. I was so stunned to see Hogan lose that the Twinkie lost it's taste. It's not like a Twinkie tastes good anyways. Unfortunately the folks in my city weren't big wrestling fans so not very many people knew about it when I got back to school that Monday..... it must have been a Pacific Northwest thing I guess. Another silly thing I remember is The Main Event is where the IC Championship Belt without the red WWF logo debuted, and this is where the Winged Eagle World Championship belt debuted. Also, it looked like they changed the Tag belts because I remember the old Tag Belts were a blend of Gold and Silver and the Tag Belts were mostly Gold.

Man your channel is so fun! SNME was such an awesome show, I remember getting to stay up late to watch SNME, getting into the theme music and intros, while being so excited to see two name wrestlers, wrestle and not jobbers. The Hogan and Giant rematch was awesome and to see the rating for the show it’s crazy to compare that to the ratings today and how Raw and AEW can’t compete. Plus who doesn’t love the winged eagle belt! Your channel definitely brings back great nostalgia. Myself I felt my strong interest in wrestling ended after Wrestlemania 19. I felt that was sort of the last era of 80s/90s wrestlers I followed and after that all wrestlers just didn’t strike a cord with me. Although I watch the occasional reunion show, it’s not the same as are larger than life heroes grow older and older each year. Your channel allows the opportunity to revisit these matches and history and that my friend is a great feeling.

9:47 "It feels like it goes on for much too long, but the faces Hogan makes..." YUP! Getting those Pythons all-powered and wankered up is all I hear now from your video on reliving the war the past 2 weeks ago or so... and now with this, seeing those faces don't help any...Yeah, I can see that crazy intensity later when one python is certainly getting "brothered" much, much more than the other side's othered... Also glad you mentioned "Jake the Snake" as the guy was one of my favs back in the day and knowing what's he's been through and gone through is nothing short of incredible. Its free here on YT btw as DDP shows him (and later Scot Hall to an extent) what a real friend is and how if we all had friends like DDP, the world would be a better place... Loved watching this stuff before heading out on a FRI or SAT to cruise the town as a teenager. There just wasn't anyone out hardly until the Main Events were done and then guys and gals were out in droves on Broadway and the usual meeting spots and hang outs to discuss... what else? Cars, girls, and pro-wrestling... I loved it!!

I remember the Monday after this. I was in high-school every one was talking about Hogan losing the belt even the people who said wrestling was fake. It was a huge shock to see Hogan lose even though we knew it was a show.

I watched it back then. It was huge. You are absolutely right about how exciting Saturday Night's Main Event was. Even though I'm Canadian, I was allowed to stay up to watch. The new belt coming out was cool. The Main Event was huge.

When I was a kid, my mother used to take me and my brother to a local video store on Friday nights to rent vhs movies for the weekend. I used to rent the Coliseum WWF videos back in the day, this channel always made me remembers those days.

Your statement about McMahon caring more about the Entertainment side than Wrestling side couldn't be more than true. It's a statement that couldn't be more true in the modern Era

I love the fact that the most watched television wrestling show emanated from my hometown. I didn't know anything about this going into it so it's nice to learn about history, especially since it hits so close to home for me.

One of my primary memories of the Main Even Shows was that they finished later than my normal bed time would have been, but because it was special and it was wrestling I was allowed to stay up until the end of them!

Nothing was much more 80's than the WWF* during that time. If you were a kid in the 80's one of the things you were, was an WWF fan. It was a requirement as a boy at least. Some of my favorite childhood memories is playing pro wrestling with my friends. Pretending the bed was the ring and picking which wrestler to pretend to be.

One of the most memorable moments as a wrestling fan. It was a happy birthday for me on the 5th of that February since I was growing tired of Hogan for quite a while up to that point. The way that played out was absolutely brilliant. As an 11 year old I had no idea there were 2 Hebner's. They nailed it with my demo

I absolutely love everything that you do. I look forward each week to any new content you upload. This episode was especially good. Suggestion? I’d love to see an episode on the NWA’s inaugural Clash of the Champions from March 27, 1988. It’s an event that holds special memories in my heart as a young pro wrestling fan.

The Clash was like UFC and Wrestlemania combined for hardcore wrestling fans who couldn't afford PPV, back then. They did everything possible to make it feel like a real sporting event.
