I love this! You got to university, to be trained in being a good corporate employee. Throughout my corporate careers, I had my own business (it was an exit strategy) I never had a job or gig that lasted longer than 18 months. I always got bored, and whilst I often enjoyed the company of the people there, I never really felt fulfilled. I also found problems with every job I was in, as I climbed the ladder, only to get to the top and realise that the view wasn't really worth the effort. We choose to give over power of futures and fulfilment, in exchange for a "safe" salary. But it really isn't actually safe, is it?

Totally agree about less Tax! We moved from Singapore to the UAE & now Saudi because of expat perks and zero income tax. Makes a huge difference to net savings. It’s been 10 years & we are enjoying every minute of it.

As an American, I'll never understand why people come here for a "better life." This is a capitalist country above everything else, so if your sole purpose for moving here is to make a lot of money, then I guess you'll be happy if you manage to find success. However, the quality of life here simply doesn't compare to that in other developed countries. Now with Trump in office, you'll truly see America for what it is. It's the land of opportunity for the rich, but not for anyone else. Also, I'm not sure where you got your figures on health insurance and rent. A one-bedroom apartment in Florida is not easy to find. The average rent is over $1,800 near major cities. If you live far from Miami, in a lesser-known area, you might find a one-bedroom for that price, but it won't be in a nice neighborhood. Health insurance is extremely expensive, as are homeowner and car insurance. I hope everything works out for you, but I'd be very worried living in a toxic red state like Florida and being in the country on a visa during Trump's presidency. I don't think you understand what's coming in January. Be careful and stay safe out there.

That's how much I'm actually paying for insurance....and appreciate your concerns. Everyone experiences wherever you go and that's absolutely okay! 🙏💗

Just as a note to folks thinking about coming to the US, speaking as someone who has lived outside the country and has lived here for a while. Health insurance can be a huge cost for folks in the US and puts people into debt, unless you can get it through your employer. But most people will get laid off at some point (I’ve been laid off three times) and lose their health insurance. Masshealth in Massachusetts is usually what people can tap into if they don’t have insurance which is pretty good but other states don’t have that same option for folks because republicans have blocked that option. A lot of republicans in Florida. I could say more issues of concern in the US, as I mentioned about gun violence being a huge issue in this country in other comments. I personally witnessed two people killed by gun violence and my cousin was shot in the head and almost killed. But hopefully you won’t deal with gun violence first hand! Some people live here and don’t experience gun violence. Hence why we still don’t have stricter gun laws because people become complacent very easily in the US. I’m making the opposite move ironically and will be moving to London next year. Love the culture and love it that I feel safe there. Good luck here in the states. Sorry to be negative, but I feel I owe it to people to be honest as an American here. I think entrepreneurship is a wonderful thing, but I would’ve explored some place else. Just being honest :)

I'll be 34 this coming December and my mind for the past months aren't much of a good companion. You see I had written this letter to myself when I was 24 and I'll be opening it on my birthday. What's keeping me down is I know I haven't accomplished much of I've written there. Yet. Thank you so much Poppy for the reminder and the boost, I badly needed this. Please keep doing the work you do, more success and power to you. Rooting for all of us. 🙏🏼💪🏻

Hi! Welcome to Florida! I just wanted to point out that in Florida we have sales tax (the same as VAT) and a 1200 apartment would be available but in a very bad area or a smaller town. I pay 712 a pay period for health insurance (thats 8544) a year plus i get a bill in the mail for most services. Guns very by location or state. I live in the suburbs, and we have had several shootings in our local mall. Just sharing a long time Florida residents perspective ❤
@reinventingpoppy3 күн бұрын
Yep FL has taxes too I don't know if the rates differ for each county? Brevard county where I live in 7% but not added on everything. UK VAT is 20% which I failed to mention in the video so thanks for pointing that out! ❤️

Guns are a serious issue in the United States. My cousin was almost killed last year and I witness two people killed behind my apartment by gun violence. This was all DC. People coming from abroad be wary. Things sometimes look very pretty from the outside but there are serious issues here.

@@Sgab1007 Yeah, my uncle (he lives in Tampa, FL) was shot by his employee's obsessed ex after driving her home from work b/c her car was in the shop (the BF was waiting there to kill her). They're, fortunately, both still alive, but my uncle had a ton of health issues after that. It didn't even register to me to think of the incident as gun violence because it's become so normalized.

Iam really surprised to see people still moving from europe to the US, would love a video that you go more in dept into that. I get the company view, but whe have so much rules in europe for a GOOD REASON XD its very easy to just scam people in US. dropshipping for example, is legal in US. but Illegal in the netherlands, (because its basically a scam). I would not even go to the US for a (short) holiday at this point, it just seems like a 3th world country that works out if you are rich

Average rent for a 1 bdr in Florida is $1600/month. Rent is higher than that average in Tampa and over $2000/ month in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, so really, not much different than the UK. Also, public transportation in Florida is a joke.
@justonemorestitch4 күн бұрын
Thank you for pointing this out. I live in Hillsborough county and if you don't own a car you really can't get to anything as mass transit is a nightmare..
@Sgab10073 күн бұрын
Yes public transportation is hard to depend upon in most places in the US. NYC is the only dependable one, but they’ve had issues with violence on their transit and had to bring the national guard in
@justonemorestitch3 күн бұрын
@Sgab1007 tes it can be rough on the NYC subway. I personally lived there for 6 years in the BX just off whiteplains. The dirty stations are what always got me.. like the parkchester station, for example..it never made much sense to me. Ironically, I had moved from FL to NY and was grateful for the mass transit tbh.. sometimes you don't know what you have until you don't have it

My brother and sister in law, who is Burmese, has said the same thing. Maybe not about the UK but definitely Thailand over the US. He lived over there for over three years. But salaries are better in the US. Just depends if you’re willing to sacrifice that part of your life. To each their own.

Thank you for putting out your perspective. I am from Brazil, but I live in Canada for almost 7y and now a proudly Canadian citizen. We also have public health here, which is great to have, BUT unfortunately it’s struggling hard, so I understand your point of view comparing to UK. I would love to know more about Florida. It came across my mind moving there eventually if the opportunity comes because cost of housing here in Canada is impossible to catch up.😢 I would love to know more about the fertility aspect you mentioned in another comment. How is it there and what is happening? ❤ all the best to you
