At the moment I am playing catch up with my flying hours after the slow start of summer and the illness is still slowing me down in the evenings, so the build has suffered a bit but we are getting to the end of the hight stress bits of work at work and I am starting to adapt to the medication and hav edone a few little bits on the aircraft which will be put into a catch up video soon. Pardon the build question, but would like to know your opinion on using an airless sprayer for applying varnish to the interior structure of wing assemblies. Thanks for all of your help over the years. I wouldn't be where I am without your help!
@flyingkub
@flyingkub 15 күн бұрын
No problem, always happy to help if I can. It depends on the system used but as a general rule of thumb you put less on the floor than you would with a standard spray gun and spraying gets into areas a brush struggles although it is still good to use a bush in some areas as you get with both spray systems spray shadows. If you add a bit of dye to the varnish it helps get and even coat and see what has been hit and work methodically. When spraying I do at least 3 coats but thinned down a fair amount normally 50% for the first coat so it gets into the wood. I use a high gloss vanish and it should end up satin any more than that and you have applied too much weight.

Nice flight. How many hours do you have on your F23 Hirth? What is your fuel/oil top secret recipe (mixture)? Are you running 100 octane avgas? All your videos seem like its a great motor to fly with. I have the same engine for my new build. Its a Badland 103, very similar to your plane. I am here in the USA Thanks
@flyingkub
@flyingkub 22 күн бұрын
I have nearly 250hrs behind the Hirth. I fly with MoGas, 91UL or 100LL using BlueMax 2 stroke oil at 90:1. I get very little carbon build up, not needed to do a decoke on the exhaust to date, I find the belts last 100hrs, plugs I just change at each 25hr service but that's just me. Blue Max oil costs a fortune here but is easier to get in the USA. Most of my flying is cross country, some over water, to places up to 150miles away, in one hop, so have to use the fule available there but I tend to keep the use of leaded fuel down as it reduces the life of the plugs. Thank you for watching.
