I hate it when people tell me I can just eat everything in moderation, because that is the “right” way to eat. Fine, moderation for me is 20 carbs a day.

After I lost my weight I heard this all the time! Some family is still at it and I have found myself getting defensive. I lost 150 lbs but being 125lbs at 5"4 is not anorexic!! I finally had just get firm and say I'm the healthiest I've ever been, thank you for being concerned but I'm FINE. I've maintained for over 15 years and I still get this negativity!

This is my family. My mom's birthday was in Aug & she decided to have carry-out Maggiano's at her house. They wanted me to pick it up! Lasagna & ravioli & spaghetti! My sister was like "I got you an extra salad!" ..Ugh! I guilted my brother into picking it up, saying my diabetes doesn't care that it's mom's birthday! I'm not trying to get my leg amputated or go blind or die at 66 like my dad! My boyfriend took me to Texas Roadhouse for steak & broccoli & I went to mom's after. We're in our late 40's, early 50's btw! Annoying!

Yup. When I got to a healthy weight a few years back (not on keto, but still) all my old friends, colleagues, and even some family members accused me of being anorexic. They had never seen me thin in my life, so it looked too small to them. It took me 2 years, but no one noticed till I was a size small. Now that they've seen me gain it all back, and I'm losing it again (on keto) they're congratulating me and supporting me. They've seen how I've struggled being overweight and now they want to see me succeed long term!

This happened to me just a couple weeks ago. We were out to dinner with friends that we've known for 7 years, she says, " Are you still doing your diet, I thought you might be over it! I said this is not a diet, this is the way I will eat... forever! This is the way I eat now! I proceeded to order Fajitas without rice, beans and tortillas..I gave those to my hubby and he ordered alacart. No problem!

I tell them that my blood sugar is to high. That tends to stop them in their tracks right quick. I'm not being dishonest because I can show them my blood sugar monitor, but what really gets to me is family dinners at my in-laws. Carb heavy meals with high starch vegetables, followed by ice cream, chocolate sauce, and cake. I do my best to stick with the high protein items, and completely skip dessert in those situations. With the holidays around the corner, I've got to be even more slective and disciplined with my food choices to maintain my life style. I'm half way to my goals at 11 months out. I expect it will take me another year to reach the other half, but I want the changes to last the rest of my life.

Absolutely still hearing this from people even after almost 4 years of being on a ketogenic way of eating. This especially happens most often at my job. Every time they want to celebrate anything, it involves food, most often junk food at that. They don’t even consider any healthier options for others which is really sad, instead they just make remarks about “oh you can just have one bite or a little bit won’t hurt you.” It’s just so frustrating that some people close to us aren’t supportive

My mother is the worst. 'Can't you eat this?' or 'This little bit won't kill you.' She is so focused on what I eat and don't eat that it makes me reluctant to visit her. I've tried explaining the addiction component but she doesn't get it. Her house is always full of baked goods, so at least it makes me feel powerful to avoid it when I've been there.

I’ve learned that at work, I just tell them the truth. I’m not eating those cupcakes because I have to get my health back, and even one indulgence can make me go back to my old ways. Now as to losing and having people that know you say you can stop losing, my mom did that. She wasn’t use to seeing me thinner, so when I got just under 200, she said that was enough. I had to explain that I was still overweight. Oh to be under 200 again! I had to start all over after being off keto for 7 years 😕 After finding you two just shy of two month ago, I’m heading back to those smaller numbers and better health .

My husband is the only person that is supportive. People always say you can have one peace of pizza it wouldn't hurt you. Or one time I want out to dinner with my friend and she said you should have some pasta treat yourself it's a special day. Number one I didn't even say that i wanted pasta and number two I didn't want to game 10 pounds from eating bad one day. I ended up having a hamburger with no bun. Everyone thinks you can have it once in a while and that's not the case. That's how I was when I started keto and I realized you can't. It's all or nothing. Even my 4 year trys to feed my her chips lol 😆. By the way I follow you guys on both KZbin channels and Facebook. And so far it's been a year and I have lost a little over 50 pounds. I'm not done yet I'm still trying to lose more weight.

We make people feel badly about not doing what they know THEY should be doing with their health. Sometimes the best defense is evoking compassion. Eye contact: "I KNOW that you love me more than your cheesecake, and the effects that it will have on my health." There is no holiday that gives an alcoholic license to have one drink. Same with carbs. Being convinced that what I'm doing is right, it makes turning down the crap easy... 'Keto' foods sometimes...whole different challenge... Good stuff ladies, as usual!

Y'all hit the nail on the head. I have one friend who "tried keto once" (and had her cholesterol spike so high her doctors urged her to get off it) who is constantly on my case about how she's worried I've developed an eating disorder. Whenever we go out she almost bullies or pressures me with things like "oh common, you need to have some carbs" or "I'm worried about your cholesterol." When we do pick a place (that she's not super happy about because the other restaurants would mean I couldn't eat) she gives off uncomfortable body language or makes faces. Based on the way she has commented about my ketogenic journey I suspect she didn't fully understand or bothered to adjust and balance her ratios. My lipid panels have been great, my healthy cholesterol is way above normal while my bad is below average. My blood pressure is great and my BPM is within a healthy range. In fact my weight loss has stalled for nearly a year because of making exceptions for friends who want to go out to celebrate various things. No one seems to understand how difficult it is to get back into ketosis or how much weight I fluctuate between "cheat days" and getting back into ketosis.

I have found the “maybe later” to work really well. I’ve also been even a perpetrator of the “is everything ok? Was your weight loss intentional?” Mostly because through COVID and telework I didn’t see some coworkers in person in like 12-18 mos and one guy lost a significant amount of weight and also had a ton of dr appts I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t ill and I even said after, “I hope I didn’t offend, you look great, I just want to make sure you’re ok!” I’ve also made it known I’m doing keto and IF, so as I lose weight people will likely understand it’s not illness. Thanks for your content! This type of your content is my favorite! ❤ - Cathy

Back in the day, I had a bet with my ex husband and I was so embarrassed to tell him how much I weighed and I showed him a pair of jeans which at the time were size 16 and I was unable to fit in them. I started the Cambridge diet on January first and we were invited to a wedding and I stuck to my guns and had only water the whole night. He kept asking me to go and fix him a plate of food and I said No. I kept exercising and doing my diet and lost 56 pounds. Not only did I reached my goal, but was able to fit into those jeans by Valentine’s Day and won the bet. People that knew me didn’t recognize me when they saw me and were like you look so skinny. Are you sick? This was when AIDS was happening. At the end of the day I kept my weight loss until I was diagnosed with Asthma and had to take prednisone and gained weight. I love your channel and your honesty. Keep up the great work you do. DO YOU!!!!

Thank you for all the ideas. I will tell people (true) that sugar makes me sick, nauseous. I have also been sabotaged. I, 5’5” went from 200 lbs to 130 lbs. a man at church that I only knew to say hi to, was about 15 years older with adult son with family. They could all benefit from reducing more than I had. He actually told me that my face didn’t look good and I had lost too much weight. 😳 we did not have that relationship. I told him that I had been very overweight, that he was used to my face that way. That my face now was what I had always looked like (ie bone structure) and he just needed to get used to this look. This was twelve years ago. Still have the face I was happy to have back.

I enjoy your show very much. I'm 66 and had terrible digestive issues, I forced myself to watch all the science videos about keto & I appreciated the information very much. When I just want to relax & enjoy myself & discover new recipes & personal perceptions of others on the Keto journey. I watch you both. Your chemistry is fun to be around. I must have missed the announcement of the new channel & saw your message on KZbin Home Page this morning. I started Keto in July & I've lost 22 pounds but that wasn't the most important part of why I started keto , I love your Chaffles they are the Very Best IMO. I added one little tweek for a sour dough flavor I use 1 1/2 tablespoon egg whites & added 1/2 teaspoon of Apple Cidar Vinega. It adds a little something I associate with sour dough, (OMG I miss San Franscio Sour Dough Bread) it assists my deficient stomach acid also. My Doctor is very pleased with me. . I love that you are passionate about what you do, it's what makes you outstanding, I pretend the Debbie Downers are the odd balls & carry on with my passions. When my neighbor starts with disparaging remarks I give him a chaffle & that shuts him up. Thanks for all you contribute. I'm now subscribed & the bell is rung.

I love you 2 ladies. You inspire me daily. I share your videos and knowledge with my bestie that is on keto along with me. We were counting carbs in Aldi's yesterday while quoting you 2 sisters along the way. "Keto twins said that Aldi has keto tortilla wraps. Keto twins say that Aldi has this and that." .lol It was really fun and also educational while grocery shopping. I don't care that there are inconsiderate food pushers. I will say what is on my mind with little regard to their feelings. I will say "no thank you, I am on keto". If they keep pushing, I say I do 50 carbs a day and that there piece of sugar is my whole day of carbs and I will gladly pass thank you". If they keep persisting it's on. I will give them the long explanation of keto of how and why and everything in-between.

My bf and I are both started keto 3 months ago. I am more strict, counting calories, tracking macros and staying under 20 net carbs. He is very muscular, into bodybuilding, doesn't count anything but tries to keep below about 50 carbs. If he decides to "cheat" he will pressure me to cheat as well. There's nothing malicious in it he just loves food and wants to share it with me. Because of his muscle mass and workouts he can get away with it. Because of my history of losing and gaining, and losing and gaining, I don't even want to find out if I can. Slippery slope and all...

Shortie here... hope this gives you a chuckle... I've gone from obese 3 to obese bmi and people are surprised I still have a way to go to get to 'overweight'. I think as for society in general, we might just be really bad at spacial intelligence... i mean they make cars that can park themselves for a reason... in saying that, I'm so lucky that my husband loved me fat but also loves that I'm trying to get healthy, so we can have hopefully longer together. We have had lots of disordered eating in our family a few members have struggled with EDs. One thing I try and do is compliment other stuff around the people I love, ie their smile, kindness etc and ask others to do that for me and to not zero in on my weight being what defines me. Not everyone is that lucky to have a supportive partner/friends/family. I've had ibs for years and went through a different other diet phase too, so got used to bringing food I could eat either as a side or the 'share' with people I was visiting. Eventually, people started asking what they could serve that I can eat. Weight Watchers had an idea (yeesh that was a hard diet) ... 3 bites... it may work if you can give up after 3 and are sure you can get back to ketosis the next day. It's usually not enough gluten to 'assault my ibs', not too many carbs to escalate my BGLs for long and I only have a small number of family members that I'll do it for. Usually, we just make sure there's something low-carb for those who want it whenever we celebrate or have gatherings. Having to be low carb for a medical diagnosis, I think does help with perception... that person is 'sick' and needs blah... as opposed to omg here comes 'insert diet here' fanatic they're going to try to convert me. But there are lots of conditions to pick from... we have family history of ... so this MO wants me to try ... diet. Changes the emphasis slightly, gives you a random other 'devil'. Chronic diseases could include: PCOS, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and there would be more. But then be very careful not to go down a hypochondria route either.

To all who read this, if you click on the twins' Amazon links above, ANYTHING you purchase after entering through that link pays them a small amount so it's a nice thing to do. I will try to remember to come here first and then use your link. I have to say, I do not take shit off anyone, no one dares say a contrary word to me because I give it back to them double, ha!!, but I get so mad over people's snipey remarks to others. I have encountered one friend who is an RN who has said a lot of remarks that are alarmist. "I know someone on Keto who is in kidney failure right now!" That kind of thing. I think she means well but she eats chips and salsa in front of me at the table and complains about her weight so I really want to say, "well you obviously don't have the answer to how to get healthy so why are you criticizing Keto?" Something like that. I hold my tongue because I love her. She thinks I've lost too much weight too quickly probably but it's so easy on Keto!

Thanks, girls....sometimes we think we're alone in this fight, but I see that all of us have the same issues....for me, it's to say 'no' to my mom's food... I've been lived far from her for twenty five years... so, it's not easy when she tries to make me happy cooking sweet things. But... sometimes it's exactly when we realize we need to be strong.

I'm a grown woman and no one can tell me what to eat or not. First things doctors say are you trying to lose weight. I realize that in some sickness it will make you loose weight without being a diet but I just say I'm eating Keto. Most are for it. A couple nurses were the wet blankets. I don't even say I'm on a diet my lifestyle is called Keto. Not a diet but a lifestyle. Stick to your beliefs and tell the others that says it will hurt you to just let me do me and you do you.

I love all your content! Thank you so much, I am so tired of listening to the medical people talk about keto. You girls are down to earth and tell it like it is…love it! My husband started keto and lost 30 pounds. I tried it hesitantly, I am addicted to sugar but I am down to a good weight. My husband is the one that sabotaging me! He says”it’s okay to have a cheat day.” NO! 🤪🤦🏻‍♀️

I had someone, who is a type 1 diabetic, tell me that keto was bad and they bet my cholesterol was super high. I didn’t know what to say to that because I was totally shocked to hear that coming from them. Not to mention that they kept saying that all I ate was meat and cheese then laughed at me. I just ignored it but I’m still shocked about what they said and how they said it.

When I worked many people brought goodies in to share. I would take what they fixed but say…I am saving this to take home. I never told them I was taking home to my husband. He loved that he got the goodies. If asked the next day, I would say I shared with my husband and it was delicious. People who are overweight often feel threatened when you are losing and they aren’t. So they say things to make you feel guilty that you aren’t joining them in eating. If we went out for lunch at work, I would find the menu online and decide what I could eat.

💜🥰🤩🤗 I was told I would fail by my entire family, they were right (temporarily), but I have not given up- I am the ONLY person in my life on keto and it's sooo hard to watch them eat things you know are delicious but toxic at the same time! My husband gave me the "it makes me feel bad when I want something you can't eat" or "I want_____ (fill in the blank), but noooo, you can't have any, so never mind". 🤬🤬🤬🤬 However there are now keto dishes he requests, so - progress!

I learned not to tell people what you’re doing. Any kind of lifestyle or eating plan. People want you to don well but not better than them. When I had lymphedema at my highest weight and had to make health changes like stat…. Some people tried arguing me out of getting healthier. Imagine. I pretty much said eff off in my head. Real friends support you.

I believe people do sabotage or attempt too subconsciously. I found NOT telling people I'm dieting or eating differently was KEY to NOT stop the invitations.. etc.. You can literally find a meal anywhere that will suit you if you know what to eat.. YOU need to look up menus before going to a restaurant and order with joy so people don't think oh you are a PAIN now..

I have gotten comfortable telling would be saboteurs that I have a very strict diet that I can’t deviate from it to protect my health. I’m not willing to go buy new belts since I’ve cut 3” Off my current belts length. I’ve never been skinny, but now I’m back to my high school waist size in my mid 50’s. All bloodwork is good or improving. I’ve been Keto/Carnivore for a full year now and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. I’m just waiting on the next great steak, burger, or Bacon and egg based meal.

Great advice! One of your videos you shared how sick you got after eating a high carb or sugar meal. I think it was your mom's stuffing. And how bad your stomach hurt. Well...now I use that as an excuse...when people say you can have just one, or it won't hurt you. I usually say...well I haven't had carbs or sugar for almost 2 years and one piece will make me so sick I won't be able to have a good time. It usually works. But also...that helps keep me on track too...cause it's usually a holiday or bday or special event I want to enjoy and I know eating something I'm not used too will make me feel sick.. and who wants to feel sick!

The health related thing can totally be genuine -- my aunt had struggled with her weight for decades, and was so excited that the small steps she'd been taking for years were finally working . . . although there were some bowel changes . . . I saw her at the holidays and she looked so different that *I* wanted to feed her, even having tried to diet my whole life and understanding the struggle. As you might have guessed, it was bowel cancer, she waited way too long to look into it (in part because FINALLY her body was getting societal approval, yay! -eyeroll-) and she died pretty quickly. If random delivery guy had recently experienced that, it's pretty natural (and kind, frankly) that he would react to the new you with concern. I totally agree, many times people are reacting to you from their own 'baggage' or internal experience. Try to forgive them and keep on trucking along is my attitude.

I think some of these are them feeling insecure in themselves and they're just projecting onto you or other people they are jealous of because they want to be where you are but don't want to put in the work so they tear you down so you are back on their level so they want you to be as bad or worse than them so they're basically relying on you to make them feel better instead of putting in the work to make themselves be better and feel better about themselves.

I had a friend call me who is my diet buddy. She wanted me to go off the diet for dinner she invited my husband and I to. She had even made chocolate cake and chicken casserole that is filled with pasta! Besides inviting us 2 hours before dinner when we had plans she acted very offended at me! I have lost 9 lbs since 3 weeks of starting the plan and wonder what she was thinking! Sabotage!!!

Your comment about asking your partner to be supportive-and if they are not, then one need to rethink who that person is. Yeah, not just about keto. He doesn’t support me in anything. I’m starting keto due to early diabetes, big belly, and high blood pressure. I’ve been scared to death during the pandemic because I have that trifecta of death. I finally got serious about losing the belly and getting my sugars under control. He won’t even wear a mask for me during the pandemic even though I am considered high risk because of the trifecta. I needed to hear that. He’s out.

I have a bit of a spare tyre and was doing my morning exercise a light walk and a clean up. A guy unhappy with his weight tried to stop me from clearing teh dishwasher. The previous time hed tried to stop me walking despite the fact that my bone density was being badly affected. I now wont eat. I am anorexic and didnt need that. Currently have a six pack and trying to eat at all but today its not happening. I am 33 kilo. I was 33 kilo before gained only fat anf looked unsightly and my vones ended up extremely brittle from sedentary lifestyle. Now im fit and when id weight restored properly i was still small and had good lats. My bones were fine. Found this triggering as hell. Im now in my room avoiding him and finished clean up.

It's horrible how unsupportive friends and family can be. If a person is really pushy with food, I've gone so far as to quietly whisper "That gives me the runs" , "I'm having some stomach issues" or something to that effect. It embarrasses the person and they back off. 😂

I feel like people who complain about someone else's diet is just feeling guilty about their own eating. And one excuse that might work for when you are offered something you don't want, you can just say "oh sorry, my body can't process that kind of thing" and that way it's not like you are rejecting their food & making them feel embarrassed or offended if it's something you can't help. Like, would they be pushing cake & donuts on someone who's diabetic,or get offended if the diabetic person said no?!
