I've noticed this quite a bit too. It's pretty freaky going back into our comments and finding extensive conversations with blatantly inappropriate messages and other inane content. Of course we get different types of spam comments too, with some people scripting requests and even botting the likes on their requests (always posted at exactly the same time, with the same likes, same comment, etc.). I only hope KZbin finds a way to deal with this that doesn't accidentally punish legit users. What a mess.

The most depressing thing about this and I say it from someone with coding experience is just how easy it is to create one of these bots. Once you write the framework you can change and edit it to tailor any youtubers video you want and script it to run autonomously without intervention. Links can be slipped through the algorithmn with a url shortener and it's annoyingly hard to block them as whilst the more complex bots can be detected and neutralised the most primitive ones can be done with a simple auto-macro tool to copy and paste.

Linus Tech Tips showcased a seemingly pretty solid solution to this issue, better than KZbin's one at least. Worth checking out for any creator with this problem imo. It's some third party algorithm that just finds all the copy & pasted comments, bot names and other bullcrap that it can with variable degrees of acuity, and gives the user some options with what to do with them, from just deleting it all to reporting & blocking them and such.

That *is* true, but it's very inefficient for large KZbinrs and the API limits make it mostly impossible to delete everything! Commenters can use the tool to mass report spam comments but this is something KZbin could easily code a fix for.

KZbin deletes my comments and messing with conversations I’m having, keeps showing 0 comments before I click to expand comments, and temporarily muted me for “targeting and bullying” when me and someone had been arguing back and forth, equally yet I got muted, and I only said the comment that got me muted which wasn’t even that bad, because he tried starting up the argument again after it ended. If it happens two more times my account I’ve had for years is deleted, and they didn’t even email me or give me any response about it.

I have a notification save app on my phone so I it can save those few second notifications and when I click on them I get "this comment is unavailable" message. The sad thing is their solution to combat bots and spam will probably be worse. Something I noticed is that there's way more shadowbanning now to the point where it feels like it's wrongfully suppressing dissent. In some cases it's the channel owner or mods that shadowban people but other times, it's youtube bots and there's clearly something wrong with their bots. Like they obviously have some bots trying to detect offensive comments, harassment/bullying and it doesn't work because AI can't detect sarcasm or understand context well enough.
