What I needed to hear. I used to do 2 meals a day and felt immensely good, then for reasons I when back to 3 meals and I haven't felt as good as before. Is mentally easier for me to eat 2 meals a day than 3. Thank you Susan. ;D

I have been doing BLE for almost four years. For me, the portions are too big and I break it up into four meals, eating early and fasting for about 14 - 15 hours between dinner and breakfast. This has been my personal, most comfortable pattern.

I’m so happy to read this comment I want to start but because of my sleeved stomach I can’t have more than six ounces at a time so I must make at least 5 meals even though adding up the amounts would be less than the required amount my biggest struggle is stop eating at night when I feel the hungriest even if it is mental hunger

I'm down 6 pounds and I started less than 7 days ago. (I know it's from cutting out the sugar)The idea of 12 to 14 hour fasting is intriguing. Thank you Susan for this way of eating. I read the book years ago and just recently realized I didn't need Keto or Paleo or intermittent fasting I needed/had my Bright Lines!

This is so helpful because I'm literally not hungry at all until closer to 11:00 a.m. Trying to do three meals and stop by 7:00 p.m. (I do not like sleeping with a full stomach) is so difficult. Thank you for this.

Being a long time night shift work nurse now retired, my sleep/awake cycle is a bit wonky and the three meals became a problem. I was eating breakfast at 3pm/lunch at 6pm/dinner at 11pm. I go to bed around 2 or 3am. So I am experimenting the 2 meal plan for a week and see how it works out.And prefer my carb at night as it helps me sleep. Thanks Susan!!

I don’t think the 2 meals inherently cause food chatter, changing back and forth between two and three meals which can feel like an exception is what kicks up the thoughts. I’d say she addresses that part way through. I only do 2 meals for health reasons and BLE is still very successful.

Autophagy doesn't kick significantly kick in until about 18 hours of not eating. But having an overnight fast of 12 to 14 hours has great value in order to give the small intestines time to clean up ("Migrating Motor Comple") .... In addition, it seems to help to tame insulin levels. Spacing meals at least 4 hours apart is advantageous for the same reasons. But as to the longest possible overnight fast: If someone feels really horrible if she/he has a long overnight fast, in the big picture, it can be better to have a meal closer to bedtime (Dr. Joy often discusses this a lot).

I love eating two large Bright Line meals a day. I love to have meditation, a bit of organic coffee with plain (measured) oat milk and then exercise in the morning.

I'm starting tomorrow and was concerned because of my work schedule. I work 2 days & then 2 nights, 12 hour shifts. On my first day off I get off at 6am, sleep until approximately 12 or 1pm so I've slept through breakfast. the 2 mean a day option will work for me on this one day. on the flip side I'm going to have to break my breakfast into 2 meals on the first night shift because I wake up by 7am, nap from 1-4 and then work from 6p-6a. I plan to have an egg or 4 oz of yogurt when I wake up initially to get me through until work starts. I'll then eat my '2nd breakfast' before I leave for work at 5p. The 'lunch' & 'dinner' will be while I'm at work. The key to making this work will be to make it work for my schedule.

This is really working for me as I wasn't having an appetite for dinner. I am still working with the plan and am enjoying it so much. I love the flexibility as I figure out how I want the meals to go on a consistent basis. I love our food!

I like 2 meals and occasionally I have to eat a banana or nuts between the two. My job starts at a weird time and I have to pick up a kid at a certain time. I'd never get him on time if I stopped and ate lunch. I like a big dinner as well. I just make a list of all the food for the day and put it into 2 meals and a snack.

So is there no "rule" with BLE around greater insulin spikes with eating fruit or grains for dinner? My thinking was that BLE restricts these foods during dinner because it is the last meal of the day therefore wanting insulin to dissipate sooner. Because of your comment of thinking about incorporating your grain for dinner because you weren't going to eat breakfast was interesting to me because it doesn't appear as if my thinking was correct at all. That would mean as long as you are consistent and forming automaticity, then you are all good to have fruit/grain with either of the two meals.

Excellent point. For many people, carbohydrate-rich meals induce relaxation, making it more sensible for them to have the grain at dinner / meal 2. For some people, not having fruit at night helps them to kick a dessert-habit - for others, it doesn't matter.

Í haver been doing BLE for 6 weeks, lost 7 kg and I feel portion size is too much for me now especially at breakfast. I'm only 1 m 48 height. Shall I start reducing quantities?
