Thank you for sharing your trip with us. Loved the videos. I don't think I've ever seen Cedar Lake so calm!

I agree! I have paddled a glassy cedar in the wee hours of the morning, but certainly not like that mid day! It was a fantastic way to end a good trip. Thanks for watching

I bolted mine on rather than use clamps, as my truck is much older. I also drilled out the bolt holes on the cross pipe so I could put in Pins allowing me to easily undo and swing open, so I can drive the ATV up. I also cut the top vertical tubes to make it easier to put the truck in the garage, took about 2 inches off..

also, is there largemouth bass in manitou lake or just fassett lake. its difficult to find information about this rural bodies of water.
@SingleMaltAndMaps3 ай бұрын
We only caught lake and brook trout , plus a nice small mouth bass on manitou. Nothing on fassett but we really only fished for a bit on our way to shad on a morning paddle. I assume all of those lakes have large and small mouth bass.

great video, who would complain that much about portaging with singing and no rain? Portaging is fun and doesn't have to be that hard hahahaha
@SingleMaltAndMaps4 ай бұрын
I could not agree more… portages are the gateways to the beautiful interior. Doesn’t mean a little grumbling isn’t expected haha
@soggywilson4 ай бұрын
@@SingleMaltAndMaps haha my comment was way to negative on the complaining, if they are in pain or hungry grumbling is valid haha

Just catching up on the trip, that portage to Radiant would be like never ending. I love the idea of the sails. So did you make it to Boston Pizza? Cheers ✌️.

Spoiler … we did make it to BP, likely the best way to end a cedar trip!

It felt more like a beauty day for portaging!! Once we got the hang of the sails they made quick work of lakes though.

Love this route! We stayed on the same site in Leg Drop Bay. There's a similar and slightly better site on Phillip Lake, knowing Evan and beach sites. Maybe you guys stayed there, too. Looking forward to the next one!
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
I did notice the site on Philip lake you mentioned… and we obviously stopped for lunch on the beach. The urge to push to the beaches of Radiant was too strong, couldn’t linger on phillip too long.
@paulfroud39205 ай бұрын
Thanks for the flashbacks. I did the same (almost) route years ago, So nice to revisit it. About 3/4 of the way through the video (on Hogan), you mention "the site with the Plaque". What did you mean by that??? Thanks in advance...happy paddling...
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. On the old Jeff’s Map (version 6) the campsite on the western shore, halfway up Parks Bay has a note “There’s a memorial plaque at this campsite “. We did not check it out to confirm, so it may or may not still exist.
@natashagarber25445 ай бұрын
Shangrala is probably my least favourite campsite. I know so many love it but not me. We stayed there in 2022 and when we woke up there were cockroaches in all our gear including inside the tent poles. Yuck…never again.
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
Yeah we have had some experiences with the roaches on the island. Just need to seal up all food and hammocks are a little nicer. The view makes up for the crawlers in my opinion. Only campsite we have had this experience though

Hey Evan, sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis but glad you got to spend some valuable time with him. I love these access points. One year we traversed the Tim River and used both access points. We took a couple bicycles and a couple of the boys peddled it on Day 1 so we had to sit around for a bit. It was worth it though (says the guy that didn't bike it lol).
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
That would be a dandy of a bike ride. Some decent hills on those roads, and a few pot holes too
@davescanoeingadventures5 ай бұрын
@SingleMaltAndMaps The best part was the one bike had no brakes left, so chris had to use his shoe to stop. Lol. There wasn't much left of his shoe by the end.

how are yall filtering your water if you need to put Mio in it? or do you just prefer flavoured water?
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
We use an msr gravity filter. We don’t NEED to use mio, but prefer to add some flavour. A nice ice tea or lemonade sip after a long portage just hits different !
@soggywilson5 ай бұрын
@@SingleMaltAndMaps I totally agree, having some flavor is great. I was worried y'all were just using chemicals or steripens to treat your water. That always tastes bad.

A favourite part of the park of mine as well, I love that Crow river paddle. The fire tower lookout is such a great vantage point. The cornhole set was at the cabin last time I was there.
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
Hopefully everyone takes care of the cornhole. I assume it is just a matter of time before someone tosses it into the fire. Wading out into big crow lake on the nice sandy bottom on a hot day is now a core memory!

Yeah, we have been there a couple times now… and on this trip we decided to schedule a rest day there as well. Thankful we did,,, we found out first hand how flooded it gets during heavy rain and wind!

It's a good felling to get past the traffic at the early portages, you guy's killed unicorn hill. Looking forward to watching the rest.
@SingleMaltAndMaps5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! The trick to unicorn hill is knowing that what seems like a never ending uphill slog does have an end point, once once you reach it the rest of the way is a piece of cake in comparison. The worst of the hill is RIGHT before the top… so a little push and you are essentially home free

We talked to the girl at the office, who warned us of high volume. We were checked while unloading the boat, and again 15 minutes later during our crossing. Seemed excessive… and out of the norm at the time. After seeing the calamity at the first portage, and the size of the group off permit… it all made sense.
