The point about aims is a very satisfying answer, and I think it works in conjunction with my immediate response; why kill a born baby? The birth has happened now. Adoption is far from perfect, but that doesn't mean we should cull independent, living beings to avoid the system

only commenting because seems like you were genuinely asking for opinions and i really love your work and i made a new account and also i’m not qualified for this so feel free to disregard but it feels you’re overestimating how much you can do and how many you can reach and most important how many you can actually educate or sufficiently inform… so in simple terms yeah possibly overthinking. out of limited personal observation ive noticed that the more “in academia” people are the more things get skewed in terms of what a “general” person can or can’t understand or cares or knows about but based on your channel so far it feels like you don’t have like a huge niche? i think keeping it kind of narrow but by being thorough not to alienate people slightly more or less educated on specific topics would work best if the end goal is actual impact. i think opening it up too wide and having every video be super thorough 0-100 would be tiring for almost everyone who watches probably including people who actually started around 0. of course too narrow has its own problems but yeah i think you don’t need to make a huge change with regards to who youre making videos for / how you’re making them. if anything, like you said, i think the thing worth most attention is being more “video essay”-y and not turn people away being too academic, but also that itself is a niche and could be worth pivoting too but i think like making sure everyone understands everything from scratch is a bit over ambitious for basically anyone in the world unless again like you said you want to do the scaffolding type of videos where it’s prioritizing basic understanding to help later further understanding. or you could do a little of a everything but that probably would be tiring and possibly cause bad burn out idk thank you for the work you do and have done, take care of yourself ❤️

Can you make a separate video about our obsession with new things and originality. Like recently i have heard about people ranting or complaining about how Apple did nothing new with their products like they didn't design is NEWLY or BETTER or it doesn't have anything newly orignal and that apple is lazy and not being innovative. Which made me wonder why are we obsessed with new things this much, like what else we want our smartphone to do , is it evolutionary , cultural or capitalistic or consumerism induced, and how advertisements affect this phenomenon.

I'm with you on 99% of this. The only place I disagree with you is your characterisation of the I-focused essay as an American thing, when it's as "historical" as the Continental approach and is more of an Anglosphere thing (though there's plenty of non-Anglo philosphers who wrote in this style going all the way back to, and including, Descartes). I hope your foray into a masters is going well. It's something I've often thought about too. (BA in phil here ;) )

I think brain activity is my personal line to cross. There are disabled people born without limbs or human faces or bones or skin, which are human qualities that define us as homo sapien. But theyre born and are able to live a fair amount of time, and have their own unique and valid experiences and deserve love, which counts them as people. But a baby born without any amount of brain isnt a person. First of all, they die quickly or are already dead out the womb. A baby born with a brain but no heart, well, thats not really a pro-life/choice debate because theyre already dead. So the only vital body part that matters in identifying a person from a sack of flesh is the brain. But thats just me. Maybe one day we can transfer consciousness unto non biological vessels, but this is how things work right now.

Great video! One think I think is of note though, is that the intellectual argument for what is and isn't a person, discounts the existence of people with mental conditions which render them well below the average human capacity for thought. If these people still have a right to live, because they still feel, they can still suffer, why is it okay to make animal species that are less intelligent than ourselves suffer? Surely it is the ability to suffer, which earns any living thing the right to not be forced into suffering

I think the abortion theme is very complicated. It's a moral dilemma and deeply phylosophical, so there is no easy solution, and I think people should try to respect each other more when they disagree about it. Too often they pose the other side as being evil because they are killing babies or evil because they are controlling women's body. Hate to be the "both sides" guy, but I think there's reason in each. It's quite a challenge when such a hard dilemma becomes so important to normal life. Like if every day there was a trolley running over people.

Just want to had from a limited perspective as a western man in the dating scene, east/south east / south asian women have on average been more pleasant and open to building relationships than white women. I think a lot of guys gravitate towards dating asian women and fantasizing about them because they seem more open to date them. Perhaps its always not for the right reasons, maybe white people are being fetishized. But just interesting to see because white women seem to be increasingly picky and have higher and higher standards for the men they date.

Check out some of Dr.k’s channel, his early videos have good examples of who your talking too, id summarize his approach as, not babying your community, if they act up he typically is able to sway all the people making fun of him, idk he treats them like their competent, and is able to teach his lessons regardless of the pushback, he also had multiple tiers of academia, one for KZbin and one that is a couple hour long lectures.

Abortion being unavailable leads to infanticide. If the person didn’t want the clump of cells when it was inside of them, it being unwanted does not change upon birth. But now, what has been born actually gained the capacity to suffer, and suffer it will, because it will spend the rest of its life being unwanted, unloved, and actively resented.

As a person who views morals as subjective, I would say it's up to the woman who has an abortion whether she views it as different from murder or not. As a person who also recognizes ethical concerns of communities, whether it should be legal or not is a very difficult question to answer because people do not agree on the morality of it, and even where they do agree, this issue requires consideration of the 2nd human being involved: the mother/the vessel/the required sacrificial entity.

I don’t think you’ve understood the wizardliz and her point, to be honest. Putting your own needs first allows you to be so much more at peace with yourself, and therefore a more GENUINE and well intentioned person for others. Your every nice action is real and not rooted in obtaining validation from others. Also, there are so many times when the wizardliz has mentioned interacting with others who recognize her and it seems she is nothing but nice. Her videos allow for others so recognize their own potential and as a result, become so much more kind towards others.

I’m reminded of the final scene from Animal Farm. Where the animals look through the window of the house. See the pigs and humans sitting at the table…and they can’t tell which is which. They traded one form of oppression for another. They traded a patriarchal system of oppression for a matriarchal one: You’ve been oppressed for so long you cant possibly know what you want, and you are not responsible for your choices. You must do what we say it is okay for you to do. 🙄

Mom of three here. I also experienced 3 miscarriages. There is so little time and awareness spent during this video on the many, many things that can disrupt a pregnancy and hurt the health, future reproductive capacity and even life of the mother. Until you have been the one bleeding, having trouble walking, in severe pain- maybe spend a little more time on exactly who you want deciding your access to medical care. Politicians? Donald Trump trying to get the votes of Christian nationalists? Oh, wait. We figured this out 50 years ago, before I was even born. We want women and medical professionals making these life and death decisions. Not the government. Period.

sometjing that this kind of reminded me of is. like. being good at art. everyone says art cant be bad, its okay if its not good(sort of contradictory) blah blah blah. and i think its good to not hate your art. but what if youre painting something that is supposed to represent whats going on inside, and you arnt skilled enough to do so? what do you do then? do you just accept that you cant express yourself through art, or do you hate that its not right and work super hard to get super good at art? how does one be okay with not being able to express oneself without certain tools or being "good" at something? similar to the whole trans thing, how does a trans person be okay witj not ever being able to look like themself? is it simply based off of what view someone sees their true self in? how can we differentiate our true selves with what we like seeing ourselves as? i love my face with makeup more than without, but what is my true self? if it isnt what i love myself as, what is it? all of this said from someone who has used body neutrality to achieve body positivity. and yet still, i am always a bit scared that my true self will disgust other people if i dont work to be super pretty (even rhough i know it dosnt actually disgust people).

The message the wizard liz puts out is just building your confidence so you can automatically be nice to people. However, the are so many people that take this the wrong way and idolize her. I noticed this with many girls i know i mean they went from smiling and saying hi to me to completely ignoring me. I noticed a change in my friends behaviour like whenever i asked her for the smallest favour she'd ignore me. I mean i had helped her in so many ways but through out that time she just grew more selfish up to the point she rolls her eyes whenever i go to her of just tells me to go away. Whenever i used to tell her about any problem im facing she replied with "womp womp" or "okay and?". At that point lf our friendship i just let her be. This type of personality is no where near to being someone who has self confidence. If people take her advice the right way then they can become confident and have self love but if they take it the wring way they might end becoming selfish or rude.

Yeah, for me the biggest issue is that in no other circumstances is someone forced to use their body to keep another person alive. Like we don't force people to donate blood or organs to keep other people alive. Now one could argue the action vs inaction issue there sure. Now what if you were kidnapped and forced to be hooked up to some other person so you were basically their dialysis machine and they would die if you removed yourself. I don't think it would be fair to out that person in jail for unplugging themselves or put a doctor in jail for unplugging them. Now that's quite forced so more analogous to rape. So what if the person chose to hook up their blood to someone. They new there was a chance that they'd have to be hooked up for 9 months but most of the time it'd only be 5 to 15 minutes. Turns out it was the 9 month type and now if they unhook the other person will die. Is it still OK for them to unplug themselves?

Honestly, no matter how educated you are, because of the isolation of a video, and the one way feedback loop, people will try to find a fault in a video. It doesn’t matter if it’s because they know nothing, or everything about a topic. They’ll state their opinion, and won’t dive deeper into researching that topic, or try to understand it. This also comes with the game that is KZbin. I’ve watched videos, and have forgotten them just to go look at the comments and see that two years ago I wrote a comment, and I don’t even understand what I was really saying then. Idk, video essays are kinda hard to learn from, I don’t mind googling what a word means,or what a topic means, but it’s hard for people to actually learn something without diving into it like you do at school, or at work. Topics that have a lot of levels cannot be fully understood without prior knowledge or without going through hours of learning about it. This video essays are really just a good waste of time, like I rather watch a video essay than other more brain rotting videos. But I’m not exactly going to learn more about some thing unless it’s a completely new topic, or something I’m interested in. Idk who Kant is, will I try to learn? No. But I guess I know his name and the fact that he was a philosopher.
