Yamaha YZF-R7. Right For You?

I just rode the new R7 on Friday. I’m about 6’2” or 6’3”, with a ~34” inseam and can confirm that my body position was right about where the 6’1” and 6’4” images would suggest… and it felt about as comfortable as it looks.

@@BikesILike It seemed like it would be a ton of fun for a guy or girl of normal size. With my height and weight of around 300 lbs (~135 kg), it was both a little cramped and underpowered. Once I got used to it, it would probably be a blast to ride, but I’d be looking at some mods to make it more comfortable, ASAP.

@@specificenergy Geeze man well of course it’s going to feel underpowered for a 300lbs man. Sport bikes seem to have a 300-400lbs weight limit. I’m sure it’d fly with my petite self at 6’2 155lbs lol

@@EVsSuck777 The struggle is real. I ride a naked that puts out right around 100 horses (~75 kW) at the wheel. Riding the R7 made me realize I use that extra 30 or so horsepower more often than I thought.

I’m 5’4, being short makes things a bit harder when looking for bikes. I do have a 29” inseam, probably close to a 30” with boots on, so I’m hoping I’ll be alright for this bike 🙏

@@Random-qt1kg absolutely not I know people who are 5'3-5'5 and they ride liter bikes you will probably need to just get comfortable with one foot down.

I'm 5ft9 and i was't able to flat foot it idk why but maybe because I did not put muchof my weight on it because it was already sold and it was a 60th Annversiry modle so the fact i'm just carful and aware of what my ass is on i did all i can to avoid damaging it and i did leg day the day before so i didn't want to drop it etheir so i sat down lightly and went into a tuck aand assed the ergos only complaint was i forgot to adjust my junk and it pressed againts the tank and i made myself look short.

I'm 5'9" and I'm considering getting an r7. Why is the footdown position for a 5'9" on r7 is different (more comfy) than the one on Aprilia RS660? Given that the seat height of R7 is slightly taller and that the seat width was not considered. Thx

I'm not sure if I'd be able to have a flat foot on the ground on the R7 like the image shows. Seat height on a Z900 is 15mm shorter and I can't flat foot it.. edit: I'm 5'9. Should be close enough though

I think it's too close to call, but it's definitely not a no. At 6'4" I wouldn't buy one sight unseen, but I think it's still worth pursuing and investigating. Definitely try and get a test ride or at least sit on the bike to see if it might be right for you. 👍

Believe me or not ! I am 5.7 and my inseam is 32 inch , barefoot .....damm! after measuring I realised I have pretty long legs ! So I don't think I will have any problem riding this bike

If you have 32 inches inseam you can flatfoot an R6…….I have 30 inches inseam and I can almost flatfoot my cbr600rr

I’m 5’5 with a inseam of 29.5 inches, but when searching the “correct” way it says you start at ur ankle and end at ur crouch area so when I did that I was at like 26.5. I want this bike as my first bike tho cause it’s a nicer sportier feel with the posture then the 650 based on reviews and weighs a bit less.

If you're between the heights shown as in your case you will get a very good idea if the motorcycle will be right for you by looking at both the 5'9" and 6'1" riders.

Getting rid of the R6 whose HP was around 115-120 to the R7 with HP of only 72 nearly cut in half is going to kill this bike in my opinion. They should of made it an inline 4 or at least a triple. The looks are great the price is going to be the best in the super sport class now only $8,999 in the USA. For the same price I get a much more comfortable bike with a TFT display with nearly the same hp and torque. We shall see how well the R7 does in its first year.

Lol you missed the point of this bike. They weren’t selling enough R6’s at 12k this bike will knock it out of the park with intermediate riders that want more power than a 300/400 but not so much you’ll get ahead of yourself. Inline fours have to be rapped out to 10k rpm before you even feel the power and by then you’re already going too fast.

@@kamprikorn planning on picking up one of these today. But it’s most definitely meant to replace the R6. The R6 is discontinued for 2022 as far as I know. Honestly it rides good and is bar far the easiest SS I’ve ridden in the city. Plenty enough power on the highway too.

It will really depend on you. I gave it a cross because it's going to be uncomfortable for most 5'3 riders when trying to reach the ground. It looks like you'll be on tip toes when at a stop light. Most riders will be uncomfortable with this but I acknowledge a limited few will find this acceptable. If you're really keen on the bike, get down to a dealer, throw a leg over the bike and try it on for size. That's the only way you'll really know. 😉

I'm 5'5 and ride a r125 whose ergonomics are similar to the r7. Lowered the seat height from 825 to 785mm, I touch with the tips but my inseam is lower than average. Bottom line: 5'3 should be ok if you lower the seat by at least 4cm. Don't expect to touch your flat foot on the ground though.
