It's funny how Jason Schreier also said that "gamer rage" won't make the industry better. I bring this up because quite honestly, great journalism, but the article does nothing for me. I already knew Anthem was shit, and that the development cycle had gone to shit. Not trying to downplay his work mind you, respect for the effort. But how is this article any different from the supposed rage-inciting, no good KZbin videos about Anthem that came before it? If you had half a brain and eyes, you didn't need any more detailed expose info to know that you should have avoided Anthem at launch. The signs were there. This article clarifies things, but if I didn't wear enough tinfoil hats, I'd say it is both a "get mad" piece AFTER the game has had time to milk as much money from the gullible, AND an attempt to paint EA as a victim worthy of sympathy. Nope. Still going to hold both EA AND Bioware accountable. With the lead up to Anthem's release, both knew what they were doing, scamming the customer with garbage.

Yeah, over the last few months, just buying "Bloodborne", "Batman: Arkham Knight", and the "Resident Evil 2" remake were enough to keep myself occupied in my spare time. That is also let alone my future plans to consider getting the PS4 "Spider-Man" game, "Doom", the fourth "God of War" game, "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice", "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild", and possibly a Nintendo Switch console (leading to some its own exclusive games like "Super Mario Odyssey" and "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate). I can safely say that, at least for myself, there are way more than enough actually good AAA games to provide satisfying entertainment. In fact I probably won't ever have enough time on my hands to play all the ones on my list, so there is absolutely no reason I would ever feel compelled to buy one of those other "TRIPELAAAY" games instead.

The original games market collapse was because of exactly this type of shit. Consumer satisfaction and trust being eroded away by greedy games makers that acted like, "We can shit in a box and sell it to these fucking idiots!" Then the "fucking idiots" said, "Nah. We're good." The only problem is that now they don't have nearly as much overhead in distribution costs like they did then. So, when they make 40 million more cartridges than what they end up selling, it bankrupts the shitty company. Now, the distribution of games digitally makes it a more favorable situation for the publishers, since it's just server time and bandwidth, but they still have multi-million dollar game developments. If people would just stop fucking pre-ordering it would be a problem fixed in no time. If the company knows they have to make a good product to produce a paycheck, then they will. If they can just show a trailer at E3 and open up the pre-order page and watch as millions in sales pour in without a game, then they can keep doing whatever they want. People have got to wise up to the scam that is pre-ordering. It is detrimental to the overall quality of games in the entire industry. Never buy a product whose quality is still in question. Otherwise, it's your own fault for getting ripped off.

There seems to be this general lack of direction in BioWare as a whole. If I recall, Andromeda was plagued with similar pre production problems until Mac Walters was called in at the 11th hour to try and turn the game around. Andromeda was in a pre production state for years with the final game we received having only been produced in the previous 12-14 months. BioWare is and has been without a rudder for a long time. Only BioWare Austin seems to have a grasp of the situation and apparently they were dismissed off as being irrelevant.

Anthem fucked the development cycle of the Andromeda and Dragon age 4 by poaching devs from those two projects. I still say EA had something to do with it, EA says single player games are dead. Then Bioware prioritizes the only multiplayer they've ever worked on to the point they pull resources from their single player moneymakers? That makes no sense to me. I really like the way you report on things Yong. I’ve been around since the MGSV days and became a fan after all the trailer analysis that you did on all the trailers. I’ve probably been watching you every day since. I like how you’re not scared to report on controversial news and your presence on the internet ultimately makes the industry better as you can singlehandedly light a fire under the ass of any developer trying to pull a fast one on consumers by spreading the word to your big audience. Keep up the good work! Sucks that most news lately has been negative but that’s the way things are right now. Seems like almost every developer these days are greedy. I look forward to seeing the next one!

That's just one of the hydra's heads, there are way to many problems to list. All covered by various gaming news youtubers. Here's some examples: The "hotfix mindset" where you can afford to screw up because you can always throw in a patch ie. games will never be fully vetted to be sold 100% complete. "Twisted interpretation of DLC" as we are all too familiar with, cutting up content or throwing in cosmetics as "DLC". Microtransactions, especially overpriced cosmetics and the worst offender of all, the rng lootboxes gambling bullshit. If you want to have a gambling aspect to the game/rng limit it to solely in game currencies. This includes free-to-play games as well. You could make the grind ceiling a little higher in free-to-play and provide *limited* convenience options for free-to-play games. As for games that you need to buy, you don't need none of that bullshit. You don't punish players when they already paid money for your game. Unnecessary raising difficulty/grind ceilings to "push" players in buying convenience by manipulating on the users' emotions. Enough said there. Especially when your target audience includes minors (and sadly, users with a mindset similar to a minor). The list probably goes on.

@Bryan_K_27435
@Bryan_K_27435 5 жыл бұрын
@@wu1ming9shi Even if it's a reputable gaming company like CDPR (or ironically in the past, said AAA game companies), one can never be too wary; *NEVER pre-order*. We should eradicate that practice from the gaming industry because of the amount of times it get's abused by us giving them the benefit of the doubt and having good faith only to be taken advantage of. Look at Metro and the upcoming Borderlands 3, although it could be the fault of the studio/publishers/higher ups, they still chose to "sell out" because it is a business at the end of the day. We understand, some studios got families to feed but there are others who are just plain greedy. There can be as much humanity involved in the process but it's a limited resource. Greed is very tempting and one can only resist so much. Nobody is a saint so let them learn the hard way if our good faith isn't enough. When we go against something it isn't usually just plain baseless hate, there're probably (many) reasons behind our actions.

I mentioned this on other channel's coverage of this but may as well mention it here. This is all history repeating itself. This happened at the beginning of the 2000s, just after the success of Baldur's Gate. At the time, the culture at Bioware was rough and had many of the elements this story brings up - the stress, the illness, the desperation, the hopelessness. Not only was the management terrible, as it is now, but the pay was also comparatively worse than most companies in the industry at the time. I had just entered the industry, working for Verant Interactive as it was merging into Sony Online Entertainment; we had a number of employees that had joined the studio from Bioware, and they all had no kind words for the company itself, even if they had kind words about their coworkers in development and the scant CS staff they had at the time. To make it clearer: almost no one wanted to work at Bioware, despite their success with Baldur's Gate. Much of the staff at that time went to other jobs if they found a place to go. It was this creative exodus that triggered Bioware to change their leadership out, and things got better. We saw the golden age of Bioware occur after these changes occurred. Pay got better, the general culture got better, and people wanted to work there again. It became a prestigious mark on one's resume within the industry, not just without. They seemed to do a lot better with things during the golden age, just before EA bought them. Since EA's involvement, they've been steadily falling back into old habits they had prior to the first creative exodus. Sadly, I think even if people in Bioware's leadership come into the wake-up call that occurred back nearly 20 years ago, there would be little they could do to make the adjustments necessary to save Bioware. It is, at the end of the day, managed by EA, and EA has a long history of snapping up a development studio so they could bleed it dry before closing it down and discarding it. Anyroad. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
