David, I just saw this but the reason why your voice effects weren't so great was because under the "FX ON" switch to turn them on and off, there is a level adjuster for those effects on how much it would adjust your voice. Turn it all the way up and I am sure you will have a great time!

I used a smaller version (only 2 mic pres) of this mixer for several years, until it got caught in the rain on an outdoor gig and went belly up. The only thing I didn't like so much about it was the preamps were crazy sensitive to input gain and would distort badly the second the peak light turned on, ie, not much headroom....I replaced it with a small Mackie mixer that's quite a bit more forgiving in this area. The Yamaha does sound really good as long as you are careful not to hit the pres too hard though....

I got this mixer about 6 months ago and it’s great. I use it and also a focusrite 2i2 interface combined into garage band and I can’t fault it for the price. Like you I was also using the Behringer mixer prior. Not yo much wrong with those either but the Yamaha is definitely a step up. Cheers.

Hey there. I'm thinking about buying one of these because my profx8v2 shot out. Can you tell me please, with this mixer can I hear audio from my other tracks and record just my vocals? The profxv3 you can't. Whatever goes in, also goes out to the DAW. I like being able to monitor the audio on the computer, and be able to either have it record in a mix at the same time, or monitor the other tracks and only record my mic. Many thanks for your time.

I bought one. Use it for a Live Duo, it’s more than I need, No problems with it, It doesn’t have the standard electrical cord,it has a proprietary elec cord only made for this machine that has a screw in lock to it, at first I was like uh oh, no spare…but I have learned to like it..

from what i'm gathering, the fx knob on each channel is what's used to enable (and modify the intensity) of the effects, but does that knob also redirect the channel to the fx output for a potential mix minus setup? and do the effects get applied to just the fx send output or simultaneously to both that and the main output? I want to be able to send my mic audio to two separate devices so I was wondering if I could use the mic channel's fx knob to send my mic audio to both the main mix and the fx send, being able to apply sound effects to my voice to both devices would be a bonus if it works like that.

Great review. Definitely looking at the MG12U or MG16U. The Behringers are definitely cheaper and seem to have more features but Yamaha's quality reputation and the fact that MG mixers seem very well designed and although it has less features--the ones they have a genuinely usable--sold it for me.

I use a double (R/L)- 1/4 inch speaker out adaptor from mixer to a headphone/spliter adaptor for a tablet to a headphone type c adapter for my tablet. Then i record live singing mix from mixer with tablet 4k camera beautiful sound and video recording with a tablet.so yes you can do a professionally sounding/looking podcast or singing video using your phone/tablet with this mixer

Awesome review! With regards to only being able to have one channel output through the USB interface to your DAW (it certainly works on Logic Pro X, but i assume it would work with other DAWs such as Pro Tools and Ableton etc) when you are creating your different tracks for recording, you can select input 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 depending on which channels you are using on the mixer. This then corresponds to which channel output you are recording from the mixer. So for example, if you had a vocal mic in channel 1 on your mixer, then when creating the track in your DAW you would select 'Input 1'. If you then had a guitar in channel 2 and a bass in channel 3 on your mixer you would create 2 more tracks, one set to 'Input 2' and the other set to 'Input 3'. This would then enable you to arm all the different tracks to record simultaneously and have multiple channel output from the one input device, in this case the Yamaha MG10XU. Hope this helps you or anyone else looking to do this, and like i said, awesome review. Really helpful in choosing a new desk to get. I am too myself looking to replace my USB MIDI audio interface with a usb desk. Interested in the Yamaha MG20XU as i will also be using it for gigs and live events. Cheers! :)

You are best off setting the gain levels on the channel to the recommended level not pushing them to hard and just turning up the volume of the master or your amp

For example, if I have delay on a channel 1 mic, is it going to also affect all the other channels as well? Is it also going to also cause delay on the guitar channel? Or could I have 1 mic channel with delay, one mic channel with chorus, and a clean guitar channel? Thanks.

Hi mate, I really like your review on this one, very professional. Im setting up a mini studio at home. At the mo I only have a pair of Yamaha monitors, a Mac pro (with Ableton and Pro tools) and a Allen Heath 2 channel mixer. All together is all all have (no much money available) to start with. My question is : Is it worth buying one of those and use it instead of the Allen heath mixer ? I mean does it enhance the sound quality ? If so, lemme know cos I buy it and carry on using the Allen Heath along with my pair of turntables. Thanks a lot . Serdj

This is if you want to do two things in one... For the best audio quality you are best using a Audio interface like Presonus or something. This give reasonable audio quality and its a mixer, so its good at both. if you need both. It only has one output channel aswell which is not optimal if you want to record guitar and vox for instance

Yes and no, you can't apply different fx on different channels, but you can choose which channels the effect you selected is applied to by turning the "Fx" knob.

no you just need a regular guitar input they are called (1/4 inch jack, trs, 6.3mm) so you will need 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter. Hope that helps.

This is not a good interface for the price so don't get it if you're only into home recording. Think of it as a live mixer with recording capabilities if you're in a pinch. I'm a drummer and this MG10-XU limits me to two mono mics on my kit 👎. Get it if you want to mix live sound in your rehearsals or if you want to organize a complicated setup for a live show 👍 👍. I use it for my multi-instrument setup; I send my SPD-SX, vocals plus processor, acoustic/DI straight into this mixer, already mixed how I like it (pretty good EQ for the price) and that goes straight to the sound guy via one mono XLR. It sounds great at every venue and it saves a lot of set-up time. I keep a set of headphones plugged in to the monitor output during shows and if I cant hear myself I just throw those on. If I didn't use a mixer like this on stage the sound guy would have to mix all my shit and he wouldn't know what I'm going for without hearing the record. This is great for plug-n-play if you want things to move quickly and sound great. (Practice that before you do a show tho seriously)

I have a Bose T4S mixer and a Yamaha MG10XUF. The Yamaha MG10XUF is the same as the MG10XU but has slide bars not dials at the bottom. Now I dont seem to get the same performance compared to the Bose T4S from the Yamaha. I suspect its two things. The Bose is a better product or I am not using the Yamaha correctly. I have a friend who runs a karaoke bar and he has told me the Yamaha isnt any good. Any thoughts. I use my Mixers for Karaoke and hook the yamaha up to a Bose Compact PA system?

It's not rocket science but quite simple, really: if you record stereo and include that stereo track in your video, you get stereo. Interestingly, KZbinrs with poor recording setups might get stereo sound from the built-in microphones of their camera or smartphone, whereas more seasoned KZbinrs use a single microphone and record in mono, but with otherwise better sound quality (unless they use poor noise reduction, in which case it can sound worse). I like recording in stereo myself, so I have been using handheld field recorders for my videos, first a Zoom 4Hn and now the Sony PCM D-100.

I use this mixer for Dj'ing. I use my laptop through the USB channel. I had to stop that though because every now and then I would get some really annoying interference. Sounded like aliens were landing or something. Almost like someone scratching a record. I'm unsure whether it's a problem with the mixer or whether it's a soundcard conflict with my laptop. Had any issues like this?

Hi, just a quick question that I can't find the answer in any video I have seen online. Do the Yamaha MG10XU act as a sound card ?. So that I can use it too here sound come out of my computer. And by that, I mean that when I hit the play on a sound file I will hear the sound that will come by the USB cable to the mixer and I will have a knob to control the level of this sound and from there by the mixer, it will go to the output and to my speaker

the mixer is your sound card at that point - all outputs and controls are physical ones on the mixer, if you want to use your pc's 3.5mm jacks etc. - you would keep the integrated sound card drivers installed and it would be a seperate audio device in windows .. you could point different programs to different audio devices but honestly i wouldnt - i would uninstall all else and keep the mixer in use.

You couls use the auxiliary output or the headphone output, instead of the general stereo output Edit: nvm, only with the headphone output, the aux is from the 12 channel models and up (mg12xu - that model is a lot more versatile)

Hey sorry I have a question, is it safe to plug my small headphone amp into the phones port on the mixer board or will I need to look into getting a cable to run from the mixer board into the headphone amp? I was previously using a small headphone amp and dac for my headphones but I was planning on using the Yamaha MG10XU built in sound card. Also I was wondering if the Yamaha MG10XU provided any power to the headphones at all or if I will need to use my external headphone amp. thanks for the help

the phones port is stereo out. not sure why you would want an amp. You can blow your ears up with the volume the mixer provides. Unless you want richer character from a tube amp or something. You should be able to run the signal from the mixer to the amp to your headphones.

@@DavidJonathonMusic but if our band(4 players) whant to practice silent,it is possible to go with mixer headphone out to headphone amp (headphone amp with 4 stereo outs,for every member )..is headphone out silent nice sounding or there is some noise ,hiss?

DID YOU MEAN "USB INTERFACE" (at 6:50s) Second time thru and I realize you could not have meant MIDI INTERFACE. When you are saying there are only two channels out - divided I guess into monitor and main and headphone. Is that right? Sounds right. -BR

Hi new to this, but i am trying to record the effects into my mpc live but when i record directly from synth to my mpc live standalone and add the effects it does not record the effects im not sure what is the output on this mixer to record the effects ? Cheers

Can you hook up an Android Smartphone to the Yamaha MG10XU Mixer for the purpose of recording (with software on PC of course) a two-way phone conversation for a podcast? If the answer is yes, what would the connections be on this Mixing Board?

Why don't you just use a simple aux cable and plug it into the mixer?
