A yoga teacher came to a few of my classes and that's what she said. And I laughed and said, "Yeah, well, keep trying it and you might discover there's something to it."
Eventually she got it and even went on to do my teacher training program.
Okay so here's the thing - there is no one right way to breathe! It depends on the functional purpose.
In this video I show you 2 very different ways to teach 3- Part Breath

I love the way you explain things. I have never taught 3 part breath during asana practice. I find it a beneficial way of breathing to teach people how all the parts of the respiratory system work and to help people get away from upper chest breathing and to calm the nervous system. However, during asana practice you need to use the core so I focus more on using the lower ribcage. I will practice your method and see how it feels. Thank you.

Video kept dropping out, so missed a lot of what you said. I think this is quite similar to some breathwork I use for core & pelvic floor strengthening. I hadn't thought to use it in all asana work. I agree it certainly does strengthen your PF & core, and gives us so much better control.

Thank you for this. I have a quick question: When we begin the exhale, for instance, are we engaging the pelvic floor, then the lower abdominal muscles, etc. then compressing the chest at the end of the exhalation? Or is it more of an awareness?
