Hi, Emily!!!!!!!!!! I dearly LOVE........... this Yoga Video, and I try to participate every day!!!!!!!!!!!! I am Disabled and Homebound with Severe Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and all that entails!!!!!!!! These Stretching Exercises, and Breath Control, are helping my incredibly stiff body, and soothing my brain............ I recommend this Video to my Friends and Family, and pray they will ENJOY it as much as I do!!!!!!! I actually PAUSE the Video when I need a little more time to do a certain pose!!!!!! I truly LOVE being able to 'control' my time while stretching my body. There are some movements that I'm unable to do as yet, but I'm hoping to become more limber as time goes on. (I used to do Intermediate Yoga, before FM 'took away so much of my life'... That was truly 'a lifetime ago'.......) Thank You SO MUCH for this Wonderful Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is of utmost importance, for people just like myself, to 'keep moving'........ Namaste

Hey Emily. I have been searching KZbin for good yoga exercises. I didn't think I would like chair yoga, but yours seems to be the best for me, as I start doing yoga. I truly enjoyed your exercises and will do them daily. I am very healthy but because I am transportation challenged right now, I can't make it to the gym. This is great! Thanks so much. Be encouraged, you are helping a lot of people.

I've been teaching chair yoga for many years and love it. I recently had someone with pretty severe dementia join the class and really appreciate this video. I don't agree with Ivan's critique. You are doing a great job! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing. I will be volunteering at an affordable housing senior center tomorrow and I was feeling nervous about what I would be able to provide in terms of modifications without all my trusty studio props. It is interesting to see so much done on just a simple chair and how ideas of movement were honored over physical strain.

Agree with Chrissy on the head movements and think some discussion regarding what they might feel contrary to helpful movements would be helpful. Love the breathwork and thank you for doing things with regards to opening up the upper body for seniors who are often hunched forward and low on oxygen!

Just a few comments. I’m a teacher and have devoted lots of time to teaching chair yoga. Lots of good stuff here, some quite creative movements and chair asana. Love the setup with the two students and the water sounds in the background. A few things bothered me, and I hope this is constructive criticism. Just a nitpick first -- a teacher once pointed out to me that “We’re gonna…” is not helpful -- nor very now-moment, if you will. More efficient to just say, “Lift your right leg,” than “We’re gonna lift…” When? Sometime today? The latter just sounds awkward, especially when it becomes a verbal tic. And there seems to be little real interaction between you and the students, it’s as if you’re reading a script and not paying attention to what they’re really doing. Why not use their names - there’s only two of them!? Why not observe their real movements instead of just saying “Excellent!” at every juncture? What about adjustments? For example, John isn’t really doing anything like eagle pose (which is a bit advanced for him anyway) - but you say “You guys are pro.” Yes positive feedback is good, but questionable when not honestly on target. You could help him further into the arm configuration. And why not look at them, really look at them, more often? Chair yoga is so wonderful for the possibilities of real exchange with the students, and here it just seems like a performance for the camera. I hope this is helpful; you have great intention and creativity. Namaste!

Ivan Nahem Hi Ivan, thank you for your feedback. Definitely agree that 'we're gonna' should be minimized in yoga teaching, thank you for pointing that out. In terms of positively congratulating students regardless of 'the pose', that is one of the principles of DementiAbility programming. Persons with dementia must be positively reinforced regardless of outcome. This video was made with the intention of being accessible to both seniors and persons with dementia. Furthermore, the second principle is to 'always demonstrate' since procedural memory is in tact in dementia where as short-term memory is not always spared. While adjusting is amazing, we would have to have a second yogi on head to adjust while the primary is demonstrating the moves. Thanks again for the engagement, always nice to hear from another yoga teacher! Hopefully our explanation on DementiAbility principles helps to clarify some of the differences you see in this yoga video versus other ones. We hope that many seniors and persons with dementia can benefit from this! Have an awesome week. -The DementiAbility Crew

I agree 100% although i know they meant well when making this video, it doesn't promote safety in the least. the teacher is not even paying attention to the students. not only is it crucial to pay attention to students of all ages, i think you need even more attention on seniors. from not watching the students to really quick movements demonstrated by the teacher i'm going to have to say this should be redone with better judgement. i don't mean to be negative, just offering constructive criticism. there needs to be modifications not just straight directions, less scripted, more attention to whats going on with your students while they are in their postures and slower movements. People in general try to do exactly what the teacher does...exactly, so when i see a really quick movement by this teacher, i know many at home are going to try and do it exactly like her and may not physically be able to. this isn't targeted to teens, and young adults, this is targeted to those who need to actually sit down to do slow gentle yoga, many who have injuries or are susceptible to injury. really unsafe video with little care for the students. just a video trying to spew out scripted info.

@@emily.elliot I also work with people with dementia and I find authenticity especially important so that they really know that what I am saying is honest ... trust is huge so positive reinforcement is wonderful but with meaning. I hope to try to use this video but the sound is really difficult to listen to and I think that our resident's may feel the same way. Thank you for the effort in providing this for those of us that have difficulty in providing good exercise in a smaller setting.

Dear DementiAblity, You are not the only one, many other you tube chair exercises are affected as well. Someone is ripping you all with the close captions. They are so messed up. Whoever typed the captions are from another countries that didn't understand American way of talking. Please contact your manager of your tube videos that CC is way off. they need to fix it thank you.. I enjoyed the exercise.
