I'm laughing at all these clowns in these comments bitching that "oh it's only fast in a straight line." Who cares? You don't need to build a car that can win LeMans and also crack off 6.5 seconds in the quarter! Make something you like, if you want to make an old truck do 9s, make an old truck do 9s. If you want to make a Miata defeat 911s at autocrosses, do that! Every car doesn't have to be built to dominate every field. This truck is fucking cool. That's what matters. :)

I totally agree with him on the low buck thing. you don't need to swap out factory suspension for expensive multi-link. on a mopar for example. the factory leaf/torsion bars will take you a long way. in my pictures(don't remember which album its in) you'll find a 69 dodge dart gts in grey primer. we had a 340/727, cast iron block/heads. it ran on pump gas, daily driver. it didn't even have hei ignition. it was a factory dual point ignition. factory suspension except for the traction bars. full interior. full steel body. we ran on street tires. it was all motor, absolutely no turbo/SC or nitrous. at that time nitrous was viewed as cheating. nobody respected anyone that used nitrous. most of us viewed nitrous as something guys who couldn't build an engine used. anyway, we were turning 10.3@137mph on street tires in the early 1980s. people nowadays don't believe it, because they cant do it. it CAN be done, but you need to be willing to stop thinking you know everything and LISTEN to those "old guys". there's all kinds of little tips and tricks that add up.

You don't need money to build a fast car, but you do need to spend a little if you actually want it to hold together. Anyone can put a big turbo on a four cylinder for relatively cheap, and it will be fast.....right up to the point where it blows the connecting rods out of the block. My point is that any engine you modify has to be able to take the additional hp, and depending upon what engine you have, you might need to spend some money to make it more bulletproof.

From what i have found over the years the initial Range rover Evoque and the Ford explorer look to share a similar platform. Looks even more so now as only distinctive looking Land Rover is the LR4/Discovery 4 depending what part of the world your in. That is based off of i think still the older mid 2000's ford explorer's. Also interesting fact, the LR3 shared its platform with the 02-06 explorer platform. We had a explorer and were renting a LR3 and they were nearly identical on many many levels including the engine.

+Mark Gibbons I'd like to quote NickWayne100 who commented this in reply to the guy you're talking about, "Is this guy serious? Who buys headers for the way they look? Who buys any performance part for how it looks under the hood. We buy it because it produces results." I would say there is a spectrum when it comes to appearance. Dirt cheap junkyard parts that work and make power but are incredibly filthy or grimy is at one end, super shiny and pretty yet sometimes expensive and even ineffective parts are at the other. It all seems to be about balance. Parts that aren't rusted or nasty, but clean, and nothing too showy, just have everything look neat and tidy and new. And let the car do the rest.

And it’s cool to be flashy. The thing issue is that the industry mostly caters to flashy. There’s not as much support or information on budget building and tuning. There’s less people promoting the idea of making it work more than making it look good. I’m somewhere in between. I want power, but I want reliable. I want functionality but I do want it to look good. I don’t want to waste loads of money on things I don’t need.

Is this computer tuning? Can I dial my '04 Explorer without buying a crapload of aftermarket 4.6 Mustgang parts? It's Eddie Bauer, 4.6, RWD. I think stock power is 238-ish. I thought about putting a Ford Racing intake manifold and a Flowmaster system, but not a "Filter Charger" kit. I would like to get some moderate power and torque gains, especially low-end power, but would like to have gains across the power-band.

3 minutes in, going to stop there and agree with him. I like fast cars, and bikes, and I did once (many years ago) race gokarts. Then I went to circuit racing 600 superstock bikes, and my roadbike was a ZX14. You can build a shockingly fast car or bike for not a whole lot of money, particularly if your contest involves no corners. But that may or may not be legal. It may or may not keep running if there's any rain. It may still be running without a rebuild after a year, and it may score pussy like a Ferrari LaFerrari but probably won't. You want a toy that's going to tick all the boxes, and that will be a bit less than 2 meelion thanx... Don't have that? Shame, me neither... So we compromise. What can I afford, and what can I do without?

+Yaop117 Considering a 1200+bhp turbod GTR or Lambo on drag radials with 4wd won't get into the 7's. I watched the video and that car is built, serious work went into it, it's not something an average home builder could manage. Not sure if he's just trying to be modest or what.

+Matthew Sharpe There is a lot of work into these cars but outside of the roll cage, rear end narrowing and the turbo setup an average backyard mechanic could do it.

Mr. Mix Pretty much my point then as that's everything that's going to make it expensive for someone like me who is all thumbs & can't fabricate worth a damn and would have to pay someone else a lot of money to do all of that properly if I didn't want to die horribly half way down the strip :-) I guess that's why the pricey bot-ons are so popular though, it doesn't take much skill, patience or time to slap them on and go. It's an amazing achievement regardless - wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the video.

Matthew Sharpe This is why you make friends that love cars but have a bit more skill than you haha. You could mock up the entire turbo setup and have someone finish weld it.

What is up with the speedometer? Looks like it has some aftermarket unit plunked in front of the stock one or something?

So the 8 second Mustang on DOT tires and pump gas that you didn't spend hardly any money on had a stock LS1 intake manifold? Hmm...

Sloppy mechanics is a fitting name! Cool swap but they sure could have taken a little more care with some stuff. It works and that's great but there looks to be a lot of half assed sloppy shit that would be easy to clean up and do properly.
