This process has never failed me. Purchase decisions are made quickly in the fitting room. If I am not immediately impressed enough to say, yeeessss, in the first 30secs, it goes back on the hanger. No tugging, tucking, what ifs, or adjusting allowed to make a garment "work".

@jdkjosephine Totally! That's what I'd always tell the ladies when I worked retail. If you are looking at yourself with that "judging", "sideways" "iffy" glance in the mirror, or "trying" to make it work...OFF! On the other hand...women KNOW when they immediately LOVE the way they look in something and seem joyous looking at themselves, almost giddy, lol...buy those. My mom, the expert shopper with fantastic taste, always said to me "if you have to think that hard about it...." off. Good rules of thumb!

I have two square stacking laundey baskets, one labelled 'larger', the other 'smaller'. I use them for my jeans/pants. If I put something on and it's a bit too tight, it goes into the 'smaller' basket. And if those jeans are too loose, they go in the 'larger' basket. When my weight fluctuates, I just file/dig into the appropriate basket.

I am slim and petite. When vanity sizing began, if I found anything at all to fit me, I purchased that in every colour. My style is classic and J. Crew occasionally carries my size of 000 Petite. I do like solids with the occasional small print. Vintage shoes have my size 4B and so does a company in the UK. Everything made in the USA is for short people who are fat, Plus sized people, Tall slim people, or average sized people who are a bit heavy. Shoes start at size 6. 7,8, are popular sizes as well as wide widths. I have a friend who is 5'll inches and slim. Hard for her to find pants long enough, shoes in size 10.5 or 11. Fashion, including Luxury fashion, caters to the masses, no exceptions.

I made that same rule when I started living on my own after 25 years of marriage: not buying something now just because it's cheap and it fills up an empty space until I can afford what I want. If I wouldn't pay full price for it, right now, in the condition it's in, I'm not buying it. If it's not a "hell YES," it's a "hell no." Result? I am now surrounded only by things I love, that love me back.

Multicolor exception is classic layering pieces like tank tops. Different colors can be layered under each other or under jackets, sweaters, dresses; and the different colors create a whole new feeling outfit just from the contrast or harmony of the color. And tanks can be tucked in or loose and belted. I am with you on print mistakes, but I still love to have a few. My test is "Do I wear the print or does the print wear me?". Bold stripes and geometrics can be too distracting on me but fluid watercolor effects can make me look striking. A nice camo or animal print can be, well, camouflaging of my lumps and bumps or my lunch or the wet spot where I tried to wash out a spill or splash. Hasn't everyone chosen a "special" dinner outfit in anticipation of unruly but very delicious spaghetti? On the other hand, I am very surprised at how often I reached for printed pants first in the last year. And I seem to wear all my 3/4 sleeve tops first right now for elbow coverage and keeping my sleeves out of the dish water. When I am home, I seem to be washing something in the sink every 35 minutes, but I still want to look good. A fun video might be reviewing the styles of characters in TV series. Who is your "wannabe.". Mine is Laura Petrie from the Dick Van Dyke series. Second place is Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. Prints that "read," as more of an overall texture are safer but sometimes I don't want to be safe. Prints have a way of expressing my mood that just cannot be achieved with solids.

I was a buyer for a boutique during the cold shoulder trend. We felt it was overdone already the first time we saw it at the trade shows. We bought one style of it, once. Sold none. Sale rack pretty quick. The End. Personally, I felt the same for my own wardrobe...I just felt, however this happened, by the time it was ALL over the place at the "it" trend...it felt already "over", to me. I never bought one. I also never bought one "shacket." Wasn't a fan of the look, but also, just over done and I knew was going to be quick to exit. I'd much prefer a cute, stylish "fall" (since shackets seem to be mostly fall styles) jacket or blazer or even cardigan. I don't need to look like a lumber jack. But yea, I don't buy into any of the immediately overdone trends. Quick in, Saturated market, quick out. Not a sensible way to spend your money...unless you LOVE it...then buy one or two.

I ended up buying it in every colour, then when they also came out with 3/4 length sleeve I did the same. I wore them constantly at work and they went with everything. Now, 15 years later, I am semi retired and am STILL wearing these basic tops, layered under various jackets and sweaters. I have gotten more than my money's worth from these garments.

Flocculating sizes is a real thing, so glad you addressed this. I just lost 40lbs in the last 6 months and have had to purchase new clothing that actually fits me. I've been guiltily of nearly everyone of these spending faux pas and you are spot on to avoid these traps. I love classic dressing and don't buy into "trend spending" very often. After declutching my closet and eliminating things that I no longer like, my spending habits were a real eye opener for me. I donated all the new (now to big) tanks from last summer which still had tags on them 6 months later. I've always been picky about what I wear, but today I am far more educated and cautious about buying for my body type, keeping a capsule wardrobe, and having just a few fun pieces to choose from on those special days when I'm feeling lighthearted. Thanks for for all you do to always bring us relevant content! Warm wishes from sunny SoCal ~ Dawna

This is the drawback to modern clothes. They treat people as static mannequins instead of living breathing organisms that fluctuate (sometimes throughout the day, e.g. food belly). Spandex is the modern solution to getting clothes to fit a range of weights, but as we all know, just because we can fit into that spandex garment doesn’t mean it actually looks good at that stretched out stage. Historical clothes were designed around a woman’s fluctuating body. One example is the 18th century skirt. The ties in the front and back allowed for the skirt to fit (and look good) a very wide range of waist sizes. There is a version of that skirt that has been adapted to look modern, but it’s a pattern, so sewing skills are required. I think it was called the coquette skirt (or something like that).

When it comes to my weight fluctuating. I buy pants one size larger and just wear a belt when it's too big. Also, this gives you more flexibility during the day - especially if you eat a bigger meal! Right before this video popped up on autoplay, I was going through my closet and regretting some cheap blouses I purchased from Old Navy, Kohl’s, etc. You know the ones made of either rayon or thin cotton, that wrinkle super badly after one wash? Now they’re in the donate bag!

Sometimes Old Navy does have some high quality fabrics, like some of their jeans. Also, this year they have a high quality T shirt line called Vintage T Shirt. I disagree about the sale clothes, at least for me. I never buy clothes unless they ARE on sale. Last year I fell in love with a jacket at a big name department store and it was 97.00. There is no way I was going to ;ay that so I passed but I kept looking on their website and two months later it showed up on their website for 27.00. I bought two, a blue denim and a washed charcoal color and I've work those jackets more than any other jackets or coats in my closet. I DO know about buying things you regret and like most of us, over the years have made quite a few mistakes. I made a pact with myself about 6 years ago, if it's not on sale, if it does not fit correctly, if I don't love it, it's NOT coming home with me. I WILL change buttons if needed. I wear only silver jewelry so if I love something with wood or gold buttons, I'll change them.

There is so much help to get online on KZbin for free, from ppl with actual experience who went through similar traumas or ailments and I have gotten so much from their advice and expertise that some seriously saved my life. Also there are great support groups online or on Facebook, and no life therapist can beat that. Basically I wish I'd not be so pressured to go the 'acceptable, traditional' route or else how would you heal and able to grow... rather the many therapist I saw throughout many years actually added to my trauma and prevented healing and moving on. The one you missed, don't go buy a new wardrobe because your life has changed. Becoming a stay at home mom, retiring, major job change. Ease into it.

It's crazy how that 8 to 10lbs on me is the difference in a size! I had been feeling so stuffed in my clothes for a year but now I'm down l8ke 4lbs and they fit better. Another 4lbs and they will fit perfect. 2 more after that and they will l9ok too big.

Great video! I know exactly what you mean! I bought a emerald green dress in 2018 with a little flower patterns on it and slight peek a boo shoulders. I loved it! got tons of compliments and now I can't seem to wear it again so I avoid allot of patterns now and go for the solid colors

Do you have an effective way to lable folded jeans in your closet. I like to fold jeans, but finding the cut and legnth i want that day makes a mess of the pile. Even if i pull my outfit the night before, it's more time consuming than i would like. Another great time saver would be purse inserts that make changing to a different purse faster. I miss out on using cute purses if i am running out of time.

Anna!! Do you have any basic camisoles you recommend? Or do you have a video where you recommend some? I would love to find some durable white and ivory camis! (non spaghetti straps)

Whenever in my life I have been on a diet and after I lost all the weight ...I each time went on a fashion shopping spree...cause I felt great!...but each time I would naturally set into what I think now is my natural weight...but I would waste so much money on clothes that I could not wear anymore. This is another reason why that I like the over sized trend...I can get clothes that are a bit bigger but still look great..even if I go up or down 10 pounds

For clothes that don't fit, I give myself three years. If I haven't been able to wear the piece in three years, I get rid of it. Any more time, and it risks being out of date or it gets "storage stink". Any less, I might feel regret and create a feedback loop of insecurity and fear of letting go.

Prints are a hard one for me because sometimes they wow me and I want to buy, but then I have to really think about what I will wear it with and how long will I like it for. Awe, and we all love Mr. Rogers. But yeah, he kind of had a boring wardrobe lol

My newt absession is a cashmere sweaters and vests. I found so many very afordable French and Italian designers on Vinted. They are way better than a mainstream cashmere. Now I have collection of. But how to stop? I really do not need so many….

Are you wearing all of them and getting use out of them? If so, I wouldn't say there is anything wrong.. it's when it becomes the same item basically in 7 different colors I think you risk getting in a style rut ❤️❤️

SOLID video topic! I got on the designer RTW train a couple of years ago and the quality just isn't that impressive! I've been enjoying Express now and it's more my style, quality and fit. Also, when I moved to Oahu, I bought a lot of cheap floral dresses off Amazon that have been donated ALREADY. I look so cringe in most florals! Can you do a video on Cool Girl Chic, I think that's more my style.

😊 I'm guilty of purchasing because the item is such a good deal. Sometimes I have regretted the purchase. Mainly on shoes. I really, really dislike buying shoes.
