Honda is an excellent character animator, the transformation sequences he did for Kill la Kill are amazing

Yep, Takeshi Honda designed the Nishi-Ogikubo characters and made many original drawings. I hope that in the future the Studio Khara will produce another Animator Expo.

Nishi-Ogikubo is where you can really compare his style to the other famous realist veterans (Inoue and Okiura in particular). It's more dynamic and he doesn't worry much about expression overruling his linework, as his drawings still look consistently believable in form. No wonder why Okiura calls him a master!

Honda's skills are so notorious that Inoue and Iso also call him a "Master"

@@AnotherSakuga Satoshi Kon too! I think he even corrected himself when "mistakenly" saying "Honda" in the Millenium Actress behind the scenes interview.

I suppose that is due to the training of animators decades ago, according to Inoue and Yoshinari, animators were required to draw fast and draw well, plus many had to be able to draw the key animation of full episodes of some program. Honda seems to be part of the realistic school of Takashi Nakamura, in which the most important thing is to move the characters in a natural way, beyond effects and other additions, which is no longer something that is seen in the training of the novice animators

All the names of the series are in the description, I have also added the option of subtitles in English and Japanese with the names of all the series. You can go back or forward frame by frame Frame Advance: Press the " . " Key / Rewind frame: Press the " , " key Remember, animation is not made to pause as animation is made up of the entire sequence of drawings that create the illusion of movement, so there is no point in evaluating the "quality" of animation based on an individual drawing. Even so, I highlight the option to move forward and back frame because it is always interesting to see the animator's work in each particular drawing, in addition to helping a lot to understand how his work works.

I know you would copy paste this on every vid, but it’s ironic to put it on a Honda mad since his drawings are good in every frame
@AnotherSakuga9 ай бұрын
I like to add this copy paste because there is a sector that prefers to take into account individual drawings to define the "quality of animation" and I want to think that I can make some kind of contribution if someone reads this and begins to consider the flow/movement of the drawings. But you're right, Honda, Inoue, Okiura, Yoshinari and other animators maintain an incredibly high standard in which the individual drawings are excellent and the movement too.
