You have a perfect Welsh accent. I am a Welshman. Many of the people in the comments are unfamiliar with the Welsh accent and actually many people think the Welsh accent sounds like the Indian accent. English people who can't do a Welsh impression often do an Indian accent.

Practice tricky sounds, like TH and so on 5. Group words similar hand + band + land.... 6. Find someone that you want to sound like, imitate 7 Try to find out why you're not sound like native speakers --> correct it 8. Always check on dictionary the word 9. Listening really carefully, even more than speaking 10. Don't spend much money for accent, learn on youtube

I think she said because in the UK there are many accents. Like Gordie, Cockney, Scouse, etc. She has a brit accent, but specifically a welsh accent.
@raymondporter20943 жыл бұрын
@@jac85almeida I am British, living in North Yorkshire but my parents were both Welsh. The accent shown by Ysis in her video is how you would expect a well-educated native speaker, a middle-class (which means something different in the UK to what it may mean in the USA) young lady to sound. In other words she uses what we would call "Received Pronunciation" (RP) with a gentle Welsh lilt. Very pleasant on the ear. Nobody in the UK would think of her as a foreign national. (She'd be a great spy!!). RP is sometimes referred to as BBC English or Oxford English which is the way English would have been pronounced** by a. Newsreader on national TV, a teacher, a professor at University etc. In the last few decades, regional.accents have become more "acceptable" in the UK, in a moderated or gentle way. Regional broadcasting companies use people who have a gentle regional accent but would hardly ever use someone with a heavy regional accent. If someone used a heavy/thick accent from Birmingham/Glasgow/Liverpool/Newcastle then many people from outside those local areas might have problems understanding what was being said. If you rely on being understood, for example a lawyer in court, a pilot trying to understand instructions from Flight Control, you really need to understand what is said and to be understood by others. The problem with RP is that it was perceived as a "class indicator". People with Geordie, Welsh, Scottish etc accents might be just as well educated, successful or wealthy as somebody using RP but might not have been PERCEIVED as such. But most people who DO use RP still retain some slight lilt, a slight indicator of the region in the UK in which they either grew up or learned to speak English. The thing is that, wherever you are in the UK and abroad, if you speak RP, English people will understand you in a way which might not be the case of you spoke with a thick/broad/heavy accent such as Geordie, Brum, Glasgow etc. People often used to say that the "best" accented English was from people in the Aberdeen area of Scotland. ** Fanously, in the 2nd World War, the BBC used a newsreader called Wilfred Pickles who spoke with a Yorkshire accent (not a VERY heavy one, but an accent which was clearly a Yorkshire accent). That was because it was felt foreigners (eg a German station broadcasting propaganda in English) would find it difficult to feign a Yorkshire accent and also because someone speaking in that accent was thought to have "credibility". Even now, you will see occasional newspaper articles about the hierarchy of regional accents in the UK as some are considered more prestigious or its users more trustworthy than others. That is becoming an old-fashioned way of looking at these issues. But people's attitudes about these things are not necessarily logical.

I'd just like to say that I think your accent is fab! Considering you've only been in the UK for 7 years you've done wonders! But what's funny reading these posts, are that some people are saying you don't have a British accent!! WHAT?! I think many people fail to understand just how diverse the UK/Britain is when it comes to accents. Britain/UK (Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland) has well over 300 accents and dialects between them! Hey folks! We don't all live in London......we don't all speak like the Queen and the Royal family (or EastEnders/Coronation street!) and we don't all drink tea!! Keep up the good work Ysis Lorenna because you sound great to me, a British native who has Welsh relatives and friends, but was born and raised in the county of Dorset, England....now there's a "British" accent that would flumux those "nay sayers"! Lol!

If your man helped you along he should be proud of himself as well. I will say that to crack the accent so beautifully and understand all the different things that come with learning a language and then trying to speak it without sounding like a foreigner is something i have never seen before. I would bet anything that you have a high i.Q. I could never even learn a different language let alone crack the way to speak it like an expert. I will stop the compliments now haha. Which I realized that many English men or women do throughout my life ! You talk a lot and this is not a very British thing 😀 so you lost your Brazilian accent but still your way of make conversation is like a Latin person. I appreciate a lot your videos which I think are fabulous. My main problem is that I don't use enough my English even I've been living in UK for about 5 years because we speak Italian at home and I don't find many english people to have a long conversation easily. I'm attending a beauty course in a college but still people socialise just a little. I think in countries like Spain, Italy or Cuba where I come from is easier learning the language because people talk to you more than in UK and they are less polite when need to correct you when you make mistakes. I always ask my English friends to correct me but they never do it.

Hi,the tips you shared are very practical and helpful. I will recommend this to my students. Earlier on I was searching for a good video/course series on Pronunciation tips for British English but found more for American English whereas in my country, we orientate more towards British English . I like what you said about creating your own British English environment and also finding an accent inspiration. Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. Please create more videos. I am an ESL teacher from Malaysia and I find your videos very helpful. God Bless.

Sam Baffled, She's not Indian. How the fuck can she acquire an Indian accent without ever been to India? It's NOT a polished Indian accent. Anyone who's lived in both India and in one of the multicultural boroughs of London knows that it doesn't even sound 1% Indian.

Lol, how can she have an Indian accent when she never been to Indian. You assume she has an Indian because of her skin tone. If you had never seen her before and she spoke to you on the phone, there is no way you will be saying she is Indian.

Me sinto reconfortada. Ótimo vídeo! Lots of love from Minas Gerais ❤️

Hi Ysis, It's really good to know your English learning path because it is really similar to mine, but the other way around. I went to a British school of English and all the media I would read/listen would be British, so I ~naturally~ ended up developing a British accent. Not so natural because I would always care a lot about how I sound since the very beginning and would make a lot of effort to sound as correct as possible haha What happened was that I went for an academic exchange program last year in the United States and my English accent got all messed up. Americans would say I have a lot of British in my accent, and Brits would say I sound American haha I am back to Brazil now and the idea of losing fluency really terrifies me haha I think I also feel more comfortable speaking English, but that's actually not because I can express myself better (which I don't think I can), but because I just find it pleasant to speak a different language and make my brain work on that. I am really curious to hear your Portuguese! You just got a new subscriber!! :D

Amei seu vídeo, era realmente o que eu estava procurando, porque eu acho o sotaque britânico muito lindo, parece que tudo soa mais elegante, mas meu professores falavam com sotaque americano. O melhor é que eu consegui entender tudo o que vc falou. ❤❤
